1 Samuel 21

New International Version



1 [1] David went to Nob, to Ahimelek the priest. Ahimelek trembled when he met him, and asked, ‘Why are you alone? Why is no-one with you?’ 2 David answered Ahimelek the priest, ‘The king sent me on a mission and said to me, “No-one is to know anything about the mission I am sending you on.” As for my men, I have told them to meet me at a certain place. 3 Now then, what have you to hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever you can find.’ 4 But the priest answered David, ‘I don’t have any ordinary bread to hand; however, there is some consecrated bread here – provided the men have kept themselves from women.’ 5 David replied, ‘Indeed women have been kept from us, as usual whenever[2] I set out. The men’s bodies are holy even on missions that are not holy. How much more so today!’ 6 So the priest gave him the consecrated bread, since there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence that had been removed from before the Lord and replaced by hot bread on the day it was taken away. 7 Now one of Saul’s servants was there that day, detained before the Lord; he was Doeg the Edomite, Saul’s chief shepherd. 8 David asked Ahimelek, ‘Don’t you have a spear or sword here? I haven’t brought my sword or any other weapon, because the king’s mission was urgent.’ 9 The priest replied, ‘The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here; it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you want it, take it; there is no sword here but that one.’ David said, ‘There is none like it; give it to me.’ 



10 That day David fled from Saul and went to Achish king of Gath. 11 But the servants of Achish said to him, ‘Isn’t this David, the king of the land? Isn’t he the one they sing about in their dances: ‘ “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands”?’ 12 David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath. 13 So he feigned insanity in their presence; and while he was in their hands he acted like a madman, making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard. 14 Achish said to his servants, ‘Look at the man! He is insane! Why bring him to me? 15 Am I so short of madmen that you have to bring this fellow here to carry on like this in front of me? Must this man come into my house?’

1 als Jonatan zu ihm sagte: "Geh in Frieden! Was wir beide im Namen Jahwes geschworen haben, dafür sei Jahwe Zeuge zwischen uns und zwischen unseren Nachkommen." 



2 Auf seiner Flucht kam David nach Nob[1] zum Priester Ahimelech. Dieser lief ihm aufgeregt entgegen und fragte: "Warum kommst du allein? Weshalb ist niemand bei dir?" 3 David erwiderte: "Der König hat mir einen Auftrag gegeben, von dem niemand etwas erfahren darf. Die Leute habe ich an einen bestimmten Ort bestellt. 4 Aber jetzt: Hast du etwas zur Hand? Kannst du mir fünf Brotfladen geben oder was sich sonst auftreiben lässt?" 5 "Ich habe aber kein gewöhnliches Brot hier, nur heiliges Brot ist da", wandte der Priester ein. "Wenn sich deine Männer nur von Frauen ferngehalten haben!" 6 "Seit vorgestern sind wir mit keiner Frau in Berührung gekommen", sagte David. "Seit unserem Aufbruch sind auch die Waffen der Leute rein.[2] Auch wenn es nur ein gewöhnliches Unternehmen ist, so werden sie heute erst recht rein sein." (Mr 2:25) 7 Da gab der Priester ihm die heiligen Brote, die man eben vom Tisch im Heiligtum abgeräumt hatte, um frisches Brot aufzulegen. Andere Brote waren nicht da. 8 An diesem Tag hielt sich dort vor Jahwe auch ein Mann aus dem Gefolge Sauls auf. Es war der Aufseher über die Hirten Sauls, ein Edomiter. Er hieß Doëg. 9 David fragte Ahimelech: "Hast du nicht einen Speer oder ein Schwert für mich? Ich konnte meine Waffen nicht mitnehmen, weil die Sache des Königs so dringend war." 10 "Doch", sagte der Priester, "wir haben das Schwert des Philisters Goliat hier, den du im Terebinthental erschlagen hast. Es ist in einen Mantel gewickelt und liegt hinter dem Efod. Wenn du willst, kannst du es haben. Eine andere Waffe ist nicht hier." – "Gib es mir!", sagte David. "Solch ein Schwert gibt es nicht noch einmal." (1Sa 2:18) 



11 Noch am selben Tag setzte David seine Flucht fort und kam zu Achisch, dem König von Gat. 12 Doch die Hofbeamten des Achisch warnten den König: "Ist das nicht David? Er ist doch der König im Land. Er ist es doch, von dem sie in Reigentänzen singen: , Saul hat tausend Mann erschlagen, / David aber zehnmal tausend.'" 13 David nahm dieses Gerede sehr ernst und geriet in große Furcht vor Achisch, dem König von Gat. 14 Darum stellte er sich wahnsinnig und tobte, als man ihn festhalten wollte. Er kritzelte auf die Torflügel und ließ Speichel in seinen Bart laufen. 15 Da sagte Achisch zu seinen Leuten: "Ihr seht doch, dass der Mann wahnsinnig ist! Was bringt ihr ihn zu mir? 16 Gibt es hier nicht schon genug Verrückte, dass ihr mir auch den noch herbeischaffen müsst? Soll er sich doch woanders austoben, aber nicht in meinem Haus!"
