1 ثُمَّ صَلَّى يُونَانُ إِلَى الرَّبِّ إِلَهِهِ مِنْ جَوْفِ الْحُوتِ، 2 قَائِلاً: «اسْتَغَثْتُ بِالرَّبِّ فِي ضِيقِي فَاسْتَجَابَ لِي، وَمِنْ جَوْفِ الْهَاوِيَةِ ابْتَهَلْتُ فَسَمِعْتَ صَوْتِي. 3 لأَنَّكَ طَرَحْتَنِي إِلَى اللُّجَجِ الْعَمِيقَةِ فِي قَلْبِ الْبِحَارِ، فَاكْتَنَفَنِي الْغَمْرُ وَأَحَاطَتْ بِي تَيَّارَاتُكَ وَأَمْوَاجُكَ 4 فَقُلْتُ: قَدْ طُرِدْتُ مِنْ حَضْرَتِكَ، وَلَنْ أَعُودَ أَتَفَرَّسُ فِي هَيْكَلِكَ الْمُقَدَّسِ. 5 قَدْ غَمَرَتْنِي الْمِيَاهُ وَأَحْدَقَتْ بِيَ اللُّجَجُ، وَالْتَفَّ عُشْبُ الْبَحْرِ حَوْلَ رَأْسِي. 6 انْحَدَرْتُ إِلَى أُسُسِ الْجِبَالِ وَهَبَطْتُ إِلَى أَعْمَاقِ الأَرْضِ حَيْثُ أُغْلِقَتْ عَلَيَّ مَزَالِيجُهَا إِلَى الأَبَدِ. وَلَكِنَّكَ تُصْعِدُ حَيَاتِي مِنَ الْهَاوِيَةِ أَيُّهَا الرَّبُّ إِلَهِي. 7 عِنْدَمَا وَهَنَتْ نَفْسِي فِي دَاخِلِي، تَذَكَّرْتُ إِلَهِي، فَحَلَّقَتْ صَلاتِي إِلَيْكَ، إِلَى هَيْكَلِكَ الْمُقَدَّسِ. 8 إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُبَجِّلُونَ الأَصْنَامَ الْبَاطِلَةَ يَتَخَلَّوْنَ عَنْ مَصْدَرِ نِعْمَتِهِمْ. 9 أَمَّا أَنَا فَبِهُتَافِ الْحَمْدِ أَذْبَحُ لَكَ، وَمَا نَذَرْتُهُ أُوفِي بِهِ، لأَنَّ لِلرَّبِّ الْخَلاصَ». 10 فَأَمَرَ الرَّبُّ الْحُوتَ فَقَذَفَ بِيُونَانَ إِلَى الشَّاطِئِ.

1 Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish, 2 saying, “I called out to the Lord, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice. (مز 3:4; مز 118:5; مز 120:1; مرا 3:55; مرا 3:56) 3 For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me. (مز 42:7; مز 88:6) 4 Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple.’ (1مل 8:35; 1مل 8:38; مز 31:22) 5 The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head (مز 69:1; مرا 3:54) 6 at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God. 7 When my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. (2أخ 30:27) 8 Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love. (2مل 17:15; مز 31:6; إر 2:5; إر 2:13) 9 But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord!” (مز 3:8; مز 50:14; هو 14:2; عب 13:15) 10 And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.
