1Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.2And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.3And Elimelech Naomi' husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.4And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.5And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.6Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.7Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.8And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother' house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.9The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept.10And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people.11And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?12Turn again, my daughters, go your way ; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;13Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.14And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.15And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.16And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:17Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.18When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.19So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?20And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.21I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?22So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.

Damals zog ein Mann aus Bethlehem in Juda fort, um sich im Gebiet von Moab niederzulassen samt seiner Frau und seinen beiden Söhnen. (Ge 12:10; Ge 19:37; Le 26:20; Nu 22:1; Jud 2:16; Jud 17:7; Jud 19:1; Jud 21:25; 1Sa 17:12; Am 4:6; Mic 5:1)2Und der Name dieses Mannes war Elimelech, und der Name seiner Frau Naemi, seine beiden Söhne aber hießen Machlon und Kiljon; sie waren Ephratiter[1] aus Bethlehem in Juda. Und sie kamen in das Gebiet von Moab und lebten dort. (Ge 35:19; 1Sa 17:12; Mic 5:1)3Elimelech aber, Naemis Mann, starb, und sie blieb allein übrig mit ihren beiden Söhnen. (Ps 68:6; Jer 49:11)4Und diese nahmen sich moabitische Frauen; der Name der einen war Orpa, und der Name der anderen Ruth. Und sie wohnten etwa zehn Jahre dort. (De 23:3; Ezr 9:1; Ne 13:23)5Danach starben auch sie beide, Machlon und Kiljon, sodass die Frau ohne ihre beiden Söhne und ihren Mann allein übrig blieb. (Isa 54:4)6Da machte sie sich mit ihren beiden Schwiegertöchtern auf und kehrte zurück aus dem Gebiet von Moab; denn sie hatte im Gebiet von Moab gehört, dass der HERR sein Volk heimgesucht und ihm Brot gegeben habe. (Ge 50:25; Ps 102:14; Ps 132:15; Joe 2:19; Mt 6:11; Lu 1:68)7So verließ sie den Ort, wo sie gewesen war, und ihre beiden Schwiegertöchter mit ihr, und sie machten sich auf den Weg, um wieder in das Land Juda zurückzukehren. (2Ki 8:3; Ps 137:4; Pr 27:8)8Naemi aber sprach zu ihren beiden Schwiegertöchtern: Geht hin, kehrt um, jede zum Haus ihrer Mutter! Der HERR erweise euch Güte, wie ihr es an den Verstorbenen und an mir getan habt! (Jos 2:12; Ru 2:20; 2Ti 1:16)9Der HERR gebe euch, dass ihr Ruhe findet, jede im Haus ihres Mannes! Und sie küsste sie [zum Abschied]. Da erhoben sie ihre Stimmen und weinten, (Ru 3:1)10und sie sprachen zu ihr: Wir wollen mit dir zu deinem Volk gehen! (Ru 1:16)11Aber Naemi sprach: Kehrt um, meine Töchter! Warum wollt ihr mit mir gehen? Trage ich denn noch Söhne in meinem Schoß, die eure Männer werden könnten? (Ge 38:11; De 25:5)12Kehrt um, meine Töchter, und geht heim! Denn ich bin zu alt, um noch einen Mann zu heiraten. Und wenn ich auch spräche: Es ist zu hoffen, dass ich schon diese Nacht einen Mann bekomme und sogar Söhne gebäre! —13wolltet ihr deshalb warten, bis sie groß geworden sind? Wolltet ihr euch deshalb einschließen und keinen Mann heiraten? Nicht doch, meine Töchter! Denn mir ergeht es noch viel bitterer als euch, weil die Hand des HERRN gegen mich ausgestreckt ist! (Jud 2:15; 1Sa 5:6; Job 19:21; Ps 32:4; La 3:3)14Da erhoben sie ihre Stimmen und weinten noch mehr; und Orpa küsste ihre Schwiegermutter [zum Abschied]; Ruth aber hing ihr an.15Sie aber sprach: Siehe, deine Schwägerin ist umgekehrt zu ihrem Volk und zu ihren Göttern; kehre du auch um, deiner Schwägerin nach! (Nu 21:29; Jud 8:33; Jud 11:24; 2Sa 15:19; 1Ki 11:7)16Aber Ruth antwortete: Dringe nicht in mich, dass ich dich verlassen und mich von dir abwenden soll! Denn wo du hingehst, da will ich auch hingehen, und wo du bleibst, da will ich auch bleiben; dein Volk ist mein Volk, und dein Gott ist mein Gott! (Jos 24:15; 2Sa 15:21; Eze 34:30; Zec 8:23; 1Th 1:9)17Wo du stirbst, da sterbe auch ich, und dort will ich begraben werden; der HERR tue mir dies und das und noch mehr, wenn nicht der Tod allein uns scheiden soll! (De 5:16)18Als sie nun sah, dass sie sich fest vorgenommen hatte, mit ihr zu gehen, ließ sie davon ab, ihr zuzureden. (Ac 21:14)19So gingen die beiden, bis sie nach Bethlehem gelangten. Und es geschah, als sie in Bethlehem ankamen, da geriet die ganze Stadt in Bewegung ihretwegen, und man fragte: Ist das die Naemi? (Ru 1:2; Ru 2:1; Ru 4:3; Ru 4:17; Mt 2:3; Mt 21:10; Ac 17:8; Ac 21:30)20Sie aber sprach: Nennt mich nicht Naemi[2], sondern nennt mich Mara[3]; denn der Allmächtige hat es mir sehr bitter gemacht! (Ex 15:23)21Voll zog ich aus, aber leer hat mich der HERR wieder heimgebracht. Warum nennt ihr mich denn Naemi, da doch der HERR mich gedemütigt und der Allmächtige mich betrübt hat? (Ru 1:13; Ru 3:17; Job 1:12; Ps 42:6; Ps 42:12; Ps 77:2; Mr 12:3)22So kehrte Naemi zurück, und mit ihr Ruth, die Moabiterin, ihre Schwiegertochter, die sich vom Land Moab abwandte; und sie kamen am Anfang der Gerstenernte nach Bethlehem.
