1Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.2And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore;3And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?4And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.5And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.6And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.7How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?8And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.9For the people were numbered, and, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead there.10And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.11And this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.12And they found among the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.13And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them.14And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabeshgilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.15And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.16Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?17And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.18Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.19Then they said, Behold, there is a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.20Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;21And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.22And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.23And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.24And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.25In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

(Jud 20:1; Jud 20:8; Jud 20:10; 1Sa 14:24)2Und das Volk kam nach Bethel und verblieb dort bis zum Abend vor Gott; und sie erhoben ihre Stimme und weinten sehr, (Jud 20:23; Jud 20:26; 1Sa 30:4)3und sie sprachen: O HERR, du Gott Israels, warum ist das in Israel geschehen, dass heute ein Stamm von Israel fehlt? (Jer 12:1; Hab 1:13)4Am anderen Morgen aber machte sich das Volk früh auf; und sie bauten dort einen Altar und opferten Brandopfer und Friedensopfer. (Jud 20:26; 2Sa 24:25)5Und die Söhne Israels sprachen: Wer von allen Stämmen Israels ist nicht mit der Gemeinde zum HERRN heraufgekommen? Denn der große Schwur war ausgesprochen worden: Wer nicht zum HERRN nach Mizpa heraufkommt, der soll gewiss sterben! (Jud 5:23; 1Sa 11:7)6Und es reute die Söhne Israels um ihren Bruder Benjamin, und sie sprachen: Heute ist ein Stamm von Israel abgehauen worden! (Jud 21:1; Jud 21:18; 1Sa 14:28; 1Sa 14:45)8Darum fragten sie: Wer ist wohl von den Stämmen Israels nicht zum HERRN nach Mizpa heraufgekommen? Und siehe, da war niemand von Jabes in Gilead zu der Gemeinde in das Lager gekommen. (1Sa 11:1; 2Sa 2:5)9Denn als das Volk gezählt wurde, siehe, da war keiner der Bürger von Jabes in Gilead da! (1Sa 31:11)10Da sandte die Gemeinde 12 000 von den tapfersten Männern dorthin und gebot ihnen und sprach: Geht hin und schlagt mit der Schärfe des Schwertes die Bürger von Jabes in Gilead, samt den Frauen und den Kindern! (De 13:15; Jud 5:23; Jud 21:5; 1Sa 11:7)11Das aber ist der Befehl, den ihr ausführen sollt: Alles, was männlich ist, und alle Frauen, die einen Mann im Beischlaf erkannt haben, sollt ihr töten! (Nu 31:17)12Und sie fanden unter den Bürgern von Jabes in Gilead 400 Mädchen, die Jungfrauen waren, die keinen Mann im Beischlaf erkannt hatten; die brachten sie ins Lager bei Silo, das im Land Kanaan liegt. (Jud 20:47)14So kehrte Benjamin zu jener Zeit wieder zurück, und man gab ihnen die Frauen, die man von den Frauen aus Jabes in Gilead am Leben gelassen hatte; doch reichten diese nicht für sie aus. (Jud 21:6; Jud 21:17; 1Ch 13:11; 1Ch 15:13; Isa 30:13)16Und die Ältesten der Gemeinde sprachen: Was wollen wir tun, damit auch die Übriggebliebenen Frauen bekommen? Denn die Frauen sind aus Benjamin vertilgt!17Und sie sprachen: Es soll ein Erbbesitz bleiben für die Entkommenen von Benjamin, und es soll kein Stamm aus Israel vertilgt werden! (Nu 26:55; Nu 36:7)18Nun können wir ihnen aber unsere Töchter nicht zu Frauen geben; denn die Söhne Israels haben geschworen und gesagt: Verflucht sei, wer den Benjaminitern eine Frau gibt! (Jud 11:35; Jud 21:1)19Darum sprachen sie: Siehe, es ist alljährlich ein Fest des HERRN in Silo, das nördlich von Bethel liegt, östlich der Straße, die von Bethel nach Sichem hinaufführt und südlich von Lebona. (De 16:16; 1Sa 1:3)20Und sie geboten den Söhnen Benjamins und sprachen: Geht hin und lauert in den Weinbergen! (Pr 24:15; Ho 13:7)21Wenn ihr dann seht, dass die Töchter von Silo mit Reigen zum Tanz herausgehen, so kommt aus den Weinbergen hervor und nehmt euch ein jeder eine Frau von den Töchtern Silos und geht in das Land Benjamin! (Jud 11:34; 1Sa 18:6; Jer 31:4; Jer 31:13)22Und es soll geschehen, wenn ihre Väter oder ihre Brüder kommen, um mit uns zu rechten, so wollen wir zu ihnen sagen: Schenkt sie uns! Denn keiner von uns hat eine Frau gewonnen im Krieg; auch habt ihr sie ihnen nicht gegeben, sonst wärt ihr heute schuldig! (Pr 17:8; Pr 21:14; Phm 1:9)23Da machten es die Söhne Benjamins so, dass sie sich Frauen nahmen nach ihrer Zahl von den Reigentänzerinnen, die sie raubten, und sie gingen davon und kehrten wieder zu ihrem Erbteil zurück und bauten die Städte [wieder auf] und wohnten darin. (Jud 20:48)24Auch die Söhne Israels zogen zu jener Zeit von dort weg, jeder zu seinem Stamm und zu seinem Geschlecht, und sie begaben sich von dort aus jeder zu seinem Erbteil. (Jer 12:15)25Zu jener Zeit gab es keinen König in Israel; jeder tat, was recht war in seinen Augen. (Jud 17:6; Pr 16:12; Pr 20:8; Pr 20:26)
