1And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.2And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.3And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,4I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.5And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,6Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.7And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.8And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,9That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.10And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,11Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.12And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.13And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it , I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.14And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,15My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.16And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.17And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure18Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.19And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.20And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.

Sarahs Tod und Bestattung in der Höhle Machpelah
1Und Sarah wurde 127 Jahre alt; das sind die Lebensjahre Sarahs. (Ge 17:17)2Und Sarah starb in Kirjat-Arba, das ist Hebron, im Land Kanaan. Da ging Abraham hin, um zu klagen um Sarah und sie zu beweinen. (Ge 13:18; Ge 50:10; Nu 13:22; Nu 20:29; Jos 20:7; 2Sa 5:2; 2Sa 5:5; Ac 9:39)3Danach stand Abraham auf von seiner Toten und redete mit den Söhnen Hets und sprach: (Ge 10:15; Job 2:13; La 3:28)4Ich bin ein Fremdling und Einwohner ohne Bürgerrecht[1] bei euch; gebt mir ein Erbbegräbnis[2] bei euch, dass ich meine Tote von meinem Angesicht entfernt begraben kann! (Ge 17:8; 1Ch 29:15; Ps 105:12; Ac 7:5; Heb 11:13)5Da antworteten die Hetiter dem Abraham und sprachen zu ihm: (Ge 23:3)6Höre uns, mein Herr, du bist ein Fürst Gottes mitten unter uns! Begrabe deine Tote in dem besten unserer Gräber. Niemand von uns wird dir sein Grab verweigern, damit du deine Tote darin begraben kannst! (Ge 24:18; Ge 24:35; Ge 26:16; Ge 32:18)7Da stand Abraham auf und verneigte sich vor dem Volk des Landes, vor den Hetitern. (Ge 18:2; Ro 13:7; 1Pe 2:17)8Und er redete mit ihnen und sprach: Wenn es euer Wille ist, dass ich meine Tote von meinem Angesicht entfernt begrabe, so hört mich und bittet für mich Ephron, den Sohn Zohars, (1Ki 2:17; Lu 7:3)9dass er mir die Höhle Machpelah gebe, die ihm gehört und die am Ende seines Ackers liegt; um den vollen Betrag soll er sie mir zum Erbbegräbnis geben in eurer Mitte! (Ge 19:1; Ge 23:17)10Und Ephron saß mitten unter den Hetitern. Da antwortete Ephron, der Hetiter, dem Abraham vor den Söhnen Hets, vor allen, die durch das Tor seiner Stadt aus- und eingingen, und sprach: (Ge 34:20; Ge 34:24; Ru 4:1; Job 29:7)11Nein, mein Herr, sondern höre mir zu: Ich schenke dir den Acker, und die Höhle darin schenke ich dir dazu, und schenke sie dir vor meinem Volk; begrabe deine Tote! (2Sa 24:23)12Da verneigte sich Abraham vor dem Volk des Landes, (Ge 23:7)13und er redete mit Ephron vor den Ohren des Volkes des Landes und sprach: Wohlan, wenn du geneigt bist, so höre mich: Nimm von mir das Geld, das ich dir für den Acker gebe, so will ich meine Tote dort begraben. (Ru 4:1; Ru 4:9; 2Sa 24:24)14Ephron antwortete Abraham und sprach zu ihm: (Ge 23:8)15Mein Herr, höre mich: Das Feld ist 400 Schekel Silber wert; was ist das schon zwischen mir und dir? Begrabe nur deine Tote! (Ex 30:13; Eze 45:12)16Und Abraham hörte auf Ephron, und Abraham wog für Ephron so viel Geld ab, wie er vor den Ohren der Hetiter gesagt hatte, nämlich 400 Schekel Silber, das im Kauf gangbar und gültig war. (Jer 32:9)17So wurde der Acker Ephrons bei Machpelah, der Mamre gegenüberliegt, der Acker samt der Höhle, die darin ist, auch alle Bäume auf dem Acker und innerhalb aller seiner Grenzen,18dem Abraham als Eigentum bestätigt vor den Augen der Hetiter und aller, die zum Tor seiner Stadt eingingen. (Ge 12:7; Ge 23:10)19Danach begrub Abraham seine Frau Sarah in der Höhle des Ackers Machpelah, Mamre gegenüber, in Hebron, im Land Kanaan. (Ge 25:9; Ge 47:30; Ge 49:29; Ge 50:13)20So wurde der Acker und die Höhle darin dem Abraham von den Hetitern als Erbbegräbnis bestätigt. (Ge 10:15; Ex 3:8; Ex 3:17; Ex 23:23)
