Reiß die Fesseln ab!

1 Wach auf, du Stadt auf dem Berg Zion, wach auf! Sei wieder stark! Zieh dein Festkleid an, Jerusalem, du Heilige Stadt! Denn von nun an darf kein Mensch mehr durch deine Tore gehen, der nicht zu Gottes Volk gehört.^[1] 2 Steh auf und schüttle den Staub ab! Setz dich wieder auf deinen Thron, Jerusalem! Wirf die Halsfesseln ab, du Gefangene! 3 Denn so spricht der HERR: »Ich habe euch zwar als Sklaven verkauft, doch ich habe von euren Herren kein Geld verlangt. Und so sollt ihr nun auch befreit werden, ohne dass ich ein Lösegeld für euch bezahle. 4 Am Anfang kam mein Volk nach Ägypten. Es wollte friedlich dort wohnen, aber es wurde zu harter Arbeit gezwungen. Später wurde Israel dann von den Assyrern unterdrückt. 5 Und was muss ich jetzt sehen? Wieder ist mein Volk versklavt, und seine Herren haben nichts dafür bezahlt. Sie lachen hämisch über ihren guten Fang und ziehen ständig, den ganzen Tag lang, meine Ehre in den Schmutz. 6 Doch ich werde eingreifen, und mein Volk wird erkennen, wer ich bin. Sie werden merken, dass ich es war, der Herr, der zu ihnen gesprochen hat!« 7 Was für ein herrlicher Augenblick, wenn ein Bote über die Berge kommt, der eine gute Nachricht bringt!^[2] Er eilt herbei und ruft der Stadt auf dem Berg Zion zu: »Jetzt ist Friede, die Rettung ist da! Jerusalem, dein Gott herrscht als König!« 8 Schon brechen die Wächter auf der Mauer in Freudengeschrei aus; alle miteinander jubeln, denn mit eigenen Augen sehen sie, wie der HERR zum Berg Zion zurückkehrt. 9 Noch ist Jerusalem ein einziger Trümmerhaufen. Doch ihr Ruinen, singt und jubelt miteinander vor Freude! Denn der HERR tröstet sein Volk. Er befreit Jerusalem. 10 Vor den Augen aller Völker greift Gott, der Heilige, nun machtvoll ein. Die ganze Welt ist Zeuge, wie er sein Volk rettet. 11 Verlasst Babylonien, geht los! Rührt nichts Unreines an, sondern lasst das alles hinter euch! Wer die heiligen Gefäße für den Tempel des HERRN trägt, der soll sich reinigen, damit er sie nicht entweiht. 12 Ihr müsst nicht in aller Hast verschwinden! Ihr braucht Babylonien nicht als Flüchtlinge zu verlassen. Der HERR, der Gott Israels, geht euch voran, und er beschützt euch von allen Seiten.

Er trug unsere Sünde

13 So spricht der Herr: »Mein Diener wird seine Aufgabe erfüllen. Er wird eine überragende Stellung erlangen und hoch geehrt sein. 14 Viele waren entsetzt, als sie ihn sahen. Denn in der Tat: Er war völlig entstellt und kaum mehr als Mensch zu erkennen. 15 Dann aber werden viele Völker über ihn staunen,^[3] sprachlos werden die Könige dastehen. Denn vor ihren Augen geschieht etwas, wovon sie noch nie gehört haben, und sie begreifen plötzlich, was ihnen bisher unbekannt war!«

New International Reader’s Version

1 Wake up! Zion, wake up! Dress yourself with strength as if it were your clothes. Holy city of Jerusalem, put on your clothes of glory. Those who haven’t been circumcised will never enter you again. Neither will those who are ‘unclean’. 2 Get up, Jerusalem! Shake off your dust. Take your place on your throne. Captured people of Zion, remove the chains from your neck. 3 The LORD says, ‘When you were sold as slaves, no one paid anything for you. Now no one will pay any money to set you free.’ 4 The LORD and King continues, ‘Long ago my people went down to Egypt. They lived there for a while. Later, Assyria crushed them without any reason. 5 ‘Now look at what has happened to them,’ announces the LORD. ‘Once again my people have been taken away. And no one paid anything for them. Those who rule over them boast about it,’ announces the LORD. ‘All day long without stopping, people speak evil things against my name. 6 So the day will come when my people will really know the meaning of my name. They will know what kind of God I am. They will know that I told them in advance they would return to their land. They will know that it was I.’ 7 What a beautiful sight it is to see messengers coming with good news! How beautiful to see them coming down from the mountains with a message about peace! How wonderful it is when they bring the good news that we are saved! How wonderful when they say to Zion, ‘Your God rules!’ 8 Listen! Those on guard duty are shouting out the message. With their own eyes they see the LORD returning to Zion. So they shout for joy. 9 Burst into songs of joy together, you broken-down buildings in Jerusalem. The LORD has comforted his people. He has set Jerusalem free. 10 The LORD will use the power of his holy arm to save his people. All the nations will see him do it. Everyone from one end of the earth to the other will see it. 11 You who carry the objects that belong to the LORD’s temple, leave Babylon! Leave it! Get out of there! Don’t touch anything that isn’t pure and ‘clean’. Come out of Babylon and be pure. 12 But this time you won’t have to leave in a hurry. You won’t have to rush away. The LORD will go ahead of you and lead you. The God of Israel will follow behind you and guard you.

The suffering and glory of the Lord’s servant

13 The LORD says, ‘My servant will act wisely and accomplish his task. He will be highly honoured. He will be greatly respected. 14 Many people were shocked when they saw him. He was so scarred that he no longer looked like a person. His body was so twisted that he did not look like a human being anymore. 15 But many nations will be surprised when they see what he has done. Kings will be so amazed that they will not be able to say anything. They will understand things they were never told. They will know the meaning of things they never heard.’
