1 Gleich in der Frühe fassten die Hohepriester, die Ältesten und die Schriftgelehrten, also der ganze Hohe Rat, über Jesus einen Beschluss. Sie ließen ihn fesseln und abführen und lieferten ihn Pilatus aus. (Mt 27,1; Lk 22,66; Lk 23,1; Joh 18,29) 2 Pilatus fragte ihn: Bist du der König der Juden? Er antwortete ihm: Du sagst es. 3 Die Hohepriester brachten viele Anklagen gegen ihn vor. 4 Da wandte sich Pilatus wieder an ihn und fragte: Willst du denn nichts dazu sagen? Sieh doch, wie viele Anklagen sie gegen dich vorbringen. 5 Jesus aber gab keine Antwort mehr, sodass Pilatus sich wunderte. (Jes 53,7) 6 Jeweils zum Fest ließ Pilatus einen Gefangenen frei, den sie sich ausbitten durften. 7 Damals saß gerade ein Mann namens Barabbas im Gefängnis, zusammen mit anderen Aufrührern, die bei einem Aufstand einen Mord begangen hatten. 8 Die Volksmenge zog zu Pilatus hinauf und verlangte, ihnen die gleiche Gunst zu gewähren wie sonst. 9 Pilatus fragte sie: Wollt ihr, dass ich euch den König der Juden freilasse? (Apg 3,13) 10 Er merkte nämlich, dass die Hohepriester Jesus aus Neid an ihn ausgeliefert hatten. 11 Die Hohepriester aber wiegelten die Menge auf, lieber die Freilassung des Barabbas zu fordern. 12 Pilatus wandte sich von Neuem an sie und fragte: Was soll ich dann mit dem tun, den ihr den König der Juden nennt? (Joh 19,15) 13 Da schrien sie: Kreuzige ihn! 14 Pilatus entgegnete: Was hat er denn für ein Verbrechen begangen? Sie aber schrien noch lauter: Kreuzige ihn! 15 Darauf ließ Pilatus, um die Menge zufriedenzustellen, Barabbas frei. Jesus lieferte er, nachdem er ihn hatte geißeln lassen, zur Kreuzigung aus. 



16 Die Soldaten führten ihn ab, in den Hof hinein, der Prätorium heißt, und riefen die ganze Kohorte zusammen. (Mk 16,1; Joh 19,2) 17 Dann legten sie ihm einen Purpurmantel um und flochten einen Dornenkranz; den setzten sie ihm auf (Lk 23,11) 18 und grüßten ihn: Sei gegrüßt, König der Juden! 19 Sie schlugen ihm mit einem Stock auf den Kopf und spuckten ihn an, beugten die Knie und huldigten ihm. 



20 Nachdem sie so ihren Spott mit ihm getrieben hatten, nahmen sie ihm den Purpurmantel ab und zogen ihm seine eigenen Kleider wieder an. Dann führten sie Jesus hinaus, um ihn zu kreuzigen. (Mk 16,1; Lk 23,26; Joh 19,16) 21 Einen Mann, der gerade vom Feld kam, Simon von Kyrene, den Vater des Alexander und des Rufus, zwangen sie, sein Kreuz zu tragen. 22 Und sie brachten Jesus an einen Ort namens Golgota, das heißt übersetzt: Schädelhöhe. 23 Dort reichten sie ihm Wein, der mit Myrrhe gewürzt war; er aber nahm ihn nicht. (Ps 69,22) 24 Dann kreuzigten sie ihn. Sie verteilten seine Kleider, indem sie das Los über sie warfen, wer was bekommen sollte. (Ps 22,19) 25 Es war die dritte Stunde, als sie ihn kreuzigten. 26 Und eine Aufschrift gab seine Schuld an: Der König der Juden. 27-28 Zusammen mit ihm kreuzigten sie zwei Räuber, den einen rechts von ihm, den andern links.[1] (Mk 10,37) 



29 Die Leute, die vorbeikamen, verhöhnten ihn, schüttelten den Kopf und riefen: Ach, du willst den Tempel niederreißen und in drei Tagen wieder aufbauen? (Ps 22,8; Mt 27,39; Mk 14,58; Lk 23,35; Joh 2,19) 30 Rette dich selbst und steig herab vom Kreuz! 31 Ebenso verhöhnten ihn auch die Hohepriester und die Schriftgelehrten und sagten untereinander: Andere hat er gerettet, sich selbst kann er nicht retten. 32 Der Christus, der König von Israel! Er soll jetzt vom Kreuz herabsteigen, damit wir sehen und glauben. Auch die beiden Männer, die mit ihm zusammen gekreuzigt wurden, beschimpften ihn. 



33 Als die sechste Stunde kam, brach eine Finsternis über das ganze Land herein - bis zur neunten Stunde. (Mt 27,45; Lk 23,44; Joh 19,28) 34 Und in der neunten Stunde schrie Jesus mit lauter Stimme: Eloï, Eloï, lema sabachtani?, das heißt übersetzt: Mein Gott, mein Gott, warum hast du mich verlassen? (Ps 22,2) 35 Einige von denen, die dabeistanden und es hörten, sagten: Hört, er ruft nach Elija! 36 Einer lief hin, tauchte einen Schwamm in Essig, steckte ihn auf ein Rohr und gab Jesus zu trinken. Dabei sagte er: Lasst, wir wollen sehen, ob Elija kommt und ihn herabnimmt. (Ps 69,22) 37 Jesus aber schrie mit lauter Stimme. Dann hauchte er den Geist aus. 38 Da riss der Vorhang im Tempel in zwei Teile von oben bis unten. 39 Als der Hauptmann, der Jesus gegenüberstand, ihn auf diese Weise sterben sah, sagte er: Wahrhaftig, dieser Mensch war Gottes Sohn. 40 Auch einige Frauen sahen von Weitem zu, darunter Maria aus Magdala, Maria, die Mutter von Jakobus dem Kleinen und Joses, sowie Salome;[2] 41 sie waren Jesus schon in Galiläa nachgefolgt und hatten ihm gedient. Noch viele andere Frauen waren dabei, die mit ihm nach Jerusalem hinaufgezogen waren. 



42 Da es Rüsttag war, der Tag vor dem Sabbat, und es schon Abend wurde, (5Mo 21,23; Mt 27,57; Lk 23,50; Joh 19,38) 43 ging Josef von Arimathäa, ein vornehmes Mitglied des Hohen Rats, der auch auf das Reich Gottes wartete, zu Pilatus und wagte es, um den Leichnam Jesu zu bitten. 44 Pilatus war überrascht, als er hörte, dass Jesus schon tot sei. Er ließ den Hauptmann kommen und fragte ihn, ob Jesus bereits gestorben sei. 45 Als er es vom Hauptmann erfahren hatte, überließ er Josef den Leichnam. 46 Josef kaufte ein Leinentuch, nahm Jesus vom Kreuz, wickelte ihn in das Tuch und legte ihn in ein Grab, das in einen Felsen gehauen war. Dann wälzte er einen Stein vor den Eingang des Grabes. 47 Maria aus Magdala aber und Maria, die Mutter des Joses, beobachteten, wohin er gelegt wurde.

1 Und alsbald am Morgen hielten die Hohenpriester Rat mit den Ältesten und Schriftgelehrten, dazu der ganze Hohe Rat, und sie banden Jesus und führten ihn ab und überantworteten ihn Pilatus. 2 Und Pilatus fragte ihn: Bist du der König der Juden? Er aber antwortete ihm und sprach: Du sagst es. 3 Und die Hohenpriester beschuldigten ihn hart. 4 Pilatus aber fragte ihn abermals und sprach: Antwortest du nichts? Siehe, wie hart sie dich verklagen! 5 Jesus aber antwortete nichts mehr, sodass sich Pilatus verwunderte. (Jes 53,7; Mk 14,61) 



6 Er pflegte ihnen aber zum Fest einen Gefangenen loszugeben, welchen sie erbaten. 7 Es war aber einer, genannt Barabbas, gefangen mit den Aufrührern, die beim Aufruhr einen Mord begangen hatten. 8 Und das Volk ging hinauf und bat, dass er tue, wie er ihnen zu tun pflegte. 9 Pilatus aber antwortete ihnen: Wollt ihr, dass ich euch den König der Juden losgebe? 10 Denn er erkannte, dass ihn die Hohenpriester aus Neid überantwortet hatten. 11 Aber die Hohenpriester wiegelten das Volk auf, dass er ihnen viel lieber den Barabbas losgebe. 12 Pilatus aber antwortete wiederum und sprach zu ihnen: Was wollt ihr dann, dass ich tue mit dem, den ihr den König der Juden nennt? 13 Sie schrien abermals: Kreuzige ihn! 14 Pilatus aber sprach zu ihnen: Was hat er denn Böses getan? Aber sie schrien noch viel mehr: Kreuzige ihn! 15 Pilatus aber wollte dem Volk Genüge tun und gab ihnen Barabbas los und ließ Jesus geißeln und überantwortete ihn, dass er gekreuzigt würde. 16 Die Soldaten aber führten ihn hinein in den Palast, das ist ins Prätorium, und riefen die ganze Kohorte[1] zusammen 17 und zogen ihm einen Purpurmantel an und flochten eine Dornenkrone und setzten sie ihm auf 18 und fingen an, ihn zu grüßen: Gegrüßet seist du, der Juden König! 19 Und sie schlugen ihn mit einem Rohr auf das Haupt und spien ihn an und fielen auf die Knie und huldigten ihm. (Mk 14,65) 



20 Und als sie ihn verspottet hatten, zogen sie ihm den Purpurmantel aus und zogen ihm seine Kleider an. Und sie führten ihn hinaus, dass sie ihn kreuzigten. 21 Und zwangen einen, der vorüberging, Simon von Kyrene, der vom Feld kam, den Vater des Alexander und des Rufus, dass er ihm das Kreuz trage. 22 Und sie brachten ihn zu der Stätte Golgatha, das heißt übersetzt: Schädelstätte. 23 Und sie gaben ihm Myrrhe im Wein zu trinken; aber er nahm’s nicht. (Spr 31,6; Mk 14,25) 24 Und sie kreuzigten ihn. Und sie teilten seine Kleider und warfen das Los darum, wer was bekommen sollte. (Ps 22,19) 25 Und es war die dritte Stunde, als sie ihn kreuzigten. 26 Und es stand geschrieben, welche Schuld man ihm gab, nämlich: Der König der Juden. 27-28 Und sie kreuzigten mit ihm zwei Räuber, einen zu seiner Rechten und einen zu seiner Linken.[2] (Jes 53,12; Mk 14,48) 29 Und die vorübergingen, lästerten ihn und schüttelten ihre Köpfe und sprachen: Ha, der du den Tempel abbrichst und baust ihn auf in drei Tagen, (Ps 22,8; Mk 14,58) 30 hilf dir nun selber und steig herab vom Kreuz! 31 Desgleichen verspotteten ihn auch die Hohenpriester untereinander samt den Schriftgelehrten und sprachen: Er hat andern geholfen und kann sich selber nicht helfen. (Mk 5,34; Mk 6,56) 32 Der Christus, der König von Israel, er steige nun vom Kreuz, damit wir sehen und glauben. Und die mit ihm gekreuzigt waren, schmähten ihn auch. (Joh 4,48) 33 Und zur sechsten Stunde kam eine Finsternis über das ganze Land bis zur neunten Stunde. (Am 8,9) 34 Und zu der neunten Stunde rief Jesus laut: Eli, Eli, lama asabtani?[3] Das heißt übersetzt: Mein Gott, mein Gott, warum[4] hast du mich verlassen? (Ps 22,2) 35 Und einige, die dabeistanden, als sie das hörten, sprachen sie: Siehe, er ruft den Elia. 36 Da lief einer und füllte einen Schwamm mit Essig, steckte ihn auf ein Rohr, gab ihm zu trinken und sprach: Halt, lasst uns sehen, ob Elia komme und ihn herabnehme! (Ps 69,22) 37 Aber Jesus schrie laut und verschied. 38 Und der Vorhang im Tempel zerriss in zwei Stücke von oben an bis unten aus. (2Mo 26,31; 2Chr 3,14) 39 Der Hauptmann aber, der dabeistand, ihm gegenüber, und sah, dass er so verschied, sprach: Wahrlich, dieser Mensch ist Gottes Sohn gewesen! (Mk 1,11; Mk 14,61) 40 Und es waren auch Frauen da, die von ferne zuschauten, unter ihnen Maria Magdalena und Maria, die Mutter Jakobus des Kleinen und des Joses, und Salome, 41 die ihm nachgefolgt waren, als er in Galiläa war, und ihm gedient hatten, und viele andere Frauen, die mit ihm hinauf nach Jerusalem gegangen waren. (Lk 8,2; Joh 12,26) 



42 Und als es schon Abend wurde und weil Rüsttag war, das ist der Tag vor dem Sabbat, (5Mo 21,22) 43 kam Josef von Arimathäa, ein angesehener Ratsherr, der auch auf das Reich Gottes wartete; der wagte es und ging hinein zu Pilatus und bat um den Leichnam Jesu. 44 Pilatus aber wunderte sich, dass er schon tot war, und rief den Hauptmann und fragte ihn, ob er schon länger gestorben wäre. 45 Und als er’s erkundet hatte von dem Hauptmann, überließ er Josef den Leichnam. 46 Und der kaufte ein Leinentuch und nahm ihn ab vom Kreuz und wickelte ihn in das Tuch und legte ihn in ein Grab, das war in einen Felsen gehauen, und wälzte einen Stein vor des Grabes Tür. 47 Aber Maria Magdalena und Maria, die Mutter des Joses, sahen, wo er hingelegt war.

1 And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate. (Mt 27,1; Mt 27,2; Mk 3,6; Mk 10,33; Lk 3,1; Lk 13,1; Lk 22,66; Lk 23,1; Joh 18,28; Apg 3,13; Apg 4,27; 1Tim 6,13) 2 And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.” (Mt 2,2; Mt 27,11; Mk 15,9; Mk 15,12; Mk 15,18; Mk 15,26; Mk 15,32; Lk 22,70; Lk 23,2; Joh 18,29; Joh 18,39; Joh 19,3; 1Tim 6,13) 3 And the chief priests accused him of many things. 4 And Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer to make? 6 Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked. (Mt 27,15; Lk 23,18; Joh 18,39; Joh 19,16) 7 And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas. (Apg 3,14; Apg 5,36) 8 And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them. 9 And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” 10 For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up. (Joh 12,19) 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead. 12 And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?” (Joh 19,15) 13 And they cried out again, “Crucify him.” 14 And Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.” (Lk 23,41; Joh 8,46) 15 So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged[1] Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. 21 And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross. (Mt 27,32; Lk 23,26; Joh 19,17) 22 And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull). (Mt 27,33; Lk 23,32; Lk 23,44; Joh 19,17; Joh 19,23; Joh 19,28) 23 And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it. (Mt 2,11; Joh 19,39) 24 And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take. (Joh 19,14) 26 And the inscription of the charge against him read, “The King of the Jews.” (Mk 15,2) 27 And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.[5] (Mk 10,37; Joh 18,40) 29 And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, (Hi 16,4; Ps 22,7; Ps 35,25; Ps 40,15; Ps 109,25; Jer 18,16; Kla 1,12; Kla 2,15; Mk 14,58) 30 save yourself, and come down from the cross!” 31 So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. (Mt 26,53; Lk 4,23; Joh 10,18) 32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him. 33 And when the sixth hour[6] had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.[7] 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Ps 22,1; Hebr 5,7) 35 And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” 36 And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” (Rut 2,14; Ps 69,21) 37 And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. (Mk 15,34; Joh 10,18) 38 And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. (2Mo 26,31; 2Chr 3,14) 39 And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he[8] breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son[9] of God!” (Mt 27,43; Mt 27,54; Lk 23,47; Lk 23,49) 40 There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. (Ps 38,11; Mt 27,56; Mk 16,1; Lk 8,2; Joh 19,25) 41 When he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him, and there were also many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem. (Mk 15,40; Lk 2,4) 



42 And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath, (Mt 27,57; Mt 27,62; Lk 23,50; Joh 19,38) 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. (Lk 2,25; Lk 2,38; Apg 13,50; Apg 17,12) 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died.[10] And summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead. (Mk 15,39) 45 And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the corpse to Joseph. (Mk 15,44) 46 And Joseph[11] bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. (Jes 22,16; Jes 53,9; Mk 14,51; Mk 16,4; Joh 11,38) 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid. (Mk 15,40)

1 Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate. 2 ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ asked Pilate. ‘You have said so,’ Jesus replied. 3 The chief priests accused him of many things. 4 So again Pilate asked him, ‘Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.’ 5 But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed. 6 Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested. 7 A man called Barabbas was in prison with the rebels who had committed murder in the uprising. 8 The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did. 9 ‘Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?’ asked Pilate, 10 knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to get Pilate to release Barabbas instead. 12 ‘What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?’ Pilate asked them. 13 ‘Crucify him!’ they shouted. 14 ‘Why? What crime has he committed?’ asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, ‘Crucify him!’ 15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified. 



16 The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. 17 They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. 18 And they began to call out to him, ‘Hail, king of the Jews!’ 19 Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spat on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him. 



21 A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross. 22 They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means ‘the place of the skull’). 23 Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it. 24 And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get. 25 It was nine in the morning when they crucified him. 26 The written notice of the charge against him read: The king of the Jews. 27-28 They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left.[1] (Lk 22,37) 29 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, ‘So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, 30 come down from the cross and save yourself!’ 31 In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. ‘He saved others,’ they said, ‘but he can’t save himself! 32 Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.’ Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him. 



33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?’ (which means ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’). (Ps 22,1) 35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, ‘Listen, he’s calling Elijah.’ 36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. ‘Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,’ he said. 37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. 38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[2] he said, ‘Surely this man was the Son of God!’ 40 Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph,[3] and Salome. 41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there. 



42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. 45 When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where he was laid.
