1 Danach ging Jesus an das andere Ufer des Sees von Galiläa, der auch See von Tiberias heißt. (Mt 14,13; Mt 15,32; Mk 6,32; Mk 8,1; Lk 9,10) 2 Eine große Menschenmenge folgte ihm, weil sie die Zeichen sahen, die er an den Kranken tat. 3 Jesus stieg auf den Berg und setzte sich dort mit seinen Jüngern nieder. 4 Das Pascha, das Fest der Juden, war nahe. (Joh 2,13; Joh 11,55) 5 Als Jesus aufblickte und sah, dass so viele Menschen zu ihm kamen, fragte er Philippus: Wo sollen wir Brot kaufen, damit diese Leute zu essen haben? 6 Das sagte er aber nur, um ihn auf die Probe zu stellen; denn er selbst wusste, was er tun wollte. 7 Philippus antwortete ihm: Brot für zweihundert Denare reicht nicht aus, wenn jeder von ihnen auch nur ein kleines Stück bekommen soll. 8 Einer seiner Jünger, Andreas, der Bruder des Simon Petrus, sagte zu ihm: 9 Hier ist ein kleiner Junge, der hat fünf Gerstenbrote und zwei Fische; doch was ist das für so viele? (2Kön 4,42) 10 Jesus sagte: Lasst die Leute sich setzen! Es gab dort nämlich viel Gras. Da setzten sie sich; es waren etwa fünftausend Männer. 11 Dann nahm Jesus die Brote, sprach das Dankgebet und teilte an die Leute aus, so viel sie wollten; ebenso machte er es mit den Fischen. 12 Als die Menge satt geworden war, sagte er zu seinen Jüngern: Sammelt die übrig gebliebenen Brocken, damit nichts ver dirbt! 13 Sie sammelten und füllten zwölf Körbe mit den Brocken, die von den fünf Gerstenbroten nach dem Essen übrig waren. (2Kön 4,44) 14 Als die Menschen das Zeichen sahen, das er getan hatte, sagten sie: Das ist wirklich der Prophet, der in die Welt kommen soll.[1] (5Mo 18,15) 15 Da erkannte Jesus, dass sie kommen würden, um ihn in ihre Gewalt zu bringen und zum König zu machen. Daher zog er sich wieder auf den Berg zurück, er allein. 16 Als es aber Abend geworden war, gingen seine Jünger zum See hinab, (Mt 14,22; Mk 6,45) 17 bestiegen ein Boot und fuhren über den See, auf Kafarnaum zu. Es war schon dunkel geworden und Jesus war noch nicht zu ihnen gekommen. 18 Da wurde der See durch einen heftigen Sturm aufgewühlt. 19 Als sie etwa fünfundzwanzig oder dreißig Stadien gefahren waren, sahen sie, wie Jesus über den See kam und sich dem Boot näherte; und sie fürchteten sich. 20 Er aber rief ihnen zu: Ich bin es; fürchtet euch nicht! 21 Sie wollten ihn zu sich in das Boot nehmen, aber schon war das Boot am Ufer, das sie erreichen wollten. 



22 Am nächsten Tag stand die Menge am anderen Ufer des Sees; sie hatten gesehen, dass nur ein Boot dort gewesen war und dass Jesus nicht mit seinen Jüngern ins Boot gestiegen war, sondern dass seine Jünger allein abgefahren waren. 23 Von Tiberias her kamen andere Boote in die Nähe des Ortes, wo sie nach dem Dankgebet des Herrn das Brot gegessen hatten. 24 Als die Leute sahen, dass weder Jesus noch seine Jünger dort waren, stiegen sie in die Boote, fuhren nach Kafarnaum und suchten Jesus. 25 Als sie ihn am anderen Ufer des Sees fanden, fragten sie ihn: Rabbi, wann bist du hierhergekommen? 26 Jesus antwortete ihnen: Amen, amen, ich sage euch: Ihr sucht mich nicht, weil ihr Zeichen gesehen habt, sondern weil ihr von den Broten gegessen habt und satt geworden seid. 27 Müht euch nicht ab für die Speise, die verdirbt, sondern für die Speise, die für das ewige Leben bleibt und die der Menschensohn euch geben wird! Denn ihn hat Gott, der Vater, mit seinem Siegel beglaubigt. (Joh 6,51) 28 Da fragten sie ihn: Was müssen wir tun, um die Werke Gottes zu vollbringen? 29 Jesus antwortete ihnen: Das ist das Werk Gottes, dass ihr an den glaubt, den er gesandt hat. 30 Sie sagten zu ihm: Welches Zeichen tust du denn, damit wir es sehen und dir glauben? Was für ein Werk tust du? (Mt 16,1; Mk 8,11; Lk 11,16) 31 Unsere Väter haben das Manna in der Wüste gegessen, wie es in der Schrift heißt: Brot vom Himmel gab er ihnen zu essen. (2Mo 16,4; Ps 78,24) 32 Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Amen, amen, ich sage euch: Nicht Mose hat euch das Brot vom Himmel gegeben, sondern mein Vater gibt euch das wahre Brot vom Himmel. 33 Denn das Brot, das Gott gibt, kommt vom Himmel herab und gibt der Welt das Leben.[2] 34 Da baten sie ihn: Herr, gib uns immer dieses Brot! 35 Jesus antwortete ihnen: Ich bin das Brot des Lebens; wer zu mir kommt, wird nie mehr hungern, und wer an mich glaubt, wird nie mehr Durst haben. (Sir 24,21) 36 Aber ich habe euch gesagt: Ihr habt gesehen und doch glaubt ihr nicht. 37 Alles, was der Vater mir gibt, wird zu mir kommen, und wer zu mir kommt, den werde ich nicht abweisen; (Mt 26,39; Mk 14,36; Lk 22,42; Joh 4,34; Joh 5,30) 38 denn ich bin nicht vom Himmel herabgekommen, um meinen Willen zu tun, sondern den Willen dessen, der mich gesandt hat. 39 Das aber ist der Wille dessen, der mich gesandt hat, dass ich keinen von denen, die er mir gegeben hat, zugrunde gehen lasse, sondern dass ich sie auferwecke am Jüngsten Tag. 40 Denn das ist der Wille meines Vaters, dass jeder, der den Sohn sieht und an ihn glaubt, das ewige Leben hat und dass ich ihn auferwecke am Jüngsten Tag. 41 Da murrten die Juden gegen ihn, weil er gesagt hatte: Ich bin das Brot, das vom Himmel herabgekommen ist. 42 Und sie sagten: Ist das nicht Jesus, der Sohn Josefs, dessen Vater und Mutter wir kennen? Wie kann er jetzt sagen: Ich bin vom Himmel herabgekommen? (Mt 13,54; Mk 6,1; Lk 4,16) 43 Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Murrt nicht! 44 Niemand kann zu mir kommen, wenn nicht der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, ihn zieht; und ich werde ihn auferwecken am Jüngsten Tag. 45 Bei den Propheten steht geschrieben: Und alle werden Schüler Gottes sein. Jeder, der auf den Vater hört und seine Lehre annimmt, wird zu mir kommen. (Jes 54,13; Jer 31,33) 46 Niemand hat den Vater gesehen außer dem, der von Gott ist; nur er hat den Vater gesehen. (Joh 1,18; Joh 14,9) 47 Amen, amen, ich sage euch: Wer glaubt, hat das ewige Leben. 48 Ich bin das Brot des Lebens. 49 Eure Väter haben in der Wüste das Manna gegessen und sind gestorben. 50 So aber ist es mit dem Brot, das vom Himmel herabkommt: Wenn jemand davon isst, wird er nicht sterben. 51 Ich bin das lebendige Brot, das vom Himmel herabgekommen ist. Wer von diesem Brot isst, wird in Ewigkeit leben. Das Brot, das ich geben werde, ist mein Fleisch für das Leben der Welt. (Joh 1,14) 52 Da stritten sich die Juden und sagten: Wie kann er uns sein Fleisch zu essen geben? 53 Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Amen, amen, ich sage euch: Wenn ihr das Fleisch des Menschensohnes nicht esst und sein Blut nicht trinkt, habt ihr das Leben nicht in euch. 54 Wer mein Fleisch isst und mein Blut trinkt, hat das ewige Leben und ich werde ihn auferwecken am Jüngsten Tag. (Mt 26,26; Mk 14,22; Lk 22,17) 55 Denn mein Fleisch ist wahrhaft eine Speise und mein Blut ist wahrhaft ein Trank. 56 Wer mein Fleisch isst und mein Blut trinkt, der bleibt in mir und ich bleibe in ihm. 57 Wie mich der lebendige Vater gesandt hat und wie ich durch den Vater lebe, so wird jeder, der mich isst, durch mich leben. (Joh 5,26) 58 Dies ist das Brot, das vom Himmel herabgekommen ist. Es ist nicht wie das Brot, das die Väter gegessen haben, sie sind gestorben. Wer aber dieses Brot isst, wird leben in Ewigkeit. 59 Diese Worte sprach Jesus, als er in der Synagoge von Kafarnaum lehrte. 



60 Viele seiner Jünger, die ihm zuhörten, sagten: Diese Rede ist hart. Wer kann sie hören? 61 Jesus erkannte, dass seine Jünger darüber murrten, und fragte sie: Daran nehmt ihr Anstoß? 62 Was werdet ihr sagen, wenn ihr den Menschensohn aufsteigen seht, dorthin, wo er vorher war? 63 Der Geist ist es, der lebendig macht; das Fleisch nützt nichts. Die Worte, die ich zu euch gesprochen habe, sind Geist und sind Leben. 64 Aber es gibt unter euch einige, die nicht glauben. Jesus wusste nämlich von Anfang an, welche es waren, die nicht glaubten, und wer ihn ausliefern würde. (Joh 5,38; Joh 10,26) 65 Und er sagte: Deshalb habe ich zu euch gesagt: Niemand kann zu mir kommen, wenn es ihm nicht vom Vater gegeben ist. 66 Daraufhin zogen sich viele seiner Jünger zurück und gingen nicht mehr mit ihm umher. 67 Da fragte Jesus die Zwölf: Wollt auch ihr weggehen? 68 Simon Petrus antwortete ihm: Herr, zu wem sollen wir gehen? Du hast Worte des ewigen Lebens. (Mt 16,16; Mk 8,29; Lk 9,20; Apg 5,20) 69 Wir sind zum Glauben gekommen und haben erkannt: Du bist der Heilige Gottes. 70 Jesus erwiderte: Habe ich nicht euch, die Zwölf, erwählt? Und doch ist einer von euch ein Teufel. (Mt 26,14; Mk 14,10; Lk 22,3; Joh 13,18) 71 Er sprach von Judas, dem Sohn des Simon Iskariot; denn dieser sollte ihn ausliefern: einer der Zwölf.

1 After this Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. (Mt 4,18; Mt 14,13; Mk 6,32; Lk 9,10; Joh 21,1) 2 And a large crowd was following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick. 3 Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. (Joh 6,15) 4 Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. (Joh 2,13; Joh 5,1; Joh 7,2; Joh 11,55) 5 Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” (Lk 6,20; Joh 1,44) 6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. 7 Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii[1] worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.” (Mk 6,37) 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, (Joh 1,40; Joh 1,44) 9 “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?” (2Kön 4,42) 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. (Mk 6,39) 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. (Mt 15,36; Joh 6,23) 12 And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten. 14 When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!” (Mt 11,3; Mt 21,11; Joh 1,21; Joh 4,19; Joh 7,40; Joh 11,27) 15 Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself. 16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles,[2] they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” (Lk 24,38) 21 Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going. 



22 On the next day the crowd that remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. (Joh 21,8) 23 Other boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. (Joh 6,11) 24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and went to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. (Mt 14,34; Mk 6,53; Joh 6,17; Joh 6,59) 25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” (Joh 1,38) 26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. (Joh 6,2; Joh 6,24) 27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. And I will raise him up on the last day. (Joh 6,35) 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. (Joh 6,31; Joh 6,58) 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. (Joh 6,33; Joh 6,51; Joh 6,58) 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. (Joh 6,27; Joh 20,31) 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. (Joh 6,39; Joh 6,40) 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. (Joh 15,4; 1Joh 3,24; 1Joh 4,13; 1Joh 4,15) 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. (Mt 16,16; Joh 3,17; Joh 5,26; Joh 11,25; Offb 1,18) 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread[3] the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” (Joh 6,31; Joh 6,33; Joh 6,49) 59 Jesus[4] said these things in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum. (Joh 6,24) 



60 When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” (Joh 6,64; Joh 6,66) 61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this? (Joh 2,24) 62 Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? (Mk 16,19; Joh 3,13; Joh 6,27; Joh 17,5) 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (Joh 3,6; Joh 6,68; 1Kor 15,45; 2Kor 3,6) 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) (Joh 6,61; Joh 6,66; Joh 6,71; Joh 13,11) 65 And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.” (Joh 3,27; Joh 6,44) 66 After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. (Joh 6,60; Joh 6,64) 67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” (Joh 6,70) 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, (Joh 12,50; Joh 17,8; Apg 5,20) 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” (Mk 1,24; Joh 1,49; Joh 11,27; 1Joh 4,16) 70 Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve? And yet one of you is a devil.” (Joh 6,67; Joh 13,2; Joh 13,18; Joh 13,27; Joh 17,12) 71 He spoke of Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray him.
