1 Nach diesen Worten ging Jesus mit seinen Jüngern hinaus, auf die andere Seite des Baches Kidron. Dort war ein Garten; in den ging er mit seinen Jüngern hinein. (Mt 26,30; Mk 14,26; Lk 22,39) 2 Auch Judas, der ihn auslieferte, kannte den Ort, weil Jesus dort oft mit seinen Jüngern zusammengekommen war. 3 Judas holte die Soldaten und die Gerichtsdiener der Hohepriester und der Pharisäer und kam dorthin mit Fackeln, Laternen und Waffen. (Mt 26,47; Mk 14,43; Lk 22,47) 4 Jesus, der alles wusste, was mit ihm geschehen sollte, ging hinaus und fragte sie: Wen sucht ihr? 5 Sie antworteten ihm: Jesus von Nazaret. Er sagte zu ihnen: Ich bin es. Auch Judas, der ihn auslieferte, stand bei ihnen. 6 Als er zu ihnen sagte: Ich bin es!, wichen sie zurück und stürzten zu Boden. 7 Er fragte sie noch einmal: Wen sucht ihr? Sie sagten: Jesus von Nazaret. 8 Jesus antwortete: Ich habe euch gesagt, dass ich es bin. Wenn ihr also mich sucht, dann lasst diese gehen! 9 So sollte sich das Wort erfüllen, das er gesagt hatte: Ich habe keinen von denen verloren, die du mir gegeben hast. (Joh 6,39; Joh 10,28; Joh 17,12) 10 Simon Petrus, der ein Schwert bei sich hatte, zog es, traf damit den Diener des Hohepriesters und hieb ihm das rechte Ohr ab; der Diener aber hieß Malchus. 11 Da sagte Jesus zu Petrus: Steck das Schwert in die Scheide! Der Kelch, den mir der Vater gegeben hat - soll ich ihn nicht trinken? (Mt 20,22; Mt 26,39; Mk 10,38; Joh 12,27) 



12 Die Soldaten, der Hauptmann und die Gerichtsdiener der Juden nahmen Jesus fest, fesselten ihn 13 und führten ihn zuerst zu Hannas; er war nämlich der Schwiegervater des Kajaphas, der in jenem Jahr Hohepriester war. (Lk 3,2; Apg 4,6) 14 Kajaphas aber war es, der den Juden den Rat gegeben hatte: Es ist besser, dass ein einziger Mensch für das Volk stirbt. (Joh 11,50) 15 Simon Petrus und ein anderer Jünger folgten Jesus. Dieser Jünger war mit dem Hohepriester bekannt und ging mit Jesus in den Hof des Hohepriesters. (Mt 26,58; Mk 14,54; Lk 22,54) 16 Petrus aber blieb draußen am Tor stehen. Da kam der andere Jünger, der Bekannte des Hohepriesters, heraus; er sprach mit der Pförtnerin und führte Petrus hinein. 17 Da sagte die Pförtnerin zu Petrus: Bist nicht auch du einer von den Jüngern dieses Menschen? Er sagte: Ich bin es nicht. 18 Die Knechte und die Diener hatten sich ein Kohlenfeuer angezündet und standen dabei, um sich zu wärmen; denn es war kalt. Auch Petrus stand bei ihnen und wärmte sich. 19 Der Hohepriester befragte Jesus über seine Jünger und über seine Lehre. (Mt 26,63; Mk 14,61; Mk 15,1; Lk 22,66) 20 Jesus antwortete ihm: Ich habe offen vor aller Welt gesprochen. Ich habe immer in der Synagoge und im Tempel gelehrt, wo alle Juden zusammenkommen. Nichts habe ich im Geheimen gesprochen. 21 Warum fragst du mich? Frag doch die, die gehört haben, was ich zu ihnen gesagt habe; siehe, sie wissen, was ich geredet habe. 22 Als er dies sagte, schlug einer von den Dienern, der dabeistand, Jesus ins Gesicht und sagte: Antwortest du so dem Hohepriester? 23 Jesus entgegnete ihm: Wenn es nicht recht war, was ich gesagt habe, dann weise es nach; wenn es aber recht war, warum schlägst du mich? 24 Da schickte ihn Hannas gefesselt zum Hohepriester Kajaphas. 25 Simon Petrus aber stand da und wärmte sich. Da sagten sie zu ihm: Bist nicht auch du einer von seinen Jüngern? Er leugnete und sagte: Ich bin es nicht. 26 Einer von den Knechten des Hohepriesters, ein Verwandter dessen, dem Petrus das Ohr abgehauen hatte, sagte: Habe ich dich nicht im Garten bei ihm gesehen? 27 Wieder leugnete Petrus und gleich darauf krähte ein Hahn. 



28 Von Kajaphas brachten sie Jesus zum Prätorium; es war früh am Morgen. Sie selbst gingen nicht in das Gebäude hinein, um nicht unrein zu werden, sondern das Paschalamm essen zu können. (Mk 15,1; Lk 23,1; Joh 18,1) 29 Deshalb kam Pilatus zu ihnen heraus und fragte: Welche Anklage erhebt ihr gegen diesen Menschen? 30 Sie antworteten ihm: Wenn er kein Übeltäter wäre, hätten wir ihn dir nicht ausgeliefert. 31 Pilatus sagte zu ihnen: Nehmt ihr ihn doch und richtet ihn nach eurem Gesetz! Die Juden antworteten ihm: Uns ist es nicht gestattet, jemanden hinzurichten. 32 So sollte sich das Wort Jesu erfüllen, mit dem er angedeutet hatte, welchen Tod er sterben werde. (Joh 3,14; Joh 12,32) 33 Da ging Pilatus wieder in das Prätorium hinein, ließ Jesus rufen und fragte ihn: Bist du der König der Juden? (Joh 12,13; Joh 19,15) 34 Jesus antwortete: Sagst du das von dir aus oder haben es dir andere über mich gesagt? 35 Pilatus entgegnete: Bin ich denn ein Jude? Dein Volk und die Hohepriester haben dich an mich ausgeliefert. Was hast du getan? 36 Jesus antwortete: Mein Königtum ist nicht von dieser Welt. Wenn mein Königtum von dieser Welt wäre, würden meine Leute kämpfen, damit ich den Juden nicht ausgeliefert würde. Nun aber ist mein Königtum nicht von hier. 37 Da sagte Pilatus zu ihm: Also bist du doch ein König? Jesus antwortete: Du sagst es, ich bin ein König. Ich bin dazu geboren und dazu in die Welt gekommen, dass ich für die Wahrheit Zeugnis ablege. Jeder, der aus der Wahrheit ist, hört auf meine Stimme. (Joh 5,33; 3Joh 1,3) 38 Pilatus sagte zu ihm: Was ist Wahrheit? Nachdem er das gesagt hatte, ging er wieder zu den Juden hinaus und sagte zu ihnen: Ich finde keine Schuld an ihm. 39 Ihr seid aber gewohnt, dass ich euch zum Paschafest einen freilasse. Wollt ihr also, dass ich euch den König der Juden freilasse? 40 Da schrien sie wieder: Nicht diesen, sondern Barabbas! Barabbas aber war ein Räuber.

1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered. (2Sam 15,23; Mt 26,30; Mt 26,36; Mk 14,26; Mk 14,32; Lk 22,39) 2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples. (Lk 21,37; Lk 22,39; Lk 22,40) 3 So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons. (Mt 26,47; Mk 14,43; Lk 22,47) 4 Then Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, “Whom do you seek?” (Joh 1,38; Joh 13,1; Joh 18,7; Joh 20,15) 5 They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.”[1] Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. 6 When Jesus[2] said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. (Mt 26,53; Joh 10,18; Offb 1,17) 7 So he asked them again, “Whom do you seek?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” (Joh 18,4) 8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. So, if you seek me, let these men go.” 9 This was to fulfill the word that he had spoken: “Of those whom you gave me I have lost not one.” (Joh 17,12) 10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant[3] and cut off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.) (Lk 22,38) 11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?” (Jes 51,22; Mt 20,22; Mt 26,39; Mt 26,42) 



12 So the band of soldiers and their captain and the officers of the Jews[4] arrested Jesus and bound him. 13 First they led him to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. (Mt 26,3; Mt 26,57; Lk 3,2; Joh 18,24; Joh 18,28; Apg 4,6) 14 It was Caiaphas who had advised the Jews that it would be expedient that one man should die for the people. (Joh 11,50) 



15 Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest, (Mt 26,58; Mk 14,54; Lk 22,54) 16 but Peter stood outside at the door. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the servant girl who kept watch at the door, and brought Peter in. (Mt 26,69; Mk 14,66; Lk 22,55) 17 The servant girl at the door said to Peter, “You also are not one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.” (Apg 12,13) 18 Now the servants[5] and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself. (Mk 14,54; Joh 18,25) 



19 The high priest then questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. (Mt 26,59; Mk 14,55; Lk 22,63) 20 Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all Jews come together. I have said nothing in secret. (Jes 45,19; Jes 48,16; Mt 26,55; Joh 7,4; Joh 7,26; Joh 8,26) 21 Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them; they know what I said.” 22 When he had said these things, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?” (Apg 23,4) 23 Jesus answered him, “If what I said is wrong, bear witness about the wrong; but if what I said is right, why do you strike me?” 24 Annas then sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. (Joh 18,13) 



25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You also are not one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.” (Mt 26,71; Mk 14,69; Lk 22,58) 26 One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you in the garden with him?” (Joh 18,1; Joh 18,10) 27 Peter again denied it, and at once a rooster crowed. (Joh 13,38) 



28 Then they led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the governor’s headquarters.[6] It was early morning. They themselves did not enter the governor’s headquarters, so that they would not be defiled, but could eat the Passover. (Mt 27,2; Mt 27,27; Mk 15,1; Lk 23,1; Joh 11,55; Joh 18,24; Joh 18,33; Joh 19,9; Joh 19,14; Apg 10,28; Apg 11,3) 29 So Pilate went outside to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” (Mt 27,11; Mk 15,2; Lk 23,2) 30 They answered him, “If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.” 31 Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.” (Joh 19,6) 32 This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to show by what kind of death he was going to die. (Mt 20,19; Mt 26,2; Mk 10,33; Lk 18,32; Joh 12,32; Joh 13,18) 



33 So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” (Joh 19,9; Joh 19,12) 34 Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” 35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” 36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” (Dan 2,44; Dan 7,14; Dan 7,27; Mt 26,53; Lk 17,21; Joh 6,15; Joh 8,23; Joh 15,19; Joh 17,14; Joh 17,16; Joh 19,16; 1Joh 2,16; 1Joh 4,5) 37 Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” (Lk 22,70; Joh 3,11; Joh 3,32; Joh 5,31; Joh 8,13; Joh 8,18; Joh 8,47; Joh 10,16; Joh 10,27; Joh 12,27; Joh 16,28; Röm 14,9; 1Joh 2,21; 1Joh 3,19; 1Joh 4,6) 38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him. (Lk 23,4; Joh 19,4; Joh 19,6) 39 But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” (Mt 27,15; Mt 27,20; Mk 15,6; Lk 23,18) 40 They cried out again, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.[7] (Apg 3,14)
