1Um jene Zeit verließ Juda seine Brüder und begab sich hinunter zu einem Mann aus Adullam, der Hira hieß.2Juda sah dort die Tochter eines Kanaaniters namens Schua. Er nahm sie und kam zu ihr.3Sie wurde schwanger, gebar einen Sohn und gab ihm den Namen Er.4Sie wurde abermals schwanger, gebar einen Sohn und gab ihm den Namen Onan.5Und noch einmal gebar sie einen Sohn und gab ihm den Namen Schela. Juda war in Kesib, als sie ihn gebar.6Juda nahm für seinen Erstgeborenen Er eine Frau namens Tamar.7Aber Er, der Erstgeborene Judas, missfiel dem HERRN und so ließ ihn der HERR sterben.8Da sagte Juda zu Onan: Geh zur Frau deines Bruders, vollzieh mit ihr die Schwagerehe und verschaff deinem Bruder Nachkommen![1] (5Mo 25,5; Rut 2,20; Rut 3,9; Rut 4,1)9Onan aber wusste, dass die Nachkommen nicht ihm gehören würden. Sooft er zur Frau seines Bruders ging, ließ er den Samen zur Erde fallen und verderben, um seinem Bruder Nachkommen vorzuenthalten.10Was er tat, missfiel dem HERRN und so ließ er auch ihn sterben.11Nun sagte Juda zu seiner Schwiegertochter Tamar: Bleib als Witwe im Haus deines Vaters, bis mein Sohn Schela groß ist! Denn er dachte: Er soll mir nicht auch noch sterben wie seine Brüder. Tamar ging und blieb im Haus ihres Vaters.12Viele Jahre vergingen. Die Tochter Schuas, die Frau Judas, war gestorben. Als die Trauer vorbei war, ging Juda mit seinem Freund Hira aus Adullam hinauf nach Timna zur Schafschur.13Man berichtete Tamar: Siehe, dein Schwiegervater geht gerade nach Timna hinauf, um seine Schafe zu scheren.14Da zog sie ihre Witwenkleider aus, legte einen Schleier über und verhüllte sich. Dann setzte sie sich an den Ortseingang von Enajim, der an der Straße nach Timna liegt. Sie hatte nämlich gemerkt, dass Schela groß geworden war und dass man sie ihm nicht zur Frau gegeben hatte.15Juda sah sie und hielt sie für eine Dirne; denn sie hatte ihr Gesicht verhüllt.16Er bog auf den Weg zu ihr ein und sagte: Mach schon, ich will zu dir kommen! Er wusste ja nicht, dass es seine Schwiegertochter war. Sie antwortete: Was gibst du mir, wenn du zu mir kommst?17Er sagte: Ich werde dir ein Ziegenböckchen von der Herde schicken. Sie entgegnete: Nur wenn du mir ein Pfand gibst, bis du es schickst.18Da fragte er: Was für ein Pfand soll ich dir dalassen? Deinen Siegelring, deine Schnur und den Stab in deiner Hand, antwortete sie. Er gab es ihr. Dann ging er zu ihr und sie wurde von ihm schwanger.19Sie stand auf, ging weg, legte ihren Schleier ab und zog wieder ihre Witwenkleider an.20Juda schickte das Ziegenböckchen durch seinen Freund aus Adullam hin, um das Pfand aus der Hand der Frau zurückzuerhalten. Er fand sie aber nicht.21Er fragte die Leute aus ihrem Ort: Wo ist die Dirne, die in Enajim an der Straße saß? Sie antworteten ihm: Hier gibt es keine Dirne.22Darauf kehrte er zu Juda zurück und sagte: Ich habe sie nicht gefunden und außerdem sagen die Leute aus dem Ort, hier sei keine Dirne gewesen.23Juda antwortete: Soll sie es behalten! Wenn man uns nur nicht auslacht! Siehe, ich habe ja dieses Böckchen geschickt, aber du hast sie nicht gefunden.24Nach etwa drei Monaten meldete man Juda: Deine Schwiegertochter Tamar hat Unzucht getrieben und siehe, sie ist schwanger durch Unzucht. Da sagte Juda: Führt sie hinaus! Sie soll verbrannt werden.25Als man sie hinausführte, schickte sie zu ihrem Schwiegervater und ließ ihm sagen: Von dem Mann, dem das gehört, bin ich schwanger. Auch ließ sie sagen: Sieh genau hin: Wem gehören der Siegelring, die Schnüre und dieser Stab?26Juda sah genau hin und gab zu: Sie ist mir gegenüber im Recht, weil ich sie meinem Sohn Schela nicht zur Frau gegeben habe. Danach verkehrte er mit ihr nicht mehr.27Als die Zeit kam, dass sie gebären sollte, siehe, da waren Zwillinge in ihrem Leib.28Bei der Geburt streckte einer die Hand heraus. Die Hebamme griff zu, band einen roten Faden um die Hand und sagte: Dieser ist zuerst herausgekommen.29Als er aber seine Hand zurückzog, siehe, da kam sein Bruder heraus. Da sagte sie: Warum hast du dir den Durchbruch erzwungen? So gab man ihm den Namen Perez - Durchbruch -.30Dann erst kam sein Bruder zum Vorschein, an dessen Hand der rote Faden war. Judah and Tamar
1It happened at that time that Judah went down from his brothers and turned aside to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah. (1Mo 19,3; 1Mo 38,16; 1Sam 22,1; 2Sam 23,13; 2Kön 4,8; 1Chr 11,15; Mi 1,15)2There Judah saw the daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua. He took her and went in to her, (1Chr 2,3)3and she conceived and bore a son, and he called his name Er. (1Mo 46,12; 4Mo 26,19)4She conceived again and bore a son, and she called his name Onan. (1Mo 38,3)5Yet again she bore a son, and she called his name Shelah. Judah[1] was in Chezib when she bore him. (1Mo 38,3)6And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.7But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord put him to death. (1Chr 2,3)8Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.” (5Mo 25,5; Mt 22,24; Mk 12,19; Lk 20,28)9But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his. When Judah was comforted, he went up to Timnah to his sheepshearers, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite. She said, “What will you give me, that you may come in to me?”17He answered, “I will send you a young goat from the flock.” And she said, “If you give me a pledge, until you send it—”18He said, “What pledge shall I give you?” She replied, “Your signet and your cord and your staff that is in your hand.” So he gave them to her and went in to her, and she conceived by him. (1Mo 38,14)20When Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite to take back the pledge from the woman’s hand, he did not find her.21And he asked the men of the place, “Where is the cult prostitute[2] who was at Enaim at the roadside?” And they said, “No cult prostitute has been here.” (1Mo 38,14)22So he returned to Judah and said, “I have not found her. Also, the men of the place said, ‘No cult prostitute has been here.’”23And Judah replied, “Let her keep the things as her own, or we shall be laughed at. You see, I sent this young goat, and you did not find her.”24About three months later Judah was told, “Tamar your daughter-in-law has been immoral.[3] Moreover, she is pregnant by immorality.”[4] And Judah said, “Bring her out, and let her be burned.” (3Mo 21,9; 5Mo 22,21; Ri 19,2; Joh 8,5)25As she was being brought out, she sent word to her father-in-law, “By the man to whom these belong, I am pregnant.” And she said, “Please identify whose these are, the signet and the cord and the staff.” (1Mo 38,18)26Then Judah identified them and said, “She is more righteous than I, since I did not give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not know her again. (1Mo 38,14; 1Sam 24,17)27When the time of her labor came, there were twins in her womb.28And when she was in labor, one put out a hand, and the midwife took and tied a scarlet thread on his hand, saying, “This one came out first.”29But as he drew back his hand, behold, his brother came out.
