1A Miktam[1] of David. Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. (Ps 11:1; Ps 56:1; Ps 57:1; Ps 60:1)2I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” (Ps 73:25)3As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight.[2] (Ex 19:6; De 7:6; 1Pe 2:9)4The sorrows of those who run after[3] another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips. (Ex 23:13; Jos 23:7)5The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. (Nu 18:20; De 32:9; Ps 23:5; Ps 73:26; Ps 116:13; Ps 119:57; Ps 125:3; Ps 142:5; Jer 10:16; Jer 51:19; La 3:24)6The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. (Mic 2:5)7I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me.[4] (1Sa 23:9; 2Sa 5:18; Ps 7:9; Ps 17:3; Ps 42:8)8I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. (Ps 10:6; Ps 15:5; Ps 109:31; Ps 110:5; Ps 119:30; Ps 121:5; Ac 2:25)9Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being[5] rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. (Ge 49:6; Ps 30:12; Ps 57:8; Ps 108:1)10For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.[6] (Job 21:13; Ps 49:9; Ps 89:18; Ps 103:4; Mr 1:24; Ac 13:35)11You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Ps 21:6; Ps 36:8; Mt 7:14)
Psalm 16
New International Version
A miktam of David.
1Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge.[1]2I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.’3I say of the holy people who are in the land, ‘They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.’4Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more. I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods or take up their names on my lips.5Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.6The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.7I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.8I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.9Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure,10because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful[2] one see decay.11You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
