Psalm 114

English Standard Version

1 When Israel went out from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, (Ge 42:23; Ex 12:37; Ps 81:5)2 Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion. (Ex 15:17; Ex 25:8; Ps 78:68)3 The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back. (Jos 3:13; Ps 77:16)4 The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. (Ex 19:18; Ps 18:7; Ps 29:6)5 What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back? (Hab 3:8)6 O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs?7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, (Ps 96:9)8 who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water. (Nu 20:11; De 8:15; Ps 78:15; Ps 107:35)

1 When Israel came out of Egypt, Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,2 Judah became God’s sanctuary, Israel his dominion.3 The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back;4 the mountains leaped like rams, the hills like lambs.5 Why was it, sea, that you fled? Why, Jordan, did you turn back?6 Why, mountains, did you leap like rams, you hills, like lambs?7 Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,8 who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.
