1 Thessalonians 1

English Standard Version

1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. (Ac 15:22; Ac 17:1; Ro 1:7; 2Co 1:19; 2Th 1:1; 1Pe 5:12)2 We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly[1] mentioning you in our prayers, (Ro 1:8; Ro 1:9; Eph 5:20; 1Th 2:13; 2Ti 1:3)3 remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. (Joh 6:29; Ro 8:25; Ro 15:4; Ga 1:4; Ga 5:6; Col 1:4; 2Th 1:3; 2Th 1:11; 1Ti 1:14; Heb 6:10; Jas 2:22; Re 2:19)4 For we know, brothers[2] loved by God, that he has chosen you, (2Th 2:13; 2Pe 1:10)5 because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. (Ac 20:18; 1Co 2:4; 2Co 6:6; Col 2:2; 1Th 2:10; 2Th 2:14; 2Th 3:7; Heb 2:3)6 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, (Mt 5:12; Ac 13:52; Ac 17:5; 1Co 4:16; 1Co 11:1; Ga 5:22; 1Th 2:14; 2Th 3:7; 2Th 3:9)7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.8 For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. (Ro 1:8; Ro 10:18; Ro 16:19; 2Th 1:4; 2Th 3:1)9 For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, (Joh 17:3; Ac 14:15; 1Co 12:2; Ga 4:8; 1Th 2:1)10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. (Mt 3:7; Ac 1:11; Ac 2:24; Ro 5:9; 1Co 1:7; Col 1:13; 1Th 2:16; 1Th 4:16; 1Th 5:9; 2Th 1:10)

1 Thessalonians 1

New International Version

1 Paul, Silas[1] and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.2 We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.3 We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labour prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.4 For we know, brothers and sisters[2] loved by God, that he has chosen you,5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.8 The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia – your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it,9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead – Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
