Let the Redeemed of the Lord Say So

1 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! (Ps 100:5; Ps 105:1) 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble^[1] (Ps 106:10; Isa 62:12; Isa 63:4) 3 and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. 4 Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; (De 32:10; Ps 107:36; Ps 107:40) 5 hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. 36 And there he lets the hungry dwell, and they establish a city to live in; (Ps 107:4; Ps 107:7) 37 they sow fields and plant vineyards and get a fruitful yield. 38 By his blessing they multiply greatly, and he does not let their livestock diminish. (Ge 12:2; Ge 17:20; Ex 1:7) 39 When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, evil, and sorrow, 40 he pours contempt on princes and makes them wander in trackless wastes; (De 32:10; Job 12:21; Job 12:24) 41 but he raises up the needy out of affliction and makes their families like flocks. 1 Halleluja! Dankt dem HERRN, denn er ist gütig, und seine Gnade bleibt für alle Zeiten bestehen! 2 Das sollen alle sagen, die der HERR erlöst hat, die er aus der Gewalt ihrer Unterdrücker befreit 3 und aus fremden Ländern gesammelt hat, aus Ost und West, aus Nord und Süd^[1]. 4 Die einen irrten umher in der Wüste, auf öden, verlassenen Wegen; sie fanden keinen Ort, wo Menschen wohnten. 5 Hungrig waren sie und von Durst gequält, all ihr Lebenswille schwand dahin^[2]. 6 Da schrien sie zum HERRN in ihrer Not, und er befreite sie aus all ihren Ängsten. 7 Er führte sie auf den richtigen Weg, und so fanden sie einen bewohnten Ort. 8 Nun sollen sie dem HERRN danken für seine Güte und für seine Wunder, die er für die Menschen vollbringt^[3]. 9 Denn er hat den Durstigen erfrischt und den Hungrigen mit Gutem gesättigt.^[4] 10 Andere mussten ihr Leben in Dunkelheit und Finsternis verbringen, von Leid gequält, in Ketten gefesselt, 11 denn sie hatten sich gegen Gottes Reden aufgelehnt und den Rat des Höchsten verächtlich ausgeschlagen. 12 So demütigte er ihr stolzes Herz durch großes Elend; sie kamen zu Fall, und es gab niemand, der ihnen half. 13 Da schrien sie zum HERRN in ihrer Not, und er rettete sie aus all ihren Ängsten. 14 Er führte sie heraus aus Dunkelheit und Finsternis, und ihre Fesseln zerriss er. 15 Nun sollen sie dem HERRN danken für seine Güte und für seine Wunder, die er für die Menschen vollbringt. 16 Denn er zerbrach bronzene Türen, und eiserne Riegel schlug er entzwei. 17 Wieder andere waren so töricht und vermessen, ihr Weg voller Unrecht, ihr Tun voller Schuld, dass sie dadurch Leid und Elend über sich brachten.^[5] 18 Jede Speise war ihnen nun zuwider, sie waren dem Tod schon nahe.^[6] 19 Da schrien sie zum HERRN in ihrer Not, und er rettete sie aus all ihren Ängsten. 20 Er schickte ihnen sein befreiendes Wort und heilte sie, er bewahrte sie vor dem sicheren Tod^[7]. 21 Nun sollen sie dem HERRN danken für seine Güte und für seine Wunder, die er für die Menschen vollbringt. 22 Dankopfer sollen sie darbringen und von Gottes Taten erzählen unter lautem Jubel. 23 Wieder andere befuhren mit Schiffen das Meer und trieben Handel auf weiter See. 24 Sie sahen die machtvollen Taten des HERRN und seine Wunder mitten im Tosen des Wassers^[8]. 25 Er sprach nur ein Wort und ließ einen mächtigen Sturm aufkommen, der die Wogen des Meeres hoch auftürmte. 26 Ihr Schiff wurde gen Himmel geschleudert, dann hinuntergestürzt in die Wellentäler, und sie verloren allen Mut^[9]. 27 Sie taumelten und wankten wie Betrunkene, mit all ihrer Weisheit war es vorbei. 28 Da schrien sie zum HERRN in ihrer Not, und er holte sie aus all ihren Ängsten heraus. 29 Er verwandelte den Sturm in Windstille, die Wellen des Meeres beruhigten sich. 30 Wie froh war man auf dem Schiff, dass sich die Wogen legten und Gott sie den ersehnten Hafen erreichen ließ! 31 Nun sollen sie dem HERRN danken für seine Güte und für seine Wunder, die er für die Menschen vollbringt. 32 Rühmen sollen sie ihn in der Volksversammlung und im Ältestenrat ihn loben. 33 Er verwandelte^[10] Flusslandschaften in trockene Wüsten, Quellgebiete in dürre Steppen. 34 Fruchtbares Land machte er zur Salzwüste wegen der Bosheit derer, die dort wohnten. 35 Dann wieder ließ er in der Wüste Wasserteiche entstehen, in vertrockneten Gegenden sprudelnde Quellen. 36 Dort ließ er Menschen sesshaft werden, die zuvor Hunger gelitten hatten; nun konnten sie dort Städte gründen. 37 Sie besäten Felder, legten Weinberge an und brachten eine reiche Ernte ein. 38 Er segnete sie, und sie wurden sehr zahlreich; auch ließ er ihre Herden immer größer werden. 39 Doch dann verringerte sich die Zahl der Bewohner wieder, Unglück drückte sie nieder, Kummer und Sorge zehrten sie aus. 40 Gott goss seine Verachtung über die einflussreichen Männer und ließ sie umherirren auf öden Wegen ohne Ziel. 41 Die Armen aber entriss er ihrem Elend, ihre Sippen ließ er so zahlreich werden wie Herden auf der Weide. 42 Aufrichtige Menschen sehen dies und freuen sich, alle Bosheit jedoch muss verstummen. 43 Wer weise ist, der achte mit Sorgfalt darauf und lerne zu verstehen, wie vielfältig der HERR seine Gnade erweist!
