Philippians 2

English Standard Version

1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, (Ro 15:30; 2Co 13:14; Col 3:12; 2Th 2:16)2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. (Joh 3:29; Joh 15:11; Ro 12:16)3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. (Ro 12:10; Ga 5:26; Eph 4:2; Eph 5:21; Php 1:17)4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Ro 15:2)5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[1] (Mt 11:29; Ro 15:3)6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,[2] (Joh 1:1; Joh 5:18; Joh 10:33; Joh 14:28; 2Co 4:4)7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[3] being born in the likeness of men. (Isa 42:1; Mt 20:28; Mr 9:12; Joh 1:14; Ro 8:3; 2Co 8:9; 2Co 13:4; Ga 4:4)8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Mt 26:39; Joh 10:18; Ro 5:19; Heb 5:8; Heb 12:2)9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, (Isa 52:13; Isa 53:12; Mt 28:18; Joh 10:17; Ac 2:33; Ac 5:41; Eph 1:21; Heb 1:4; Heb 2:9)10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (Isa 45:23; Ro 14:11; Eph 1:10; Re 5:3; Re 5:13)11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Joh 13:13; Ro 10:9; Ro 14:9; 1Co 12:3)12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, (2Co 10:5; Php 1:5; Php 4:15; Heb 5:9; 1Pe 1:2)13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. (1Co 12:6; 1Co 15:10; 1Ti 2:4; Heb 13:21)14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, (1Ti 2:8; 1Pe 4:9)15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, (De 32:5; Mt 5:14; Mt 5:16; Mt 5:45; Eph 5:1; Tit 2:10; 1Pe 2:12; Jud 1:24)16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. (Ac 5:20; 1Co 1:8; 2Co 1:14; Ga 2:2; Ga 4:11; 1Th 3:5)17 Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. (Ro 15:16; 2Co 12:15; 1Jo 3:16)18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you. (1Co 4:17; 1Th 3:2)20 For I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. (1Co 16:10)21 For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. (1Co 10:24; 2Ti 3:2)22 But you know Timothy’s[4] proven worth, how as a son[5] with a father he has served with me in the gospel. (1Co 4:17; 2Co 2:9; 1Ti 1:2; 2Ti 1:2; 2Ti 3:10)23 I hope therefore to send him just as soon as I see how it will go with me,24 and I trust in the Lord that shortly I myself will come also. (Php 1:25; Phm 1:22)25 I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need, (Php 4:18; Phm 1:2)26 for he has been longing for you all and has been distressed because you heard that he was ill.27 Indeed he was ill, near to death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.28 I am the more eager to send him, therefore, that you may rejoice at seeing him again, and that I may be less anxious.29 So receive him in the Lord with all joy, and honor such men, (Ro 16:2; 1Co 16:18; 1Th 5:12; 1Ti 5:17)30 for he nearly died[6] for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was lacking in your service to me. (Ac 20:24; 1Co 16:17; Php 4:10)

Philippians 2

King James Version

1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
