Des Königs Ahas Verzagtheit und Unglaube – Verheißung des Immanuel

1 Und es geschah in den Tagen des Ahas, des Sohnes Jotams, des Sohnes Usijas, des Königs von Juda, da zog Rezin, der König von Aram, und Pekach, der Sohn des Remalja, der König von Israel, nach Jerusalem hinauf zum Kampf gegen es; aber er konnte nicht gegen es kämpfen. 2 Als nun dem Haus David gemeldet wurde: Aram hat sich auf ⟨dem Gebiet von⟩ Ephraim niedergelassen, da bebte sein Herz und das Herz seines Volkes, wie die Bäume des Waldes vor dem Wind beben. 3 Der HERR aber sprach zu Jesaja: Geh doch hinaus, Ahas entgegen, du und dein Sohn Schear-Jaschub^[1], an das Ende der Wasserleitung des oberen Teiches, zur Straße des Walkerfeldes, (2Kön 16,1; 2Kön 18,17; Jes 22,10; Jes 36,2)

5 Weil Aram Böses gegen dich beschlossen hat ⟨ebenso wie⟩ Ephraim und der Sohn des Remalja, indem sie sagen: 6 »Lasst uns gegen Juda hinaufziehen und ihm Grauen einjagen^[2] und es für uns erobern^[3] und dort den Sohn des Tabeal zum König machen!«, 7 so spricht der Herr, HERR: Es wird nicht zustande kommen und nicht geschehen. (Jes 8,10) 8 Denn das Haupt von Aram ist Damaskus, und das Haupt von Damaskus ist Rezin – und noch 65 Jahre, dann ist Ephraim zerschlagen, ⟨dann ist es⟩ kein Volk ⟨mehr⟩ –, (2Kön 17,23; Hes 27,18; Hos 13,1) 9 und das Haupt von Ephraim ist Samaria und das Haupt von Samaria ist der Sohn des Remalja. 12 Ahas aber sagte: Ich will nicht fordern und will den HERRN nicht auf die Probe stellen. 13 Da sprach er^[6]: Hört doch, Haus David! Ist es euch zu wenig, Menschen zu ermüden, dass ihr auch meinen Gott ermüdet? (Jes 43,24) 14 Darum wird der Herr selbst euch ein Zeichen geben: Siehe, die Jungfrau^[7] wird schwanger werden und^[8] einen Sohn gebären und wird seinen Namen Immanuel^[9] nennen. 15 Rahm^[10] und Honig wird er essen, bis er weiß, das Böse zu verwerfen und das Gute zu wählen. (Jes 7,22) 16 Denn ehe der Junge weiß, das Böse zu verwerfen und das Gute zu wählen, wird das Land verlassen sein, vor dessen beiden Königen dir graut. (2Kön 15,29; 2Kön 16,9; Jes 8,4) 17 Der HERR wird über dich, über dein Volk und über das Haus deines Vaters Tage kommen lassen, wie sie nicht gekommen sind seit dem Tag, an dem Ephraim sich von Juda getrennt hat^[11]: den König von Assur. 18 Und es wird geschehen an jenem Tag, da wird der HERR die Fliege, die am Ende der Ströme^[12] Ägyptens, und die Biene, die im Land Assur ist, herbeipfeifen. (Ps 105,31; Jes 5,26) 19 Dann werden sie kommen und sich alle niederlassen in den Tälern der Schluchten und in den Spalten der Felsen, in allen Dornsträuchern und an allen Tränkplätzen. 20 An jenem Tag wird der Herr durch das Schermesser, das auf der anderen Seite des Stromes angeheuert wurde, ⟨nämlich⟩ durch den König von Assur, das Haupt scheren und das Haar der Beine^[13], ja, auch den Bart wird es wegnehmen. 21 An jenem Tag wird es geschehen, da wird einer^[14] eine junge Kuh und zwei Schafe^[15] am Leben erhalten. 22 Und es wird geschehen, wegen der Menge der Milch, die sie geben, wird er Rahm^[16] essen, ja, Rahm und Honig wird jeder essen, der im Land übrig geblieben ist. 23 Und es wird an jenem Tag geschehen, dass jeder Ort, wo tausend Weinstöcke ⟨im Wert⟩ von tausend Silber⟨schekeln⟩ stehen, den Dornen und Disteln gehört. (Hl 8,11; Jes 32,13) 24 ⟨Nur⟩ mit Pfeilen und Bogen wird man dorthin kommen, denn zu Dornen und Disteln wird das ganze Land werden. (1Mo 3,18) 25 Und ⟨auf⟩ alle Berge, die mit der Hacke behackt werden, dahin wirst du nicht kommen aus Furcht vor Dornen und Disteln. Und sie werden ein Ort sein, an den man Rinder treibt und der von Schafen zertreten wird. (Jes 5,17)

The sign of Immanuel

1 Ahaz was king of Judah. Rezin was king of Aram. And Pekah was king of Israel. Rezin and Pekah marched up to fight against Jerusalem. But they couldn’t overpower it. Ahaz was the son of Jotham and the grandson of Uzziah. Pekah was the son of Remaliah. 2 The royal family of Ahaz was told, ‘The army of Aram has joined forces with Ephraim’s army.’ So the hearts of Ahaz and his people trembled with fear. They shook just as trees in the forest shake when the wind blows through them. 3 The LORD said to Isaiah, ‘Go out and see Ahaz. Take your son Shear-Jashub with you. Meet Ahaz at the end of the channel that brings water from the Upper Pool. It is on the road to the Washerman’s Field. 4 Tell Ahaz, “Be careful. Stay calm. Do not be afraid. Do not lose hope because of the great anger of Rezin, Aram and the son of Remaliah. After all, they are nothing but two pieces of smoking firewood. 5 Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah’s son have planned to destroy you. They said, 6 ‘Let’s march into Judah and attack it. Let’s tear everything down. Then we can share the land among ourselves. And we can make Tabeel’s son king over it.’ 7 But I am the LORD and King. I say, ‘ “ ‘That will not happen. It will not take place. 8 The capital of Aram is Damascus. And the ruler of Damascus is only Rezin. Do not worry about the people of Ephraim. They will be too crushed to be considered a people. That will happen before 65 years are over. 9 The capital of Ephraim is Samaria. And the ruler of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son. If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.’ ” ’ 10 The LORD spoke to Ahaz through Isaiah again. He said, 11 ‘I am the LORD your God. Ask me to give you a sign. It can be anything in the deepest grave or in the highest heaven.’ 12 But Ahaz said, ‘I won’t ask. I won’t test the LORD.’ 13 Then Isaiah said, ‘Listen, you members of the royal family of David! Isn’t it enough for you to test the patience of human beings? Are you also going to test the patience of my God? 14 The Lord himself will give you a sign. The virgin is going to have a baby. She will give birth to a son. And he will be called Immanuel. 15 He will still be very young when he can decide between right and wrong. 16 Even before then, the lands of the two kings you fear will be ruined. 17 The LORD will also bring the king of Assyria against you. And he will bring him against your people and the whole royal family. That will be a time of trouble. It will be unlike any since the people of Ephraim broke away from Judah.’

The Lord uses Assyria to judge Judah

18 At that time the LORD will whistle for the Egyptians. They will come like flies from the River Nile in Egypt. He will also whistle for the Assyrians. They will come from their country like bees. 19 All of them will come and camp in the deep valleys. They will camp in caves in the rocks. And they’ll camp near bushes and water holes. 20 At that time the Lord will use the Assyrians to punish you. Ahaz had hired them earlier from east of the River Euphrates. Now their king will be like a razor in the Lord’s hand. He will shave the hair from your head and private parts. He will also shave off your beards. 21 At that time a person may only be able to keep alive one young cow and two goats. 22 But they will give plenty of milk to live on. In fact, everyone left in the land will only have milk curds and honey to eat. 23 The land used to have vineyards with 1,000 vines worth 12 kilograms of silver. But soon the whole land will be covered with thorns and bushes. 24 Hunters will go there with bows and arrows. That’s because it will be covered with bushes and thorns. 25 All the hills used to be ploughed with hoes. But you won’t go there anymore. That’s because you will be afraid of the thorns and bushes. Cattle will be turned loose on those hills. Sheep will also run there.
