1Sométase toda alma a las autoridades gobernantes, porque no hay autoridad sino de Dios; y las que existen, por Dios son instituidas.2De manera que el que resiste a la autoridad, resiste al decreto de Dios, y los que resisten acarrean juicio para sí mismos.3Porque los gobernantes no son de temer para el que obra el bien, sino para el que obra el mal. ¿Quieres, pues, no temer a la autoridad? Haz lo bueno, y tendrás aprobación de ello,4porque es un servidor de Dios para tu bien. Pero si haces lo malo, teme, porque no en vano lleva la espada, pues es servidor de Dios, vengador para castigo al que practica lo malo.5Por tanto, es necesario someterse, no sólo por causa del castigo, sino también por causa de la conciencia;6y también por esto pagáis impuestos: porque son servidores de Dios que se dedican a esto mismo.7Pagad a todos las deudas: al que tributo, tributo; al que impuesto, impuesto; al que respeto, respeto; al que honra, honra.8No debáis a nadie nada, sino el amaros unos a otros, porque el que ama al prójimo, ha cumplido la ley.9Porque: No adulterarás; no matarás; no hurtarás; no codiciarás; y cualquier otro mandamiento, se resume en esta declaración: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.10El amor no hace mal al prójimo. Así que el cumplimento de la ley es el amor.11Y esto añado: conociendo el tiempo, que es ya hora de que seáis levantados del sueño, porque ahora la salvación está más cerca de nosotros que cuando creímos.12La noche pasó, y el día se ha acercado; desechemos las obras de las tinieblas, y vistámonos las armas de la luz.13Andemos decentemente, como de día, no en orgías y borracheras, no en impurezas sexuales e indecencias, no en contienda y envidia.14Sino vestíos del Señor Jesús, el Mesías, y no proveáis para satisfacer los malos deseos de la carne.

Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:4For he is the minister of God to thee for good.
