Jacob en casa de Labán

1 Jacob entonces prosiguió con presteza su viaje, y fue a tierra de los hijos de Oriente. 2 Y miró, y en campo abierto vio un pozo y tres rebaños de ovejas sesteando junto a él, porque de aquel pozo solían abrevar a los rebaños, y una gran piedra tapaba la boca del pozo. 3 Allí se juntaban todos los rebaños, y rodando la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, abrevaban a las ovejas, tras de lo cual devolvían la piedra a su lugar, sobre la boca del pozo. 4 Y Jacob les dijo: Hermanos, ¿de dónde sois? Y respondieron: Somos de Harán. 5 Les preguntó: ¿Conocéis a Labán, hijo de Nacor? Contestaron: Lo conocemos. 6 Y les dijo: ¿Está en paz? Y ellos dijeron: En paz, y he aquí su hija Raquel viene con el rebaño. 7 Él dijo: Mirad, todavía es pleno día. Aún no es tiempo de recoger el ganado, abrevad a las ovejas y dejadlas pastar. 8 Pero ellos dijeron: No podemos hasta que se reúnan todos los rebaños. Entonces rodamos la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo y abrevamos las ovejas. 9 Estaba él aún hablando con ellos, cuando llegó Raquel con el rebaño de su padre, pues ella era la pastora. 10 Y sucedió que cuando Jacob vio a Raquel hija de Labán, hermano de su madre, y al rebaño de Labán, hermano de su madre, Jacob se acercó y rodó la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo y abrevó el ganado de Labán, el hermano de su madre. 11 Después Jacob besó a Raquel, y alzó su voz y lloró. 12 Y Jacob le declaró a Raquel que él era hermano de su padre e hijo de Rebeca. Y ella corrió y lo declaró a su padre. 13 Aconteció que cuando Labán oyó la noticia acerca de Jacob, el hijo de su hermana, corrió a su encuentro, lo abrazó y lo besó efusivamente, y lo llevó a su casa. Y él contó a Labán todas estas cosas. 14 Y Labán le dijo: ¡Ciertamente hueso mío y carne mía eres! Y habitó con él los días de un mes.

Lea y Raquel

15 Entonces Labán dijo a Jacob: ¿Es que por ser mi pariente, me has de servir de balde? Indícame cuál será tu salario. 16 Y Labán tenía dos hijas: el nombre de la mayor era Lea, y el nombre de la menor, Raquel. 17 Y los ojos de Lea eran alicaídos, en tanto que Raquel era de hermosa apariencia y bello semblante. 18 Y Jacob se había enamorado de Raquel, de modo que dijo: Te serviré siete años por Raquel, tu hija menor. 19 Y respondió Labán: Mejor que te la dé a ti que dársela a otro hombre. Quédate conmigo. 20 Así sirvió Jacob por Raquel siete años y le parecieron como unos días, porque la amaba. 21 Y dijo Jacob a Labán: Dame mi mujer, porque mi plazo se ha cumplido y deseo llegarme a ella. 22 Entonces reunió Labán a todos los varones de aquel lugar e hizo banquete. 23 Pero sucedió que al anochecer tomó a su hija Lea y se la trajo, y él se llegó a ella. 24 (Y Labán había entregado su sierva Zilpa a su hija Lea como criada.) 25 Y llegada la mañana, ¡he aquí era Lea! Y él dijo a Labán: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho conmigo? ¿No te serví por Raquel? ¿Por qué me has engañado? 26 Y Labán dijo: No se hace así en nuestro lugar, de dar la más joven antes que la primogénita. 27 Completa la semana de ésta y se te dará también la otra, por la labor que harás para mí otros siete años. 28 Y Jacob hizo así, y completó la semana de aquélla. Y le dio por mujer a su hija Raquel. 29 Y a su hija Raquel dio Labán su sierva Bilha, como criada suya. 30 Así se llegó también a Raquel, y amó más a Raquel que a Lea, y le sirvió aún otros siete años. 31 Viendo YHVH que Lea era menospreciada, abrió su matriz, en tanto que Raquel era estéril. 32 Y concibió Lea y dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Rubén, pues dijo: Ha visto YHVH mi aflicción, y ahora me amará mi marido. 33 Y concibió de nuevo, y dio a luz un hijo y dijo: Ha oído YHVH que era menospreciada, y me ha dado también a éste. Y llamó su nombre Simeón. 34 Y concibió otra vez, y dio a luz un hijo y dijo: Esta vez mi marido se sentirá ligado a mí, pues le he dado a luz tres hijos, por tanto, llamó su nombre Leví. 35 Y concibió una vez más, dio a luz un hijo y dijo: Esta vez alabaré a YHVH. Por tanto llamó su nombre Judá, y dejó de concebir.

1 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east. 2 And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well' mouth. 3 And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well' mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well' mouth in his place. 4 And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran are we. 5 And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him . 6 And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep. 7 And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them . 8 And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well' mouth; then we water the sheep. 9 And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father' sheep: for she kept them. 10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother' brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother' brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well' mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother' brother. 11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept. 12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father' brother, and that he was Rebekah' son: and she ran and told her father. 13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister' son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things. 14 And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month. 15 And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be ? 16 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. 17 Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured. 18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter. 19 And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me. 20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her. 21 And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her. 22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast. 23 And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her. 24 And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid. 25 And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me? 26 And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. 27 Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years. 28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also. 29 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid. 30 And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years. 31 And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren. 32 And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me. 33 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon. 34 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi. 35 And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
