1Después de esto, aconteció que Absalón se hizo de carros y caballos, y cincuenta hombres que corrían delante de él.2Y Absalón se levantaba temprano y se situaba a un lado del camino junto a la puerta, y a cualquiera que tenía un pleito y acudía ante el rey para juicio, Absalón lo llamaba y le decía: ¿De qué ciudad eres? Y él decía: Tu siervo es de una de las tribus de Israel.3Entonces Absalón le decía: Mira, tu causa es buena y justa, pero no tienes quien escuche de parte del rey.4Y decía Absalón: ¡Quién me pondría por juez en la tierra!, pues cada hombre que tuviera un pleito o una causa acudiría ante mí y yo le haría justicia.5Y acontecía que cuando alguien se acercaba para inclinarse a él, él extendía su mano, lo levantaba y lo besaba.6Así obraba Absalón con todo Israel cuando acudían al rey para juicio; y así robaba Absalón el corazón de los hombres de Israel.7Al cabo de cuatro años, aconteció que Absalón dijo al rey: Te ruego que me permitas ir a cumplir el juramento que he jurado a YHVH en Hebrón.8Porque cuando habitaba en Gesur, en Aram, tu siervo juró diciendo: Si YHVH ciertamente me hace volver a Jerusalem, entonces serviré a YHVH.9Y el rey le dijo: Ve en paz. Así que se levantó y se fue a Hebrón.10Pero Absalón envió espías por todas las tribus de Israel, diciendo: Al oír el sonido del shofar, diréis: ¡Absalón reina en Hebrón!11Y con Absalón habían salido de Jerusalem doscientos hombres como invitados, que en su ingenuidad iban sin saber nada.12Y mientras ofrecía los sacrificios, Absalón envió por Ahitofel gilonita, consejero de David, de su ciudad de Guilo. Y la conspiración llegó a ser fuerte, pues el pueblo iba aumentando a favor de Absalón.13Entonces un mensajero fue a David, diciendo: ¡Los corazones de los hombres de Israel se van tras Absalón!14Y David dijo a todos sus siervos que estaban con él en Jerusalem: ¡Levantaos y huyamos, porque no tendremos escapatoria delante de Absalón! ¡Daos prisa en marchar, no sea que se apresure, nos alcance y eche el mal sobre nosotros, atacando la ciudad a filo de espada!15Y los siervos del rey contestaron al rey: ¡He aquí, tus siervos están listos para todo lo que nuestro señor el rey disponga!16Salió entonces el rey con toda su casa tras él. Pero el rey dejó a diez mujeres concubinas para cuidar la casa.17Salió, pues, el rey con todo el pueblo tras él, y se detuvieron en Bet-merhak.18Y todos sus siervos pasaron a su lado: Todos los cereteos y todos los peleteos, así como todos los geteos, seiscientos hombres que habían llegado a pie desde Gat pasaron por delante del rey.19Entonces el rey dijo a Itai geteo: ¿Por qué vienes tú también con nosotros? Vuelve y quédate con el rey, pues tú eres un extranjero, y también un desterrado de tu lugar.20Llegaste ayer, ¿y hoy te haré vagar con nosotros mientras voy a donde voy? Vuelve y haz volver a tus hermanos, y sean contigo la misericordia y la verdad.21Pero Itai respondió al rey y dijo: ¡Vive YHVH y vive mi señor el rey que dondequiera esté mi señor el rey, sea para muerte o para vida, ciertamente allí estará tu siervo!22Y David respondió a Itai: ¡Anda y pasa adelante! E Itai geteo pasó con todos sus hombres y con todos los niños que estaban con él.23Y todo el país lloraba a gran voz cuando todo el pueblo estaba cruzando, también el rey cruzó el torrente de Cedrón, con toda la gente que cruzaba rumbo al camino del desierto.24Y he aquí, también cruzó Sadoc, y todos los levitas que estaban con él, cargando el Arca del Pacto de Dios; y ellos asentaron el Arca de Dios hasta que todo el pueblo terminó de salir de la ciudad. Entonces subió Abiatar.25Luego el rey dijo a Sadoc: Haz volver el Arca de Dios a la ciudad. Si he hallado gracia ante los ojos de YHVH, Él me hará volver, y me permitirá verla a ella y a su morada.26Y si Él dijera: ¡No me complazco en ti!, heme aquí, que haga de mí lo que bien parezca ante sus ojos.27Dijo además el rey al sacerdote Sadoc: ¿No eres tú el vidente? Vuelve a la ciudad en paz, y vuestros dos hijos con vosotros: tu hijo Ahimaas, y Jonatán ben Abiatar.28Mirad, yo me detendré en los vados del desierto hasta que venga palabra de vuestra parte para informarme.29Por lo que Sadoc y Abiatar llevaron el Arca de Dios de vuelta a Jerusalem, y se quedaron allí.30Y David subió la cuesta de los Olivos; y la subió llorando, y tenía la cabeza cubierta e iba descalzo. Y todo el pueblo que estaba con él había cubierto cada uno su cabeza y lloraban mientras subían.31Y uno habló a David diciendo: Ahitofel está entre los que conspiraron con Absalón. Entonces David exclamó: ¡Oh YHVH, te ruego que entorpezcas el consejo de Ahitofel!32Y ocurrió que cuando David llegó a la cumbre del monte donde solía postrarse ante ’Elohim, he aquí Husai arquita le salió al encuentro con la túnica rasgada y tierra sobre su cabeza.33Y David le dijo: Si pasas conmigo serás una carga para mí,34pero si vuelves a la ciudad y dices a Absalón: ¡Oh rey!, yo seré tu siervo, pues así como fui siervo de tu padre, ahora también soy siervo tuyo; entonces frustrarás a mi favor el consejo de Ahitofel.35¿Acaso no estarán allí contigo los sacerdotes Sadoc y Abiatar? Por tanto, toda palabra que oigáis en la casa del rey la declararás a los sacerdotes Sadoc y Abiatar.36He aquí están con ellos sus dos hijos: Ahimaas, el de Sadoc, y Jonatán, el de Abiatar. Por mano de ellos me haréis llegar todo lo que oigáis.37Así Husai, amigo de David, llegó a la ciudad cuando Absalón entraba en Jerusalem.

1And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.2And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so , that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.3And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man deputed of the king to hear thee.4Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!5And it was so , that when any man came nigh to him to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him.6And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.7And it came to pass after forty years, that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto the LORD, in Hebron.8For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the LORD shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.9And the king said unto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron.10But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron.11And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were called; and they went in their simplicity, and they knew not any thing.12And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David' counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.13And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.14And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.15And the king' servants said unto the king, Behold, thy servants are ready to do whatsoever my lord the king shall appoint.16And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.17And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and tarried in a place that was far off.18And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men which came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.19Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with us? return to thy place, and abide with the king: for thou art a stranger, and also an exile.20Whereas thou camest but yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with thee.21And Ittai answered the king, and said, As the LORD liveth, and as my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will thy servant be.22And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him.23And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.24And lo Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.25And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and shew me both it, and his habitation:26But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.27The king said also unto Zadok the priest, Art not thou a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.28See, I will tarry in the plain of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me.29Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem: and they tarried there.30And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.31And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.32And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount , where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:33Unto whom David said, If thou passest on with me, then thou shalt be a burden unto me:34But if thou return to the city, and say unto Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king; as I have been thy father' servant hitherto, so will I now also be thy servant: then mayest thou for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel.35And hast thou not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? therefore it shall be, that what thing soever thou shalt hear out of the king' house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.36Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok' son , and Jonathan Abiathar' son ; and by them ye shall send unto me every thing that ye can hear.37So Hushai David' friend came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.
