Como un ladrón

1 Pero acerca de los tiempos y las ocasiones, hermanos, no tenéis necesidad de que os escriba. 2 Porque vosotros sabéis exactamente que el día del Señor viene así como un ladrón por la noche. 3 Cuando digan: ¡Paz y seguridad!, entonces, como el dolor a la que está de parto, vendrá sobre ellos destrucción repentina, y no escaparán de ningún modo. 4 Pero vosotros, hermanos, no estáis en tinieblas para que aquel día os sorprenda como un ladrón, 5 porque todos vosotros sois hijos de luz, e hijos del día; no somos de la noche ni de las tinieblas. 6 No durmamos, pues, como los demás, sino velemos y seamos sobrios. 7 Porque los que duermen, de noche duermen, y los que se emborrachan, de noche se emborrachan. 8 Pero nosotros, que somos del día, seamos sobrios, vistiéndonos la coraza de fe y amor, y como yelmo la esperanza de salvación. 9 Porque Dios no nos ha destinado para la ira, sino para alcanzar la salvación por medio de nuestro Señor Jesús, el Mesías, 10 quien murió por nosotros, para que, ya sea que estemos despiertos o dormidos, vivamos juntamente con Él. 11 Por lo cual, exhortaos los unos a los otros, y edificaos el uno al otro, tal como también hacéis.

Exhortaciones finales

12 Y os instamos, hermanos, a que respetéis a los que trabajan entre vosotros, y tienen cuidado de vosotros en el Señor, y os amonestan; 13 que los tengáis en alta y amorosa estima a causa de su obra. Tened paz los unos con los otros. 14 Hermanos, también os exhortamos para que amonestéis a los desordenados, animéis a los desanimados, seáis apoyo de los débiles, pacientes con todos. 15 Mirad que ninguno devuelva a otro mal por mal, sino procurad siempre lo bueno los unos para con los otros, y para con todos. 16 ¡Regocijaos siempre! 17 Orad sin cesar. 18 Dad gracias en todo, porque esta es la voluntad de Dios para vosotros en Jesús el Mesías. 19 No apaguéis al Espíritu. 20 No menospreciéis las profecías, 21 sino examinadlo todo; retened lo bueno. 22 Absteneos de toda especie de mal. 23 Y el mismo Dios de paz os santifique completamente, y todo vuestro ser: espíritu, alma y cuerpo, sea guardado irreprensible en la venida de Jesús el Mesías, nuestro Señor. 24 Fiel es el que os llama, el cual también lo hará.

Despedida

25 Hermanos, orad por nosotros. 26 Saludad a todos los hermanos con ósculo santo. 27 Os conjuro por el Señor que esta epístola sea leída a todos los hermanos. 28 La gracia de nuestro Señor Jesús, el Mesías, sea con vosotros.

1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. 11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. 12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; 13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves. 14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. 15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. 16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. 25 Brethren, pray for us. 26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. 27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren. 28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
