El ministerio en Tesalónica

1 Pues vosotros mismos sabéis, hermanos, que nuestra visita a vosotros no fue en vano; 2 sino que habiendo sufrido y habiendo sido maltratados en Filipos, como sabéis, tuvimos confianza en nuestro Dios para proclamaros el evangelio de Dios en medio de mucha oposición. 3 Porque nuestra exhortación no procede del error, ni de la impureza, ni es con engaño, 4 sino que, según hemos sido aprobados por Dios para que se nos confiara el evangelio, así hablamos; no como agradando a los hombres, sino a Dios, que examina nuestros corazones. 5 Porque sabéis que nunca fuimos con palabra de adulación, ni encubrimos avaricia, Dios es testigo; 6 ni buscamos gloria de hombres; ni de vosotros ni de otros, 7 pudiendo haber hecho sentir nuestro peso como apóstoles del Mesías; sino que fuimos tiernos en medio de vosotros, como cuando la nodriza acaricia a sus propios hijos; 8 teniendo tanto afecto por vosotros, que queríamos impartiros no sólo el evangelio de Dios, sino también nuestras propias vidas, porque llegasteis a sernos muy amados. 9 Porque os acordáis, hermanos, de nuestra fatiga y arduo trabajo, que trabajando de noche y de día, a fin de no ser gravosos a ninguno de vosotros, os proclamamos el evangelio de Dios. 10 Vosotros sois testigos, y Dios, de cuán santa, justa, e intachablemente nos comportamos con vosotros los que creéis; 11 así como sabéis de qué modo tratamos a cada uno de vosotros; como un padre a sus propios hijos 12 os exhortábamos y consolábamos, y os insistíamos que anduvierais como es digno de Dios, que os llama a su propio reino y gloria. 13 Y por esto damos gracias sin cesar a Dios, porque habiendo recibido de nosotros la palabra del mensaje de Dios, la aceptasteis, no como palabra de hombres, sino tal como es en verdad, palabra de Dios, que obra también en vosotros que creéis. 14 Porque vosotros, hermanos, llegasteis a ser imitadores de las iglesias de Dios en Jesús el Mesías que están en Judea; pues también vosotros padecisteis las mismas cosas a manos de vuestros propios compatriotas, como también ellos de los judíos; 15 los cuales no sólo dieron muerte al Señor Jesús y a los profetas, sino que a nosotros nos expulsaron, y no agradan a Dios, y se oponen a todos los hombres, 16 prohibiéndonos hablar a los gentiles para que sean salvos, de manera que siempre colman la medida de sus pecados, hasta que les sobrevino la ira hasta el extremo.

Deseo de visitar a los tesalonicenses

17 Y nosotros, hermanos, que fuimos separados de vosotros por un poco de tiempo, de presencia, no de corazón, nos esforzamos con mayor diligencia para ver vuestro rostro, con mucho deseo. 18 Por lo cual, quisimos ir a vosotros, ciertamente yo, Pablo, y más de una vez; pero Satanás nos estorbó. 19 Porque ¿cuál es nuestra esperanza, o regocijo, o corona en que nos gloriamos? ¿No lo sois vosotros mismos delante de nuestro Señor Jesús al tiempo de su advenimiento? 20 Vosotros ciertamente sois nuestra gloria y nuestro regocijo.

1 For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain: 2 But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention. 3 For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: 4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts. 5 For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness: 6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. 7 But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: 8 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. 9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God. 10 Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe: 11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, 12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. 13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. 14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews: 15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men: 16 Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost. 17 But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire. 18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us. 19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? 20 For ye are our glory and joy.
