1Fueron entonces los hombres de Quiriat-jearim e hicieron subir el Arca de YHVH a la serranía, y la colocaron en casa de Abinadab, y consagraron a Eleazar su hijo para que guardara el Arca de YHVH.2Y desde el día en que el Arca quedó en Quiriat-jearim pasaron muchos días (llegaron a ser veinte años), y toda la casa de Israel suspiraba por YHVH.3Y habló Samuel a toda la casa de Israel, diciendo: Si os volvéis a YHVH con todo vuestro corazón, quitad de en medio vuestro a los dioses extraños y a Astarot, y preparad vuestro corazón para YHVH. Servidle sólo a Él, y Él os librará de mano de los filisteos.4Y los hijos de Israel quitaron a los baales y a Astarot, y sirvieron sólo a YHVH.5Luego dijo Samuel: Reunid a todo Israel en Mizpa, y yo oraré por vosotros a YHVH.6Y se reunieron en Mizpa, y sacaron agua y la derramaron delante de YHVH, y ayunaron aquel día allí, y dijeron: ¡Hemos pecado contra YHVH! Y Samuel juzgó a los hijos de Israel en Mizpa.7Cuando los filisteos oyeron que los hijos de Israel se habían reunido en Mizpa, los príncipes de los filisteos subieron contra Israel. Al oír esto, los hijos de Israel tuvieron temor de los filisteos.8Y los hijos de Israel dijeron a Samuel: No ceses de clamar por nosotros a YHVH nuestro Dios, que nos salve de mano de los filisteos.9Y tomó Samuel un corderito lechal y lo ofreció entero en holocausto a YHVH. Y clamó Samuel a YHVH por Israel, y YHVH lo escuchó.10Y aconteció que mientras Samuel hacía subir el holocausto, los filisteos se acercaron para combatir a Israel; pero YHVH tronó aquel día con grande estruendo sobre los filisteos y los desbarató, y fueron derrotados delante de Israel.11Y los hombres de Israel salieron de Mizpa y persiguieron a los filisteos y los fueron acuchillando hasta más abajo de Bet-car.12Luego Samuel tomó una piedra y la asentó entre Mizpa y Sen, y le puso por nombre Eben-ezer, diciendo: Hasta aquí nos ayudó YHVH.13Así fueron humillados los filisteos, y no volvieron a entrar más en el territorio de Israel; y la mano de YHVH estuvo contra los filisteos todos los días de Samuel.14Y fueron restituidas a Israel las ciudades que los filisteos le habían tomado, desde Ecrón hasta Gat; e Israel libró su territorio de mano de los filisteos, y también hubo paz entre Israel y el amorreo.15Samuel juzgó a Israel todos los días de su vida;16y de año en año hacía un recorrido por Bet-’El, Gilgal y Mizpa, y juzgaba a Israel en todos esos lugares.17Después regresaba a Ramá, pues allí estaba su casa, y allí también juzgaba a Israel, y allí edificó un altar a YHVH.

1And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.2And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.3And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.4Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.5And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.6And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.7And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it , they were afraid of the Philistines.8And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.9And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.10And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.11And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar.12Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.13So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.14And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.15And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.16And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.17And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
