Les artisans se mettent au travail

1 Betsaléel et Oholiab et tous les hommes habiles que l’Eternel avait doués d’habileté, d’intelligence et de compétence pour exécuter tous les ouvrages à réaliser pour le sanctuaire, exécutèrent tout conformément aux ordres de l’Eternel. 2 Moïse fit venir Betsaléel et Oholiab et tous les hommes habiles que l’Eternel avait doués d’habileté, et tous ceux dont le cœur était disposé à exécuter les travaux. 3 Ils reçurent de Moïse toutes les contributions que les Israélites avaient apportées pour exécuter les travaux nécessaires à la construction du sanctuaire. Et chaque matin, on continuait à apporter des offrandes volontaires à Moïse. 4 Alors tous les artisans habiles qui exécutaient tous les ouvrages du sanctuaire, interrompirent l’un après l’autre leur travail 5 et vinrent dire à Moïse: Le peuple en apporte plus qu’il ne faut pour exécuter l’ouvrage que l’Eternel a commandé de faire. 6 Là-dessus, Moïse fit passer dans le camp le mot d’ordre suivant: « Que plus personne, ni homme, ni femme, ne prépare d’offrande pour le sanctuaire. » Le peuple cessa donc d’en apporter, 7 car les matériaux étaient en quantité suffisante pour l’ensemble des travaux à réaliser. Il y en avait même en surplus.

Les tentures

8 Ainsi les artisans habiles qui étaient à l’ouvrage firent le tabernacle avec dix tentures de fin lin retors, de pourpre violette ou écarlate et de rouge éclatant ornées de chérubins, dans les règles de l’art.^[1] (Ex 26:1) 9 Chaque tenture avait quatorze mètres de long et deux mètres de large. Elles étaient toutes identiques. 10 Cinq de ces tentures furent cousues l’une à l’autre, et l’on fit de même avec les cinq autres. 11 Sur le bord de la dernière tenture de chaque assemblage, on fixa des cordons de pourpre violette. 12 Il y en avait cinquante à l’extrémité de chacun des deux assemblages et les cordons se correspondaient l’un à l’autre. 13 On fit aussi cinquante agrafes d’or au moyen desquelles on assembla les deux séries de tentures, de sorte que le tabernacle forma un tout. 14 On confectionna aussi onze tentures de poil de chèvre pour recouvrir le tabernacle comme d’une tente. 15 Ces tentures avaient quinze mètres de long et deux mètres de large. Elles étaient toutes identiques. 16 On les assembla cinq d’une part et six de l’autre. 17 On fixa cinquante cordons sur le bord de la dernière tenture de chaque assemblage. 18 On fabriqua cinquante agrafes de bronze pour assembler la tente afin qu’elle forme un tout. 19 Ensuite, on fit pour la tente une couverture de peaux de béliers teintes en rouge et une couverture de peaux de dauphins par-dessus.

L’armature

20 On fit aussi des cadres en bois d’acacia, posés à la verticale, pour le tabernacle. 21 Chaque cadre avait cinq mètres de long et soixante-quinze centimètres de large 22 et était muni de deux tenons parallèles. On fit ainsi pour tous les cadres du tabernacle. 23 On fit vingt cadres pour le côté sud du tabernacle. 24 Pour chacun d’eux, on disposa deux socles d’argent, un pour chaque tenon, soit quarante socles pour les vingt cadres. 25 On fit de même pour le côté nord du tabernacle: vingt cadres 26 et quarante socles d’argent, deux pour chaque cadre. 27 Pour l’arrière du tabernacle, tourné vers l’ouest, on fit six cadres, 28 plus deux cadres comme contreforts des angles arrières du tabernacle. 29 Chacun était jumelé avec l’un des cadres des extrémités, depuis le bas, et bien lié avec lui jusqu’à son sommet par un seul anneau; c’est ainsi qu’on les fit tous deux pour les deux angles. 30 Il y avait donc en tout huit cadres et seize socles d’argent, deux pour chaque cadre. 31 On fit cinq traverses de bois d’acacia pour les cadres d’un côté du tabernacle, 32 cinq traverses pour l’autre côté, et cinq pour le fond à l’ouest. 33 Ils firent la traverse médiane qui passait au milieu des cadres, d’une extrémité à l’autre du tabernacle. 34 On plaqua ces cadres d’or et l’on fabriqua des anneaux d’or pour recevoir les traverses que l’on plaqua également d’or.

Le voile et le rideau

35 On fit le voile de pourpre violette et écarlate, de rouge éclatant et de fin lin retors, en l’ornant de chérubins, dans les règles de l’art. 36 Pour le suspendre, on tailla quatre piliers d’acacia que l’on plaqua d’or; ils étaient munis de crochets d’or et reposaient sur quatre socles d’argent. 37 On confectionna pour l’entrée de la tente un rideau de pourpre violette et écarlate, de rouge éclatant et de fin lin retors, en ouvrage de broderie. 38 On fit, pour l’y suspendre, cinq piliers avec leurs crochets; on plaqua d’or leurs chapiteaux et leurs tringles; leurs cinq socles étaient en bronze.

1 “Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman in whom the Lord has put skill and intelligence to know how to do any work in the construction of the sanctuary shall work in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded.” (Ex 28:3; Ex 31:6; Ex 35:10; Ex 35:25)

2 And Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman in whose mind the Lord had put skill, everyone whose heart stirred him up to come to do the work. (Ex 25:2) 3 And they received from Moses all the contribution that the people of Israel had brought for doing the work on the sanctuary. They still kept bringing him freewill offerings every morning, (Ex 35:24; Ex 35:29) 4 so that all the craftsmen who were doing every sort of task on the sanctuary came, each from the task that he was doing, 5 and said to Moses, “The people bring much more than enough for doing the work that the Lord has commanded us to do.” (2Ch 31:10; 2Co 8:2) 6 So Moses gave command, and word was proclaimed throughout the camp, “Let no man or woman do anything more for the contribution for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing, (Ex 36:3) 7 for the material they had was sufficient to do all the work, and more. 8 And all the craftsmen among the workmen made the tabernacle with ten curtains. They were made of fine twined linen and blue and purple and scarlet yarns, with cherubim skillfully worked. (Ex 26:1) 9 The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits,^[1] and the breadth of each curtain four cubits. All the curtains were the same size. 10 He^[2] coupled five curtains to one another, and the other five curtains he coupled to one another. 11 He made loops of blue on the edge of the outermost curtain of the first set. Likewise he made them on the edge of the outermost curtain of the second set. 12 He made fifty loops on the one curtain, and he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that was in the second set. The loops were opposite one another. 13 And he made fifty clasps of gold, and coupled the curtains one to the other with clasps. So the tabernacle was a single whole. 14 He also made curtains of goats’ hair for a tent over the tabernacle. He made eleven curtains. 15 The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits. The eleven curtains were the same size. 16 He coupled five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves. 17 And he made fifty loops on the edge of the outermost curtain of the one set, and fifty loops on the edge of the other connecting curtain. 18 And he made fifty clasps of bronze to couple the tent together that it might be a single whole. 19 And he made for the tent a covering of tanned rams’ skins and goatskins. 20 Then he made the upright frames for the tabernacle of acacia wood. 21 Ten cubits was the length of a frame, and a cubit and a half the breadth of each frame. 22 Each frame had two tenons for fitting together. He did this for all the frames of the tabernacle. 23 The frames for the tabernacle he made thus: twenty frames for the south side. 24 And he made forty bases of silver under the twenty frames, two bases under one frame for its two tenons, and two bases under the next frame for its two tenons. 25 For the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, he made twenty frames 26 and their forty bases of silver, two bases under one frame and two bases under the next frame. 27 For the rear of the tabernacle westward he made six frames. 28 He made two frames for corners of the tabernacle in the rear. 29 And they were separate beneath but joined at the top, at the first ring. He made two of them this way for the two corners. 30 There were eight frames with their bases of silver: sixteen bases, under every frame two bases. 31 He made bars of acacia wood, five for the frames of the one side of the tabernacle, 32 and five bars for the frames of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the frames of the tabernacle at the rear westward. 33 And he made the middle bar to run from end to end halfway up the frames. 34 And he overlaid the frames with gold, and made their rings of gold for holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold. 35 He made the veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen; with cherubim skillfully worked into it he made it. (Ex 26:31) 36 And for it he made four pillars of acacia and overlaid them with gold. Their hooks were of gold, and he cast for them four bases of silver. 37 He also made a screen for the entrance of the tent, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework, 38 and its five pillars with their hooks. He overlaid their capitals, and their fillets were of gold, but their five bases were of bronze.
