1The word of the Lord came to me:2‘Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir; prophesy against it3and say: “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you and make you a desolate waste.4I will turn your towns into ruins and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the Lord.5‘ “Because you harboured an ancient hostility and delivered the Israelites over to the sword at the time of their calamity, the time their punishment reached its climax,6therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you.7I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and cut off from it all who come and go.8I will fill your mountains with the slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines.9I will make you desolate for ever; your towns will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord.10‘ “Because you have said, ‘These two nations and countries will be ours and we will take possession of them,’ even though I the Lord was there,11therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will treat you in accordance with the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them and I will make myself known among them when I judge you.12Then you will know that I the Lord have heard all the contemptible things you have said against the mountains of Israel. You said, ‘They have been laid waste and have been given over to us to devour.’13You boasted against me and spoke against me without restraint, and I heard it.14This is what the Sovereign Lord says: while the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate.15Because you rejoiced when the inheritance of Israel became desolate, that is how I will treat you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, you and all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the Lord.” ’

Prophecy Against Mount Seir
1The word of the Lord came to me:2“Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir, and prophesy against it, (Ge 32:3; Isa 21:11; Eze 2:1; Eze 6:2; Eze 25:8; Eze 25:12; Am 1:11; Mal 1:4)3and say to it, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you, and I will make you a desolation and a waste. (Eze 6:14; Eze 13:8; Eze 33:28)4I will lay your cities waste, and you shall become a desolation, and you shall know that I am the Lord. (Isa 17:9; Isa 27:10)5Because you cherished perpetual enmity and gave over the people of Israel to the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, at the time of their final punishment, (Ps 137:7; Eze 21:25; Am 1:11; Ob 1:13)6therefore, as I live, declares the Lord God, I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; because you did not hate bloodshed, therefore blood shall pursue you. (Ge 9:6; Eze 16:48)7I will make Mount Seir a waste and a desolation, and I will cut off from it all who come and go. (Eze 29:11; Eze 35:3; Eze 35:4)8And I will fill its mountains with the slain. On your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those slain with the sword shall fall. (Eze 31:12; Eze 31:17; Eze 32:20)9I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities shall not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord. (Eze 6:7; Eze 35:3; Eze 35:4)10“Because you said, ‘These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will take possession of them’—although the Lord was there— (Ps 83:6; Ps 83:12; Eze 36:2; Eze 36:5; Eze 37:22; Eze 48:35)11therefore, as I live, declares the Lord God, I will deal with you according to the anger and envy that you showed because of your hatred against them. And I will make myself known among them, when I judge you. (Eze 35:6; Eze 35:9; Eze 35:15; Mt 7:2)12And you shall know that I am the Lord. “I have heard all the revilings that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are laid desolate; they are given us to devour.’ (2Ki 19:4; 2Ki 19:28; Eze 35:10)13And you magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and multiplied your words against me; I heard it. (1Sa 2:3; Eze 35:12)14Thus says the Lord God: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. (Isa 65:13)15As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will deal with you; you shall be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the Lord. (Ps 137:7; Eze 6:7; Eze 35:2; Eze 36:5)
