1While David was king of Israel, he won many battles over the Philistines. He brought them under his control. He took Metheg Ammah away from them.2David also won the battle over the people of Moab. He made them lie down on the ground. Then he measured them off with a piece of rope. He put two-thirds of them to death. He let the other third remain alive. So the Moabites were brought under David’s rule. They gave him the gifts he required them to bring him.3David fought against Hadadezer, the son of Rehob. Hadadezer was king of Zobah. He had gone to repair his monument at the River Euphrates.4David captured 1,000 of Hadadezer’s chariots, 7,000 chariot riders and 20,000 soldiers on foot. He cut the legs of all but 100 of the chariot horses.5The Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, the king of Zobah. But David struck down 22,000 of them.6He stationed some soldiers in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus. The people of Aram were brought under his rule. They gave him the gifts he required them to bring him. The LORD helped David win his battles everywhere he went.7David took the gold shields that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer. He brought the shields to Jerusalem.8He took a huge amount of bronze from Tebah and Berothai. Those towns belonged to Hadadezer.9Tou was king of Hamath. He heard that David had won the battle over the entire army of Hadadezer.10So Tou sent his son Joram to King David. Joram greeted David. He praised David because he had won the battle over Hadadezer. Hadadezer had been at war with Tou. So Joram brought with him gifts made out of silver, of gold and of bronze.11King David set those gifts apart for the LORD. He had done the same thing with the silver and gold he had taken from the other nations. Those were nations he had brought under his control.12Those nations were Edom, Moab, Ammon, Philistia and Amalek. He also set apart for the LORD what he had taken from Hadadezer, the son of Rehob. Hadadezer was king of Zobah.13David returned after he had struck down 18,000 men of Edom in the Valley of Salt. He became famous for doing it.14He stationed some soldiers all through Edom. The whole nation of Edom was brought under David’s rule. The LORD helped him win his battles everywhere he went.

(1Ch 18:1)2And he defeated Moab and he measured them with a line, making them lie down on the ground. Two lines he measured to be put to death, and one full line to be spared. And the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute. (Nu 24:17; 1Sa 10:27; 2Sa 8:6; 2Sa 8:14; 2Ki 17:3; Ps 60:8; Ps 72:10)3David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his power at the river Euphrates. (1Sa 14:47; 2Sa 10:6; 2Sa 10:16; 2Sa 10:19; 1Ki 11:23; 1Ch 18:3)4And David took from him 1,700 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers. And David hamstrung all the chariot horses but left enough for 100 chariots. (Jos 11:6; 1Ch 18:4)5And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians. (Jos 11:6; 2Sa 8:3; 1Ki 11:23)6Then David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went. (2Sa 8:2; 2Sa 8:14)7And David took the shields of gold that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. (2Ki 11:10; 2Ch 23:9; So 4:4)8And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took very much bronze.9When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer, (1Ki 8:65; 2Ki 18:34)10Toi sent his son Joram to King David, to ask about his health and to bless him because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Hadadezer had often been at war with Toi. And Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold, and of bronze.11These also King David dedicated to the Lord, together with the silver and gold that he dedicated from all the nations he subdued, (1Ki 7:51; 1Ch 26:26)12from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah. (1Sa 30:20; 2Sa 5:17; 2Sa 8:2; 2Sa 8:3; 2Sa 10:14; 2Sa 12:30)13And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking down 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. (Jos 15:62; 2Ki 14:7)14Then he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went. (Ge 25:23; Ge 27:29; Ge 27:37; Ge 27:40; Nu 24:18)
