1Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Siehe, ich habe dich dem Pharao zum Gott* gesetzt, und dein Bruder Aaron soll dein Prophet* sein.2Du sollst alles reden, was ich dir gebieten werde, und dein Bruder Aaron soll es dem Pharao sagen, dass er die Kinder Israels aus seinem Land ziehen lassen soll.3Aber ich will das Herz des Pharao verhärten, damit ich meine Zeichen und Wunder im Land Ägypten zahlreich werden lasse.4Und der Pharao wird nicht auf euch hören, sodass ich meine Hand an Ägypten legen und mein Heer, mein Volk, die Kinder Israels, durch große Gerichte aus dem Land Ägypten führen werde.5Und die Ägypter sollen erfahren, dass ich der HERR bin, wenn ich meine Hand über Ägypten ausstrecke und die Kinder Israels herausführe aus ihrer Mitte.6Und Mose und Aaron handelten genau so; wie ihnen der HERR geboten hatte, genau so handelten sie.7Und Mose war 80 Jahre alt und Aaron 83 Jahre alt, als sie zu dem Pharao redeten.8Und der HERR redete zu Mose und Aaron und sprach:9Wenn der Pharao zu euch sagen wird: Tut ein Zeichen, um euch auszuweisen!, so sollst du zu Aaron sagen: Nimm deinen Stab und wirf ihn vor den Pharao hin! — dann wird er zur Schlange werden.10Da gingen Mose und Aaron zum Pharao und handelten genau so, wie der HERR es ihnen geboten hatte. Und Aaron warf seinen Stab vor den Pharao und vor seine Knechte hin, und er wurde zur Schlange.11Da rief der Pharao die Weisen und Zauberkundigen. Und auch die ägyptischen Zauberer taten dasselbe mit ihren Zauberkünsten.12Und jeder warf seinen Stab hin, und es wurden Schlangen daraus; aber Aarons Stab verschlang ihre Stäbe.13Doch das Herz des Pharao verstockte sich, und er hörte nicht auf sie, so wie der HERR es gesagt hatte.
Die erste Plage: Wasser wird zu Blut
14Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Das Herz des Pharao ist verstockt; er weigert sich, das Volk ziehen zu lassen.15Geh am Morgen hin zum Pharao; siehe, er wird hinaus ans Wasser gehen; tritt ihm entgegen am Ufer des Nils und nimm den Stab in deine Hand, der zur Schlange geworden ist,16und sprich zu ihm: Der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer, hat mich zu dir gesandt, um dir zu sagen: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir in der Wüste dient! Aber siehe, du hast bisher nicht hören wollen.17Darum, so spricht der HERR: Daran sollst du erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin: Siehe, ich will mit dem Stab, den ich in meiner Hand habe, das Wasser schlagen, das im Nil ist, und es soll in Blut verwandelt werden,18sodass die Fische im Nil sterben müssen und der Nil stinken wird; und es wird die Ägypter ekeln, das Wasser aus dem Nil zu trinken.19Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Sage zu Aaron: Nimm deinen Stab und strecke deine Hand aus über die Wasser in Ägypten, über seine Nilarme, über seine Kanäle und über seine Sümpfe und über alle Wasserbecken, dass sie zu Blut werden und dass im ganzen Land Ägypten Blut sei, selbst in den hölzernen und steinernen [Gefäßen].20Und Mose und Aaron machten es so, wie es ihnen der HERR geboten hatte. Und er erhob den Stab und schlug vor dem Pharao und seinen Knechten das Wasser, das im Nil war; da wurde alles Wasser im Nil in Blut verwandelt.21Und die Fische im Nil starben, und der Nil wurde stinkend, sodass die Ägypter das Nilwasser nicht trinken konnten; und das Blut war im ganzen Land Ägypten.22Aber die ägyptischen Zauberer taten dasselbe mit ihren Zauberkünsten. Und so verstockte sich das Herz des Pharao, und er hörte nicht auf sie, so wie der HERR es gesagt hatte.23Und der Pharao wandte sich um und ging heim und nahm sich auch das nicht zu Herzen.24Aber alle Ägypter gruben um den Nil herum nach Trinkwasser; denn das Nilwasser konnten sie nicht trinken.25Und das währte sieben Tage lang, nachdem der HERR den Nil geschlagen hatte.
Die zweite Plage: Frösche
26Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Geh hinein zum Pharao und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der HERR: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir dient!27Wenn du dich aber weigerst, es ziehen zu lassen, siehe, so will ich dein ganzes Gebiet mit Fröschen plagen,28und der Nil wird von Fröschen wimmeln; die sollen heraufkommen in dein Haus und in deine Schlafkammer und auf dein Bett; auch in die Häuser deiner Knechte, unter dein Volk, in deine Backöfen und in deine Backtröge;29und die Frösche sollen auf dich und auf dein Volk und auf alle deine Knechte kriechen.

1Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘I have made you like God to Pharaoh. And your brother Aaron will be like a prophet to you.2You must say everything I command you to say. Then your brother Aaron must tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel leave his country.3But I will make Pharaoh stubborn. I will multiply the signs and amazing things I will do in Egypt.4In spite of that, he will not listen to you. So I will use my powerful hand against Egypt. When I judge them with mighty acts, I will bring my people Israel out like an army on the march.5Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD. I will reach out my powerful hand against them. I will bring the people of Israel out of Egypt.’6Moses and Aaron did exactly as the LORD had commanded them.7Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83 when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Aaron’s walking stick becomes a snake
8The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron.9He said, ‘Pharaoh will say to you, “Do a miracle.” When he does, speak to Aaron. Tell him, “Take your walking stick and throw it down in front of Pharaoh.” It will turn into a snake.’10So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh. They did exactly as the LORD had commanded them. Aaron threw the stick down in front of Pharaoh and his officials. It turned into a snake.11Then Pharaoh sent for wise men and people who do evil magic. By doing their magic tricks, the Egyptian magicians did the same things Aaron had done.12Each one threw down his walking stick. Each stick turned into a snake. But Aaron’s walking stick swallowed theirs up.13In spite of that, Pharaoh became stubborn. He wouldn’t listen to them, just as the LORD had said.
The plague of blood
14Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Pharaoh is very stubborn. He refuses to let the people go.15In the morning Pharaoh will go down to the River Nile. Go and meet him on the bank of the river. Take in your hand the walking stick that turned into a snake.16Say to Pharaoh, “The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you. He says, ‘Let my people go. Then they will be able to worship me in the desert. But up to now you have not listened.’17The LORD says, ‘Here is how you will know that I am the LORD. I will strike the water of the River Nile with the walking stick that is in my hand. The river will turn into blood.18The fish in the river will die. The river will stink. The Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.’ ” ’19The LORD said to Moses, ‘Tell Aaron, “Get your walking stick. Reach your hand out over the waters of Egypt. The streams, canals, ponds and all the lakes will turn into blood. There will be blood everywhere in Egypt. It will even be in the wooden buckets and stone jars.” ’20Moses and Aaron did exactly as the LORD had commanded them. Aaron held out his staff in front of Pharaoh and his officials. He struck the water of the River Nile. And all the water turned into blood.21The fish in the Nile died. The river smelled so bad the Egyptians couldn’t drink its water. There was blood everywhere in Egypt.22But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by doing their magic tricks. So Pharaoh became stubborn. He wouldn’t listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.23Even that miracle didn’t change Pharaoh’s mind. In fact, he turned round and went into his palace.24All the Egyptians dug holes near the River Nile to get drinking water. They couldn’t drink water from the river.
The plague of frogs
25Seven days passed after the LORD struck the River Nile.
