Die Nachkommen Esaus

1 Dies ist die Geschichte Esaus, das ist Edom. 2 Esau nahm seine Frauen von den Töchtern Kanaans: Ada, die Tochter Elons, des Hetiters, und Oholibama, die Tochter der Ana, der Tochter Zibeons, des Hewiters; 3 dazu Basmath, die Tochter Ismaels, Nebajoths Schwester. 4 Und Ada gebar dem Esau den Eliphas. Aber Basmath gebar den Reguel. 5 Oholibama gebar Jehusch und Jaelam und Korah. Das sind die Söhne Esaus, die ihm im Land Kanaan geboren wurden. 6 Und Esau nahm seine Frauen und seine Söhne und seine Töchter und alle Seelen seines Hauses, auch seine Habe und all sein Vieh und alle Güter, die er im Land Kanaan erworben hatte, und zog von seinem Bruder Jakob weg in ein anderes Land. 7 Denn ihre Habe war zu groß, sodass sie nicht beieinanderwohnen konnten; und das Land, in dem sie Fremdlinge waren, konnte sie wegen ihrer Herden nicht ertragen. 8 So wohnte Esau auf dem Bergland von Seir; Esau, das ist Edom. 9 Dies ist das Geschlecht Esaus, des Vaters der Edomiter, auf dem Bergland von Seir. 10 Und dies sind die Namen der Söhne Esaus: Eliphas, der Sohn Adas, der Frau Esaus; Reguel, der Sohn Basmaths, der Frau Esaus. 11 Die Söhne des Eliphas aber waren diese: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gaetam und Kenas. 12 Und Timna war eine Nebenfrau des Eliphas, des Sohnes Esaus, die gebar dem Eliphas den Amalek. Das sind die Söhne von Ada, der Frau Esaus. 13 Aber die Söhne Reguels sind diese: Nachath, Serach, Schamma und Missa. Das sind die Söhne von Basmath, der Frau Esaus. 14 Die Söhne aber von Oholibama, der Frau Esaus, der Tochter der Ana, der Tochter Zibeons, die sie Esau gebar, sind diese: Jehusch, Jaelam und Korah. 15 Das sind die Fürsten unter den Söhnen Esaus. Die Söhne des Eliphas, des ersten Sohnes Esaus, waren diese: der Fürst Teman, der Fürst Omar, der Fürst Zepho, der Fürst Kenas, 16 der Fürst Korah, der Fürst Gaetam, der Fürst Amalek. Das sind die Fürsten von Eliphas im Land Edom; das sind die Söhne der Ada. 17 Und das sind die Söhne Reguels, des Sohnes Esaus: der Fürst Nachath, der Fürst Serach, der Fürst Schamma, der Fürst Missa. Das sind die Fürsten von Reguel im Land Edom; das sind die Söhne der Basmath, der Frau Esaus. 18 Dies sind die Söhne Oholibamas, der Frau Esaus: der Fürst Jehusch, der Fürst Jaelam, der Fürst Korah. Das sind die Fürsten von Oholibama, der Tochter der Ana, der Frau Esaus. 19 Das sind die Söhne Esaus und ihre Fürsten, das ist Edom. 20 Die Söhne Seirs aber, des Horiters, die im Land wohnten, sind diese: Lotan, Schobal, Zibeon, Ana, 21 Dischon, Ezer und Dischan. Das sind die Fürsten der Horiter, die Söhne des Seir im Land Edom. 22 Aber Lotans Söhne waren diese: Hori und Hemam; und Lotans Schwester hieß Timna. 23 Die Söhne Schobals waren diese: Alwan, Manachath, Ebal, Schepho und Onam. 24 Die Söhne Zibeons waren: Aja und Ana. Das ist jener Ana, der in der Wüste die heißen Quellen fand, als er die Esel seines Vaters Zibeon hütete. 25 Die Kinder Anas waren: Dischon und Oholibama, diese ist die Tochter Anas. 26 Die Söhne Dischons waren: Hemdan, Eschban, Jithran und Keran. 27 Die Söhne Ezers waren: Bilhan, Saawan und Akan. 28 Die Söhne Dischans waren: Uz und Aran. 29 Das sind die Fürsten der Horiter: der Fürst Lotan, der Fürst Schobal, der Fürst Zibeon, der Fürst Ana, 30 der Fürst Dischon, der Fürst Ezer, der Fürst Dischan. Das sind die Fürsten der Horiter nach ihren Fürstentümern im Land Seir. 31 Die Könige aber, die im Land Edom regiert haben, bevor ein König über die Kinder Israels regierte, sind diese: 32 Bela, der Sohn Beors, war König in Edom, und der Name seiner Stadt war Dinhaba. 33 Als Bela starb, wurde Jobab, der Sohn Serachs, aus Bozra König an seiner Stelle. 34 Als Jobab starb, wurde Huscham aus dem Land der Temaniter König an seiner Stelle. 35 Als Huscham starb, wurde an seiner Stelle Hadad, der Sohn Bedads, König, der die Midianiter im Gebiet von Moab schlug; und der Name seiner Stadt war Awith. 36 Als Hadad starb, wurde Samla von Masreka König an seiner Stelle. 37 Als Samla starb, wurde Saul von Rechobot am Strom König an seiner Stelle. 38 Als Saul starb, wurde Baal-Hanan, der Sohn Achbors, König an seiner Stelle. 39 Als Baal-Hanan, der Sohn Achbors, starb, wurde Hadar König an seiner Stelle; und der Name seiner Stadt war Pagu, und der Name seiner Frau war Mehetabeel — eine Tochter Matreds, der Tochter Me-Sahabs. 40 Und dies sind die Namen der Fürsten von Esau nach ihren Geschlechtern, Orten und Namen: der Fürst von Timna, der Fürst von Alwa, der Fürst von Jetet, 41 der Fürst von Oholibama, der Fürst von Ela, der Fürst von Pinon, 42 der Fürst von Kenas, der Fürst von Teman, der Fürst von Mibzar, 43 der Fürst von Magdiel, der Fürst von Iram. Das sind die Fürsten in Edom, wie sie im Land ihres Eigentums gewohnt haben. Und Esau ist der Vater der Edomiter.

1 Here is the story of the family line of Esau. Esau was also called Edom. 2 Esau got his wives from among the women of Canaan. He married Adah, the daughter of Elon the Hittite. He also married Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah and the granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite. 3 And he married Basemath, the daughter of Ishmael and the sister of Nebaioth. 4 Adah had Eliphaz by Esau. Basemath had Reuel. 5 Oholibamah had Jeush, Jalam and Korah. All of them were Esau’s sons. They were born in Canaan. 6 Esau moved to a land far away from his brother Jacob. Esau took with him his wives, his sons and daughters, and all the people who lived with him. He also took his livestock and all his other animals. He took everything he had acquired in Canaan. 7 Jacob and Esau owned so much that they couldn’t remain together. There wasn’t enough land for both of them. They had too much livestock. 8 So Esau made his home in the hill country of Seir. Esau was also called Edom. 9 Here is the story of the family line of Esau. He’s the father of the people of Edom. They live in the hill country of Seir. 10 Here are the names of Esau’s sons. They are Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath. 11 The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz. 12 Esau’s son Eliphaz also had a concubine named Timna. She had Amalek by Eliphaz. They were grandsons of Esau’s wife Adah. 13 The sons of Reuel were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. They were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath. 14 Esau’s wife Oholibamah was the daughter of Anah and the granddaughter of Zibeon. She had Jeush, Jalam and Korah by Esau. 15 Here are the chiefs among Esau’s sons. Eliphaz was Esau’s eldest son. The sons of Eliphaz were Chiefs Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, 16 Korah, Gatam and Amalek. They were the chiefs in Edom who were sons of Eliphaz. They were Adah’s grandsons. 17 The sons of Esau’s son Reuel were Chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. They were the chiefs in Edom who were sons of Reuel. They were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath. 18 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah were Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah. They were the chiefs who were sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah. She was Anah’s daughter. 19 That was the family line of Esau. And these were the chiefs. Esau was also called Edom. 20 Seir, the Horite, had sons living in the same area. They were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 21 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite chiefs. 22 The sons of Lotan were Hori and Homam. Timna was Lotan’s sister. 23 The sons of Shobal were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam. 24 The sons of Zibeon were Aiah and Anah. He was the Anah who discovered the hot springs of water in the desert. He found them while he was taking care of the donkeys that belonged to his father Zibeon. 25 The children of Anah were Dishon and Oholibamah. Oholibamah was the daughter of Anah. 26 The sons of Dishon were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran. 27 The sons of Ezer were Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan. 28 The sons of Dishan were Uz and Aran. 29 The Horite chiefs were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 30 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. They were the Horite chiefs in the land of Seir. They are listed tribe by tribe.

The rulers of Edom

31 Before Israel had a king, there were kings who ruled in Edom. 32 Bela became the king of Edom. Bela was the son of Beor. Bela’s city was called Dinhabah. 33 When Bela died, Jobab became the next king. Jobab was the son of Zerah from Bozrah. 34 When Jobab died, Husham became the next king. Husham was from the land of the Temanites. 35 When Husham died, Hadad became the next king. Hadad was the son of Bedad. Hadad had won the battle over Midian in the country of Moab. Hadad’s city was called Avith. 36 When Hadad died, Samlah became the next king. Samlah was from Masrekah. 37 When Samlah died, Shaul became the next king. Shaul was from Rehoboth on the river. 38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan became the next king. Baal-Hanan was the son of Akbor. 39 When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the next king. Hadad’s city was called Pau. His wife’s name was Mehetabel. She was Matred’s daughter. Matred was the daughter of Me-Zahab. 40 Here are the chiefs in the family line of Esau. They are listed by name as chiefs in charge of their tribes and territories. They are Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 43 Magdiel and Iram. They were the chiefs of Edom. They ruled over their settlements in the land where they lived. That’s the end of the story of the family line of Esau. He was the father of the people of Edom.
