Abrams Rückkehr nach Kanaan. Trennung von Lot

1 Und Abram zog mit seiner Frau und mit allem, was er hatte, auch mit Lot, von Ägypten hinauf in den Negev*. 2 Und Abram war sehr reich geworden an Vieh, Silber und Gold. 3 Und er zog weiter von einem Lagerplatz zum anderen, vom Negev her bis nach Bethel, bis zu dem Ort, wo sein Zelt zuerst gestanden hatte, zwischen Bethel und Ai, 4 an die Stätte des Altars, den er dort zuerst errichtet hatte; und Abram rief dort den Namen des HERRN an. 5 Aber auch Lot, der mit Abram ging, hatte Schafe, Rinder und Zelte. 6 Und das Land ertrug es nicht, dass sie beieinanderwohnten; denn ihre Habe war groß, und sie konnten nicht beieinanderbleiben. 7 Und es entstand Streit zwischen den Hirten über Abrams Vieh und den Hirten über Lots Vieh; auch wohnten zu der Zeit die Kanaaniter und Pheresiter im Land. 8 Da sprach Abram zu Lot: Es soll doch nicht Streit sein zwischen mir und dir, zwischen meinen Hirten und deinen Hirten! Denn wir sind Brüder. 9 Steht dir nicht das ganze Land offen? Trenne dich von mir! Willst du zur Linken, so gehe ich zur Rechten; und willst du zur Rechten, so gehe ich zur Linken! 10 Da hob Lot seine Augen auf und sah die ganze Jordanaue; denn sie war überall bewässert, wie der Garten des HERRN, wie das Land Ägypten, bis nach Zoar hinab, bevor der HERR Sodom und Gomorra zerstörte. 11 Darum erwählte sich Lot die ganze Jordanaue und zog gegen Osten. So trennte sich ein Bruder von dem anderen. 12 Abram wohnte im Land Kanaan, und Lot wohnte in den Städten der Aue, und er schlug sein Zelt auf bis nach Sodom hin. 13 Aber die Leute von Sodom waren sehr böse und sündigten schlimm gegen den HERRN.*

Gott erneuert seine Verheißungen an Abram

14 Der HERR aber sprach zu Abram, nachdem sich Lot von ihm getrennt hatte: Hebe doch deine Augen auf und schaue von dem Ort, wo du wohnst, nach Norden, Süden, Osten und Westen! 15 Denn das ganze Land, das du siehst, will ich dir und deinem Samen* geben auf ewig. 16 Und ich will deinen Samen machen wie den Staub auf der Erde; wenn ein Mensch den Staub auf der Erde zählen kann, so soll man auch deinen Samen zählen können. 17 Mach dich auf, durchziehe das Land seiner Länge und Breite nach! Denn dir will ich es geben. 18 Da brach Abram auf, kam und wohnte bei den Terebinthen Mamres in Hebron und baute dort dem HERRN einen Altar.

Abram and Lot separate

1 Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev Desert. He took his wife and everything he had. Lot went with him. 2 Abram had become very rich. He had a lot of livestock and silver and gold. 3 Abram left the Negev Desert. He went from place to place until he came to Bethel. Then he came to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlier. 4 There he called on the name of the LORD at the altar he had built. 5 Lot was moving around with Abram. Lot also had flocks and herds and tents. 6 But the land didn’t have enough food for both Abram and Lot. They had large herds and many servants, so they weren’t able to stay together. 7 The people who took care of Abram’s herds and those who took care of Lot’s herds began to argue. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time. 8 So Abram said to Lot, ‘Let’s not argue with each other. The people taking care of your herds and those taking care of mine shouldn’t argue with one another either. After all, we’re part of the same family. 9 Isn’t the whole land in front of you? Let’s separate. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right. If you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.’ 10 Lot looked around. He saw that the whole River Jordan valley towards the town of Zoar had plenty of water. It was like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt. This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. 11 So Lot chose the whole River Jordan valley for himself. Then he started out towards the east. The two men separated. 12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan. Lot lived among the cities of the River Jordan valley. He set up his tents near Sodom. 13 The people of Sodom were evil. They were sinning greatly against the LORD. 14 The LORD spoke to Abram after Lot had left him. He said, ‘Look around from where you are. Look north and south, east and west. 15 I will give you all the land you see. I will give it for ever to you and your family who comes after you. 16 I will make them like the dust of the earth. Can dust be counted? If it can, then your family can be counted. 17 Go! Walk through the land. See how long and wide it is. I am giving it to you.’ 18 So Abram went to live near the large trees of Mamre at Hebron. There he pitched his tents and built an altar to honour the LORD.
