1Jericho aber war verschlossen und verriegelt vor den Kindern Israels, sodass niemand heraus- oder hineingehen konnte.2Und der HERR sprach zu Josua: Siehe, ich habe Jericho samt seinem König und den tapferen Kriegern in deine Hand gegeben.3Darum sollt ihr um die Stadt ziehen, alle Kriegsleute, einmal rings um die Stadt herum. So sollst du es sechs Tage lang tun.4Und sieben Priester sollen sieben Hörner des Halljahres vor der Lade hertragen; und am siebten Tag sollt ihr siebenmal um die Stadt ziehen, und die Priester sollen in die Schopharhörner stoßen.5Und es soll geschehen, wenn man das Horn des Halljahres bläst und ihr den Ton des Schopharhornes hört, so soll das ganze Volk ein großes Kriegsgeschrei erheben. Dann werden die Stadtmauern in sich zusammenstürzen, und das Volk soll hinaufsteigen, jeder gerade vor sich hin!6Da rief Josua, der Sohn Nuns, die Priester zu sich und sprach zu ihnen: Tragt die Bundeslade und lasst sieben Priester sieben Hörner des Halljahres vor der Lade des HERRN hertragen!7Zum Volk aber sprach er: Macht euch auf und zieht um die Stadt, und die gerüsteten Krieger sollen vor der Lade des HERRN hergehen!8Als Josua dies zum Volk gesagt hatte, zogen die sieben Priester hin, welche die sieben Hörner des Halljahres vor dem HERRN hertrugen, und sie stießen in die Hörner, und die Bundeslade des HERRN folgte ihnen nach.9Und die gerüsteten Krieger schritten vor den Priestern her, die in die Hörner stießen, und die Nachhut folgte der Lade nach, und sie stießen beständig in die Hörner.10Josua aber gebot dem Volk und sprach: Ihr sollt kein Kriegsgeschrei erheben, noch eure Stimme hören lassen; auch soll kein Wort aus eurem Mund gehen bis zu dem Tag, da ich zu euch sagen werde: »Erhebt ein Kriegsgeschrei!« Dann sollt ihr ein Kriegsgeschrei erheben!11Und die Lade des HERRN zog einmal rings um die Stadt, und sie kamen wieder in das Lager und blieben über Nacht im Lager.12Und Josua stand am Morgen früh auf, und die Priester trugen die Lade des HERRN,13auch trugen die sieben Priester die sieben Hörner des Halljahres vor der Lade des HERRN her und stießen fortwährend in die Hörner; und die gerüsteten Krieger gingen vor ihnen her, aber die Nachhut folgte der Lade des HERRN, und sie stießen fortwährend in die Hörner.14Am zweiten Tag zogen sie auch einmal um die Stadt und kamen wieder ins Lager. Das taten sie sechs Tage lang.15Am siebten Tag aber machten sie sich früh auf, bei Anbruch der Morgenröte, und sie zogen nach derselben Weise siebenmal um die Stadt; nur an diesem Tag zogen sie siebenmal um die Stadt.16Und es geschah beim siebten Mal, als die Priester in die Hörner stießen, da sprach Josua zum Volk: Erhebt ein Kriegsgeschrei; denn der HERR hat euch die Stadt gegeben!17Aber diese Stadt und alles, was darin ist, soll dem Bann des HERRN verfallen sein!* Nur die Hure Rahab soll am Leben bleiben, sie und alle, die bei ihr im Haus sind; denn sie hat die Boten verborgen, die wir aussandten.18Ihr aber hütet euch vor dem Gebannten, damit ihr nicht, nachdem ihr [daran] den Bann vollstreckt habt, doch von dem Gebannten etwas nehmt und über das Lager Israels einen Bann bringt* und es ins Unglück kommt!19Aber alles Silber und Gold samt den ehernen* und eisernen Geräten soll dem HERRN geheiligt sein; es soll in den Schatz des HERRN kommen!*20Da erhob das Volk ein Kriegsgeschrei, und [die Priester] stießen in die Schopharhörner. Als nun das Volk den Schall der Hörner hörte und ein großes Kriegsgeschrei erhob, da stürzte die Mauer in sich zusammen, und das Volk drang in die Stadt ein, jeder gerade vor sich hin. So nahmen sie die Stadt ein.21Und sie vollstreckten den Bann an allem, was in der Stadt war, mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, an Männern und Frauen, Jungen und Alten, Rindern, Schafen und Eseln.22Aber Josua sprach zu den beiden Männern, die das Land ausgekundschaftet hatten: Geht in das Haus der Hure und bringt die Frau von dort heraus samt allen ihren Angehörigen, wie ihr es ihr geschworen habt!23Da gingen die jungen Männer, die Kundschafter, hinein und führten Rahab heraus samt ihrem Vater und ihrer Mutter und ihren Brüdern und allen ihren Angehörigen; ihr ganzes Geschlecht führten sie hinaus und brachten sie außerhalb des Lagers Israels unter.24Aber die Stadt und alles, was darin war, verbrannten sie mit Feuer; nur das Silber und Gold und die ehernen und eisernen Geräte legten sie in den Schatz des Hauses des HERRN.25So ließ Josua die Hure Rahab leben samt dem Haus ihres Vaters und allen ihren Angehörigen; und sie blieb mitten in Israel wohnen bis zu diesem Tag, weil sie die Boten verbarg, die Josua gesandt hatte, um Jericho auszukundschaften.26Zu der Zeit schwor Josua und sprach: Verflucht vor dem HERRN sei der Mann, der sich aufmachen und diese Stadt Jericho [wieder] bauen wird! Wenn er ihren Grund legt, so soll es ihn seinen erstgeborenen Sohn kosten, und wenn er ihre Tore setzt, so soll es ihn seinen jüngsten Sohn kosten!27Und der HERR war mit Josua, und die Kunde von ihm verbreitete sich im ganzen Land.

1Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.2And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.3And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.4And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams'horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.5And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram' horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.6And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams'horns before the ark of the LORD.7And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.8And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams'horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.9And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.10And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.11So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.12And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.13And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams'horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.14And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.15And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.16And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.17And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.18And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.19But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.20So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.21And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.22But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot' house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.23And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.24And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.25And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father' household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.26And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.27So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.
