1Und es geschah eines Tages, dass Jonathan, der Sohn Sauls, zu seinem Waffenträger sprach: Komm, lass uns hinübergehen zu dem Vorposten der Philister, der dort drüben ist! Seinem Vater aber sagte er es nicht.2Saul aber saß an der Grenze von Gibea unter einem Granatbaum, der bei Migron ist; und die Leute bei ihm waren etwa 600 Mann.3Und Achija, der Sohn Achitubs, Ikabods Bruder, der Sohn des Pinehas, des Sohnes Elis, der Priester des HERRN in Silo, trug das Ephod. Das Volk aber wusste nicht, dass Jonathan weggegangen war.4Nun gab es zwischen den Pässen, wo Jonathan zum Vorposten der Philister hinüberzugehen suchte, eine Felszacke diesseits und eine Felszacke jenseits; der Name der einen war Bozez und der Name der anderen Senne.5Die eine Zacke erhebt sich nördlich gegenüber Michmas, die andere südlich gegenüber Geba.6Und Jonathan sprach zu seinem Waffenträger: Komm, lass uns zu dem Posten dieser Unbeschnittenen hinübergehen! Vielleicht wird der HERR durch uns wirken; denn es ist dem HERRN nicht schwer, durch viele oder durch wenige zu retten!7Da antwortete ihm sein Waffenträger: Tue alles, was in deinem Herzen ist! Geh nur hin! Siehe, ich bin mit dir, wie dein Herz es will!8Da sprach Jonathan: Siehe, wir werden zu den Leuten hinüberkommen, und wollen uns ihnen zeigen.9Wenn sie dann zu uns sagen: »Bleibt stehen, bis wir zu euch kommen!«, so wollen wir an unserem Ort stehen bleiben und nicht zu ihnen hinaufsteigen.10Wenn sie aber sagen: »Kommt zu uns herauf!«, so wollen wir zu ihnen hinaufsteigen, denn der HERR hat sie in unsere Hand gegeben, und das soll uns als Zeichen dienen!11Als sie sich nun beide dem Posten der Philister zeigten, sprachen die Philister: Siehe, die Hebräer kommen aus den Löchern heraus, in denen sie sich verkrochen hatten!12Und die Männer, die auf Posten standen, riefen Jonathan und seinem Waffenträger und sprachen: Kommt herauf zu uns, so wollen wir euch etwas lehren! Da sprach Jonathan zu seinem Waffenträger: Steige mir nach; denn der HERR hat sie in die Hand Israels gegeben!13Und Jonathan kletterte auf Händen und Füßen hinauf, und sein Waffenträger ihm nach. Und jene fielen vor Jonathan, und sein Waffenträger hinter ihm tötete sie;14sodass Jonathan und sein Waffenträger in diesem ersten Gefecht auf ungefähr einer halben Furchenlänge eines Joches Ackerland an die 20 Mann erschlugen.15Und es entstand ein Schrecken im Heerlager, auf dem Feld und unter dem ganzen Volk; sogar die, welche auf Posten standen, und der Verheerungszug erschraken, und die Erde erbebte, und so entstand ein Schrecken Gottes.16Und die Wächter Sauls in Gibea-Benjamin schauten aus, und siehe, das Getümmel wogte hin und her.17Da sprach Saul zu dem Volk, das bei ihm war: Zählt doch und seht, wer von uns weggegangen ist! Und als sie zählten, siehe, da fehlten Jonathan und sein Waffenträger.18Da sprach Saul zu Achija: Bringe die Lade Gottes herbei! Denn die Lade Gottes war zu der Zeit bei den Kindern Israels.19Und während Saul noch mit dem Priester redete, wurde das Getümmel im Heerlager der Philister immerfort größer. Da sagte Saul zum Priester: Lass es bleiben!20Und Saul und das ganze Volk, das bei ihm war, wurden aufgeboten, und als sie zum Kampf hinzukamen, siehe, da war das Schwert eines jeden [Philisters] gegen den anderen; es herrschte die größte Verwirrung.21Auch die Hebräer, die zuvor bei den Philistern gewesen und mit ihnen von ringsumher ins Lager hinaufgezogen waren, wandten sich zu den Israeliten, die mit Saul und Jonathan waren.22Auch alle Männer von Israel, die sich auf dem Bergland Ephraim verkrochen hatten, hörten, dass die Philister flohen, und sie setzten jenen im Kampf nach.23So rettete der HERR an jenem Tag Israel; und der Kampf wogte bis Beth-Awen hinüber.
Sauls verkehrter Schwur schwächt das Volkund gefährdet Jonathan
24Die Männer Israels waren aber sehr angestrengt an jenem Tag; und Saul beschwor das Volk und sprach: Verflucht sei der Mann, der Speise isst bis zum Abend, bis ich mich an meinen Feinden gerächt habe! Da nahm niemand im Volk eine Speise zu sich.25Das ganze Land aber kam gerade in die Zeit der Honigernte, und Honig befand sich auf dem freien Feld.26Als nun das Volk zu den Honigwaben kam, siehe, da floss der Honig; aber niemand nahm davon etwas mit der Hand zu seinem Mund; denn das Volk fürchtete sich vor dem Schwur.27Jonathan aber hatte es nicht gehört, als sein Vater das Volk beschwor; und er streckte die Spitze seines Stabes aus, den er in seiner Hand hatte, und tauchte ihn in eine Honigwabe und nahm eine Handvoll in den Mund; da wurden seine Augen munter.28Aber einer aus dem Volk ergriff das Wort und sprach: Dein Vater hat das Volk feierlich beschworen und gesagt: Verflucht sei der Mann, der heute Speise isst! — Das Volk aber war ermattet.29Da sprach Jonathan: Mein Vater hat das Land ins Unglück gebracht! Seht doch, wie munter meine Augen geworden sind, weil ich ein wenig von diesem Honig zu mir genommen habe!30Ach, wenn doch das Volk heute ungehindert von der Beute seiner Feinde gegessen hätte, die es gefunden hat! Wäre dann die Niederlage der Philister nicht noch größer geworden?31Doch schlugen sie die Philister an jenem Tag von Michmas bis nach Ajalon, obwohl das Volk sehr ermattet war.32Und das Volk fiel über die Beute her, und sie nahmen Schafe und Rinder und Kälber und schlachteten sie auf der Erde, und das Volk aß [das Fleisch] mit dem Blut.33Und man berichtete dies dem Saul und sprach: Siehe, das Volk versündigt sich an dem HERRN, indem es mitsamt dem Blut isst! Er sprach: Ihr habt treulos gehandelt! Wälzt sofort einen großen Stein zu mir her!34Und Saul sprach weiter: Zerstreut euch unter das Volk und sagt ihnen, dass jedermann seinen Ochsen und sein Schaf zu mir bringen soll; und schlachtet sie hier und esst dann, damit ihr euch nicht an dem HERRN versündigt, indem ihr [das Fleisch] mit dem Blut esst! Da brachte das ganze Volk, jeder, was er zur Hand hatte, in [jener] Nacht herzu und schlachtete es dort.35Und Saul baute dem HERRN einen Altar; das war der erste Altar, den er dem HERRN baute.36Und Saul sprach: Lasst uns bei Nacht hinabziehen, den Philistern nach, und sie berauben, bis es heller Morgen wird, und niemand von ihnen übrig lassen! Sie antworteten: Tue alles, was gut ist in deinen Augen! Aber der Priester sprach: Lasst uns hier zu Gott nahen!37Und Saul fragte Gott: Soll ich hinabziehen, den Philistern nach? Willst du sie in die Hand Israels geben? Aber Er antwortete ihm nicht an jenem Tag.38Da sprach Saul: Es sollen alle Häupter des Volkes herzutreten und erforschen und sehen, an wem heute diese Schuld liegt!39Denn so wahr der HERR lebt, der Israel gerettet hat, wenn sie auch an meinem Sohn Jonathan wäre, so soll er gewiss sterben! Da antwortete ihm niemand vom ganzen Volk.40Und er sprach zu ganz Israel: Ihr sollt auf jene Seite treten; ich und mein Sohn Jonathan wollen auf dieser Seite sein. Das Volk sprach zu Saul: Tue, was gut ist in deinen Augen!41Und Saul sprach zu dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels: Gib, dass die Wahrheit offenbar wird! Da wurden Jonathan und Saul getroffen; aber das Volk ging frei aus.42Und Saul sprach: Werft das Los über mich und meinen Sohn Jonathan! Da wurde Jonathan getroffen.43Und Saul sprach zu Jonathan: Sage mir, was hast du getan? Und Jonathan sagte es ihm und sprach: Ich habe nur ein wenig Honig gekostet mit der Spitze des Stabes, den ich in meiner Hand hatte, und siehe, ich soll sterben!44Da sprach Saul: Gott tue mir dies und das; Jonathan, du musst gewisslich sterben!45Aber das Volk sprach zu Saul: Sollte Jonathan sterben, der Israel diese große Rettung verschafft hat? Das sei ferne! So wahr der HERR lebt, es soll kein Haar von seinem Haupt auf die Erde fallen; denn er hat an diesem Tag mit Gott gewirkt! So erlöste das Volk den Jonathan, dass er nicht sterben musste.46Und Saul ließ von der Verfolgung der Philister ab und zog hinauf, und die Philister zogen in ihr Land.
Sauls Kriegstaten und seine Familie
47Als aber Saul die Herrschaft über Israel bekommen hatte, kämpfte er gegen alle seine Feinde ringsumher, gegen die Moabiter, gegen die Ammoniter, gegen die Edomiter, gegen die Könige von Zoba und gegen die Philister; und wohin er sich wandte, da war er siegreich.48Und er vollbrachte tapfere Taten und schlug Amalek und errettete Israel aus der Hand derer, die sie beraubten.49Und die Söhne Sauls waren: Jonathan, Jischwi und Malchischua. Und von seinen zwei Töchtern hieß die erstgeborene Merab und die jüngere Michal.50Und die Frau Sauls hieß Achinoam; [sie war] eine Tochter des Ahimaaz. Und sein Heerführer hieß Abner, ein Sohn Ners, des Onkels Sauls.51Kis aber, der Vater Sauls, und Ner, der Vater Abners, waren Söhne Abiels.52Der Krieg gegen die Philister war heftig, solange Saul lebte, und wenn Saul einen starken und tapferen Mann sah, nahm er ihn zu sich.

1Now it came to pass upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines'garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.2And Saul tarried in the uttermost part of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people that were with him were about six hundred men;3And Ahiah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod' brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD' priest in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.4And between the passages, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines'garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.5The forefront of the one was situate northward over against Michmash, and the other southward over against Gibeah.6And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.7And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart.8Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we will discover ourselves unto them.9If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them.10But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD hath delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us.11And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.12And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.13And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew after him.14And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow .15And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very great trembling.16And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another .17Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there .18And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.19And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thine hand.20And Saul and all the people that were with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle: and, behold, every man' sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.21Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.22Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.23So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Bethaven.24And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.25And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground.26And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.27But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.28Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food this day. And the people were faint.29Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.30How much more, if haply the people had eaten freely to day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?31And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: and the people were very faint.32And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.33Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have transgressed: roll a great stone unto me this day.34And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slew them there.35And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.36And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.37And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.38And Saul said, Draw ye near hither, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.39For, as the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.40Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth good unto thee.41Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect lot . And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.42And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.43Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and , lo, I must die.44And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.45And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: as the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.46Then Saul went up from following the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own place.47So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them .48And he gathered an host, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.49Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchishua: and the names of his two daughters were these ; the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:50And the name of Saul' wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul' uncle.51And Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.52And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any strong man, or any valiant man, he took him unto him.
