1Und der HERR redete zu Mose und sprach:2Sage den Kindern Israels, dass sie umkehren und sich vor Pi-Hachirot lagern, zwischen Migdol und dem Meer; gerade gegenüber von Baal-Zephon sollt ihr euch am Meer lagern!3Denn der Pharao wird von den Kindern Israels sagen: Sie irren im Land umher, die Wüste hat sie eingeschlossen!4Und ich will das Herz des Pharao verstocken, dass er ihnen nachjagt, und ich will mich am Pharao und an seiner ganzen Heeresmacht verherrlichen; und die Ägypter sollen erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin! Und sie machten es so.5Als nun dem König von Ägypten gemeldet wurde, dass das Volk geflohen sei, da wandte sich das Herz des Pharao und seiner Knechte gegen das Volk, und sie sprachen: Was haben wir da getan, dass wir Israel haben ziehen lassen, sodass sie uns nicht mehr dienen!6Und er spannte seinen Wagen an und nahm sein Kriegsvolk mit sich.7Er nahm auch 600 auserlesene Streitwagen mit und alle [übrigen] Streitwagen in Ägypten und Wagenkämpfer auf jedem.8Und der HERR verstockte das Herz des Pharao, des Königs von Ägypten, sodass er den Kindern Israels nachjagte, obwohl sie durch eine hohe Hand* auszogen.9So jagten ihnen die Ägypter nach mit allen Rossen, Streitwagen und Reitern des Pharao und mit seiner Heeresmacht und erreichten sie, als sie sich am Meer gelagert hatten, bei Pi-Hachirot, gegenüber Baal-Zephon.10Und als der Pharao nahe zu ihnen kam, erhoben die Kinder Israels ihre Augen, und siehe, die Ägypter zogen hinter ihnen her! Da fürchteten sich die Kinder Israels sehr, und sie schrien zum HERRN.11Und sie sprachen zu Mose: Gibt es etwa keine Gräber in Ägypten, dass du uns weggeführt hast, damit wir in der Wüste sterben? Warum hast du uns das angetan, dass du uns aus Ägypten herausgeführt hast?12Haben wir dir nicht schon in Ägypten dieses Wort gesagt: »Lass uns in Ruhe, wir wollen den Ägyptern dienen?« Denn es wäre für uns ja besser, den Ägyptern zu dienen, als in der Wüste zu sterben!13Mose aber sprach zum Volk: Fürchtet euch nicht! Steht fest und seht die Rettung des HERRN, die er euch heute bereiten wird; denn diese Ägypter, die ihr heute seht, die werdet ihr nicht wiedersehen in Ewigkeit!14Der HERR wird für euch kämpfen, und ihr sollt still sein!
Israel zieht durchs Schilfmeer — die Ägypter kommen darin um
15Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Was schreist du zu mir? Sage den Kindern Israels, dass sie aufbrechen sollen!16Du aber hebe deinen Stab auf und strecke deine Hand über das Meer und zerteile es, damit die Kinder Israels mitten durch das Meer auf dem Trockenen gehen können!17Ich aber, siehe, ich will das Herz der Ägypter verstocken, dass sie ihnen nachziehen; dann will ich mich verherrlichen an dem Pharao und an seiner ganzen Heeresmacht, an seinen Streitwagen und seinen Reitern.18Und die Ägypter sollen erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin, wenn ich mich am Pharao, an seinen Streitwagen und an seinen Reitern verherrliche!19Da erhob sich der Engel Gottes, der vor dem Heer Israels herzog, und trat hinter sie; und die Wolkensäule vor ihnen machte sich auf und trat hinter sie.20So kam sie zwischen das Heer der Ägypter und das Heer Israels; und sie war [für die einen] Wolke und Finsternis, und [für die anderen] erleuchtete sie die Nacht, sodass diese und jene die ganze Nacht nicht zusammenkamen.21Als nun Mose seine Hand über das Meer ausstreckte, da trieb der HERR das Meer die ganze Nacht durch einen starken Ostwind hinweg; und er machte das Meer zu trockenem Land, und die Wasser teilten sich.22Und die Kinder Israels gingen mitten in das Meer hinein auf dem Trockenen, und das Wasser war ihnen wie eine Mauer zu ihrer Rechten und zu ihrer Linken.23Die Ägypter aber jagten ihnen nach und zogen hinter ihnen her, alle Rosse des Pharao, seine Streitwagen und seine Reiter, mitten ins Meer.24Und es geschah, als die Morgenwache kam, da schaute der HERR aus der Feuersäule und der Wolke auf das Heer der Ägypter und verwirrte das Heer der Ägypter.25Und er löste die Räder von ihren Streitwagen und brachte sie ins Gedränge. Da sprachen die Ägypter: Lasst uns vor Israel fliehen, denn der HERR kämpft für sie gegen die Ägypter!26Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Strecke deine Hand aus über das Meer, damit die Wasser wieder zurückfluten über die Ägypter, über ihre Streitwagen und über ihre Reiter!27Da streckte Mose seine Hand aus über das Meer, und das Meer kam beim Anbruch des Morgens wieder in seine Strömung, und die Ägypter flohen ihm entgegen. So stürzte der HERR die Ägypter mitten ins Meer.28Denn die Wasser fluteten zurück und bedeckten die Streitwagen und Reiter der ganzen Macht des Pharao, die ihnen ins Meer nachgefolgt waren, sodass auch nicht einer von ihnen übrig blieb.29Aber die Kinder Israels gingen trocken mitten durch das Meer, und das Wasser war ihnen eine Mauer zu ihrer Rechten und zu ihrer Linken.30So errettete der HERR Israel an jenem Tag aus der Hand der Ägypter. Und Israel sah die Ägypter tot am Ufer des Meeres.31Da sah Israel die mächtige Hand, mit welcher der HERR an den Ägyptern gehandelt hatte; und das Volk fürchtete den HERRN, und sie glaubten an den HERRN und an seinen Knecht Mose.

Crossing the Red Sea
1Then the Lord said to Moses,2“Tell the people of Israel to turn back and encamp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baal-zephon; you shall encamp facing it, by the sea.3For Pharaoh will say of the people of Israel, ‘They are wandering in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.’4And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord.” And they did so.5When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, the mind of Pharaoh and his servants was changed toward the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?”6So he made ready his chariot and took his army with him,7and took six hundred chosen chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them.8And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the people of Israel while the people of Israel were going out defiantly.9The Egyptians pursued them, all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and his horsemen and his army, and overtook them encamped at the sea, by Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.10When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord.11They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt?12Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”13And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.14The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”15The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward.16Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground.17And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they shall go in after them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, his chariots, and his horsemen.18And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gotten glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”19Then the angel of God who was going before the host of Israel moved and went behind them, and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them,20coming between the host of Egypt and the host of Israel. And there was the cloud and the darkness. And it lit up the night* without one coming near the other all night.21Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.22And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.23The Egyptians pursued and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.24And in the morning watch the Lord in the pillar of fire and of cloud looked down on the Egyptian forces and threw the Egyptian forces into a panic,25clogging* their chariot wheels so that they drove heavily. And the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from before Israel, for the Lord fights for them against the Egyptians.”26Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the water may come back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.”27So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal course when the morning appeared. And as the Egyptians fled into it, the Lord threw* the Egyptians into the midst of the sea.28The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen; of all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea, not one of them remained.29But the people of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.30Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.31Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses.
