1Und David ging von dort weg und entkam in die Höhle Adullam. Als das seine Brüder und das ganze Haus seines Vaters hörten, kamen sie dorthin zu ihm hinab.2Und es versammelten sich zu ihm allerlei Männer, die in Not und Schulden waren, und alle, die ein verbittertes Herz hatten, und er wurde ihr Oberster, und sie hielten es mit ihm, etwa 400 Mann.3Und David ging von dort nach Mizpe [in] Moab und sprach zum König von Moab: Lass doch meinen Vater und meine Mutter herkommen und bei euch bleiben, bis ich erfahre, was Gott mit mir tun wird!4Und er führte sie vor den König von Moab, und sie blieben bei ihm, solange David auf der Bergfeste war.5Aber der Prophet Gad sprach zu David: Bleibe nicht auf der Bergfeste, sondern geh ins Land Juda! Und David ging weg und kam in den Wald Haret.
Saul ermordet die Priester des Herrn
6Und als Saul hörte, dass David und die Männer, die bei ihm waren, entdeckt worden seien (Saul aber saß gerade in Gibea unter der Tamariske auf der Anhöhe, den Speer in der Hand, und alle seine Knechte standen vor ihm),7da sprach Saul zu seinen Knechten, die vor ihm standen: Hört doch, ihr Benjaminiter: Wird auch der Sohn Isais euch allen Äcker und Weinberge geben? Wird er euch alle zu Obersten über tausend und zu Obersten über hundert machen,8dass ihr euch alle gegen mich verschworen habt und niemand es meinen Ohren offenbarte, als mein Sohn einen Bund mit dem Sohn Isais gemacht hat? Und ist niemand unter euch, dem es um meinetwillen leidtat und der es meinen Ohren offenbarte, dass mein eigener Sohn meinen Knecht gegen mich aufgewiegelt hat und mir nachstellt, wie es heute [offenbar] ist?9Da antwortete Doeg, der Edomiter, der neben Sauls Knechten stand, und sprach: Ich sah den Sohn Isais, als er nach Nob zu Achimelech, dem Sohn Achitubs kam.10Der befragte den HERRN für ihn und gab ihm Brot, und das Schwert Goliaths, des Philisters, gab er ihm auch!11Da sandte der König hin und ließ Achimelech rufen, den Sohn Achitubs, den Priester, und das ganze Haus seines Vaters, die Priester, die in Nob waren; und sie kamen alle zum König.12Und Saul sprach: Höre doch, du Sohn Achitubs! Und er antwortete: Hier bin ich, mein Herr!13Und Saul sprach zu ihm: Warum habt ihr einen Bund gegen mich gemacht, du und der Sohn Isais, dass du ihm Brot und ein Schwert gegeben und Gott für ihn befragt hast, sodass er sich gegen mich auflehnt und mir nachstellt, wie es heute [offenbar] ist?14Da antwortete Achimelech dem König und sprach: Und wer ist unter allen deinen Knechten so treu wie David, der dazu noch der Schwiegersohn des Königs ist, der Zutritt zu deinem geheimen Rat hat und in deinem Haus so hoch angesehen ist?15Habe ich denn erst heute angefangen, Gott für ihn zu befragen? Das sei ferne von mir! Der König lege dies weder seinem Knecht noch dem ganzen Haus meines Vaters zur Last; denn dein Knecht hat von alledem nichts gewusst, weder Kleines noch Großes!16Aber der König sprach: Du musst gewisslich sterben, Achimelech, du und das ganze Haus deines Vaters!17Und der König sprach zu den Läufern, die vor ihm standen: Tretet herzu und tötet die Priester des HERRN! Denn ihre Hand ist auch mit David; und obgleich sie wussten, dass er floh, haben sie es mir doch nicht eröffnet! Aber die Knechte des Königs wollten ihre Hand nicht an die Priester des HERRN legen, um sie zu erschlagen.18Da sprach der König zu Doeg: Tritt du herzu und erschlage die Priester! Und Doeg, der Edomiter, trat herzu und fiel über die Priester her und tötete an jenem Tag 85 Männer, die das leinene Ephod trugen.19Und Nob, die Stadt der Priester, schlug er mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, vom Mann bis zur Frau, vom Kind bis zum Säugling, sowie Rinder, Esel und Schafe, mit der Schärfe des Schwertes.20Es entkam aber ein Sohn Achimelechs, des Sohnes Achitubs, der hieß Abjatar, und er floh zu David.21Und Abjatar berichtete David, dass Saul die Priester des HERRN niedergemacht habe.22David aber sprach zu Abjatar: Ich wusste wohl an jenem Tag, als Doeg, der Edomiter, dort war, dass er es Saul gewiss sagen werde. Ich bin schuldig an allen Seelen aus dem Haus deines Vaters!23Bleibe bei mir und fürchte dich nicht. Denn der, welcher nach meinem Leben trachtet, der trachtet auch nach deinem Leben; doch bei mir bist du gut beschützt!

1David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him.2And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul,* gathered to him. And he became commander over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.3And David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother stay* with you, till I know what God will do for me.”4And he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.5Then the prophet Gad said to David, “Do not remain in the stronghold; depart, and go into the land of Judah.” So David departed and went into the forest of Hereth.
Saul Kills the Priests at Nob
6Now Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men who were with him. Saul was sitting at Gibeah under the tamarisk tree on the height with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him.7And Saul said to his servants who stood about him, “Hear now, people of Benjamin; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds,8that all of you have conspired against me? No one discloses to me when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse. None of you is sorry for me or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day.”9Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, “I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub,10and he inquired of the Lord for him and gave him provisions and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”11Then the king sent to summon Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests who were at Nob, and all of them came to the king.12And Saul said, “Hear now, son of Ahitub.” And he answered, “Here I am, my lord.”13And Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword and have inquired of God for him, so that he has risen against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?”14Then Ahimelech answered the king, “And who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, and captain over* your bodyguard, and honored in your house?15Is today the first time that I have inquired of God for him? No! Let not the king impute anything to his servant or to all the house of my father, for your servant has known nothing of all this, much or little.”16And the king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house.”17And the king said to the guard who stood about him, “Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand also is with David, and they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king would not put out their hand to strike the priests of the Lord.18Then the king said to Doeg, “You turn and strike the priests.” And Doeg the Edomite turned and struck down the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five persons who wore the linen ephod.19And Nob, the city of the priests, he put to the sword; both man and woman, child and infant, ox, donkey and sheep, he put to the sword.20But one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.21And Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the priests of the Lord.22And David said to Abiathar, “I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have occasioned the death of all the persons of your father’s house.23Stay with me; do not be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life. With me you shall be in safekeeping.”
