Jakob flieht nach Paddan-Aram

1 Da rief Isaak den Jakob, segnete ihn und gebot ihm und sprach zu ihm: Nimm keine Frau von den Töchtern Kanaans! 2 Mache dich auf und zieh nach Paddan-Aram, in das Haus Bethuels, des Vaters deiner Mutter, und nimm dir von dort eine Frau von den Töchtern Labans, des Bruders deiner Mutter! 3 Und Gott, der Allmächtige, segne dich und mache dich fruchtbar und mehre dich, dass du zu einer Menge von Völkern werdest, 4 und er gebe dir den Segen Abrahams, dir und deinem Samen mit dir, dass du das Land in Besitz nimmst, in dem du als Fremdling lebst, das Gott dem Abraham gegeben hat! 5 So entließ Isaak den Jakob, und er zog nach Paddan-Aram zu Laban, dem Sohn Bethuels, dem Aramäer, dem Bruder der Rebekka, der Mutter Jakobs und Esaus.

Esaus dritte Frau

6 Als nun Esau sah, dass Isaak den Jakob gesegnet und ihn nach Paddan-Aram entlassen hatte, damit er sich von dort eine Frau hole, und dass er, als er ihn segnete, ihm gebot und sprach: »Du sollst keine Frau von den Töchtern Kanaans nehmen«, 7 und dass Jakob seinem Vater und seiner Mutter gehorsam war und nach Paddan-Aram zog, 8 als Esau auch sah, dass Isaak, sein Vater, die Töchter Kanaans nicht gerne sah, 9 da ging Esau hin zu Ismael und nahm zu seinen Frauen noch Mahalath als Frau hinzu, die Tochter Ismaels, des Sohnes Abrahams, die Schwester Nebajoths.

10 Jakob aber zog von Beerscheba aus und wanderte nach Haran. 11 Und er kam an einen Ort, wo er über Nacht blieb; denn die Sonne war untergegangen. Und er nahm von den Steinen jenes Orts und legte sie unter sein Haupt und legte sich an dem Ort schlafen. 12 Und er hatte einen Traum; und siehe, eine Leiter war auf die Erde gestellt, die reichte mit der Spitze bis an den Himmel. Und siehe, auf ihr stiegen die Engel Gottes auf und nieder. 13 Und siehe, der HERR stand über ihr und sprach: Ich bin der HERR, der Gott deines Vaters Abraham und der Gott Isaaks; das Land, auf dem du liegst, will ich dir und deinem Samen geben. 14 Und dein Same soll werden wie der Staub der Erde, und nach Westen, Osten, Norden und Süden sollst du dich ausbreiten; und in dir und in deinem Samen sollen gesegnet werden alle Geschlechter der Erde! 15 Und siehe, ich bin mit dir, und ich will dich behüten überall, wo du hinziehst, und dich wieder in dieses Land bringen. Denn ich will dich nicht verlassen, bis ich vollbracht habe, was ich dir zugesagt habe! 16 Als nun Jakob von seinem Schlaf erwachte, sprach er: Wahrlich, der HERR ist an diesem Ort, und ich wusste es nicht! 17 Und er fürchtete sich und sprach: Wie furchtgebietend ist diese Stätte! Hier ist nichts anderes als das Haus Gottes, und dies ist die Pforte des Himmels! 18 Und Jakob stand am Morgen früh auf und nahm den Stein, den er unter sein Haupt gelegt hatte, und richtete ihn auf zu einem Gedenkstein und goss Öl auf seine Spitze, 19 und er gab diesem Ort den Namen Bethel*; zuvor aber hieß die Stadt Lus. 20 Und Jakob legte ein Gelübde ab und sprach: Wenn Gott mit mir sein und mich behüten wird auf dem Weg, den ich gehe, und mir Brot zu essen geben wird und Kleider anzuziehen 21 und mich wieder mit Frieden heim zu meinem Vater bringt, so soll der HERR mein Gott sein; 22 und dieser Stein, den ich als Gedenkstein aufgerichtet habe, soll ein Haus Gottes werden; und von allem, was du mir gibst, will ich dir gewisslich den Zehnten geben!

Jacob Sent to Laban

1 Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women. 2 Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father, and take as your wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother. 3 God Almighty* bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples. 4 May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your offspring with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings that God gave to Abraham!” 5 Thus Isaac sent Jacob away. And he went to Paddan-aram, to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

Esau Marries an Ishmaelite

6 Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women,” 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram. 8 So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father, 9 Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth.

Jacob’s Dream

10 Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. 12 And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder* set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! 13 And behold, the Lord stood above it* and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. 14 Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” 17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” 18 So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. 19 He called the name of that place Bethel,* but the name of the city was Luz at the first. 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, 21 so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God, 22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.”
