Und wir sitzen still und entreißen es nicht der Hand des Königs von Aram?4Und er sprach zu Josaphat: Willst du mit mir nach Ramot in Gilead in den Krieg ziehen? Und Josaphat sprach zum König von Israel: Ich will sein wie du, mein Volk soll sein wie dein Volk, meine Pferde wie deine Pferde!5Und Josaphat sprach zum König von Israel: Befrage doch heute das Wort des HERRN!6Da versammelte der König von Israel die Propheten, etwa 400 Mann, und sprach zu ihnen: Soll ich nach Ramot in Gilead in den Krieg ziehen, oder soll ich es lassen? Sie sprachen: Zieh hinauf, und der Herr wird sie in die Hand des Königs geben!7Josaphat aber sprach: Ist hier kein Prophet des HERRN mehr, den wir fragen könnten?8Der König von Israel aber sprach zu Josaphat: Es gibt noch einen Mann, durch den man den HERRN befragen kann; aber ich hasse ihn, denn er weissagt mir nichts Gutes, sondern [nur] Böses: Micha, der Sohn Jimlas! Josaphat aber antwortete: Der König rede nicht so!9Da rief der König von Israel einen Kämmerer und sprach: Bring Micha, den Sohn Jimlas, rasch her!10Und der König von Israel und Josaphat, der König von Juda, saßen jeder auf seinem Thron, in königliche Gewänder gekleidet, auf dem Platz am Eingang des Tores von Samaria, und alle Propheten weissagten vor ihnen.11Und Zedekia, der Sohn Kenaanas, hatte sich eiserne Hörner gemacht und sprach: So spricht der HERR: Hiermit wirst du die Aramäer niederstoßen, bis du sie vernichtet hast!12Und alle Propheten weissagten ebenso und sprachen: Zieh hinauf nach Ramot in Gilead, und es wird dir gelingen, denn der HERR wird es in die Hand des Königs geben!13Der Bote aber, der hingegangen war, um Micha zu rufen, redete mit ihm und sprach: Siehe, die Worte der Propheten verkünden einstimmig Gutes für den König; so lass nun dein Wort auch sein wie das Wort eines jeden von ihnen und rede Gutes!14Micha aber sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt, ich will reden, was mir der HERR sagen wird!
Micha weissagt den Tod Ahabs
15Und als er zum König kam, sprach der König zu ihm: Micha, sollen wir nach Ramot in Gilead in den Krieg ziehen, oder sollen wir es lassen? Und er sprach zu ihm: Zieh hinauf! Es soll dir gelingen, denn der HERR wird es in die Hand des Königs geben!16Da sprach der König zu ihm: Wie oft muss ich dich beschwören, dass du mir nichts als die Wahrheit sagen sollst im Namen des HERRN?17Da sagte er: Ich sah ganz Israel auf den Bergen zerstreut wie Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben; und der HERR sprach: »Diese haben keinen Herrn; ein jeder kehre wieder heim in Frieden!«18Da sprach der König von Israel zu Josaphat: Habe ich dir nicht gesagt, dass er mir nichts Gutes weissagt, sondern [nur] Böses?19[Micha] aber sprach: Darum höre das Wort des HERRN! Ich sah den HERRN auf seinem Thron sitzen und das ganze Heer des Himmels bei ihm stehen, zu seiner Rechten und zu seiner Linken.20Und der HERR sprach: »Wer will Ahab betören, dass er hinaufzieht und bei Ramot in Gilead fällt?« Und einer sagte dies, der andere das.21Da trat ein Geist hervor und stellte sich vor den HERRN und sprach: »Ich will ihn betören!« Und der HERR sprach zu ihm: »Womit?«22Und er sprach: »Ich will hingehen und ein Lügengeist sein im Mund aller seiner Propheten!« Er sprach: »Du sollst ihn betören, und du wirst es auch ausführen! Geh hin und mache es so!«23Und nun siehe, der HERR hat einen Lügengeist in den Mund aller dieser deiner Propheten gelegt; und der HERR hat Unheil über dich geredet!24Da trat Zedekia, der Sohn Kenaanas, herzu und gab Micha einen Backenstreich und sagte: Ist etwa der Geist des HERRN von mir gewichen, um mit dir zu reden?25Micha aber sprach: Siehe, du wirst es sehen an dem Tag, an dem du in die innerste Kammer gehen wirst, um dich zu verbergen!26Da sprach der König von Israel: Nimm Micha und führe ihn wieder zu Amon, dem Obersten der Stadt, und zu Joas, dem Sohn des Königs,27und sage: So spricht der König: Legt diesen in den Kerker und speist ihn mit Brot der Drangsal und mit Wasser der Drangsal, bis ich in Frieden wiederkomme!28Micha aber sprach: Wenn du in Frieden wiederkommst, dann hat der HERR nicht durch mich geredet! Und dann sagte er: Hört es, ihr Völker alle!
Ahabs Niederlage und Tod
29Da zogen der König von Israel und Josaphat, der König von Juda, hinauf nach Ramot in Gilead.30Und der König von Israel sprach zu Josaphat: Ich will verkleidet in den Kampf ziehen; du aber ziehe deine Gewänder an! So verkleidete sich der König von Israel und zog in den Kampf.31Aber der König von Aram hatte den 32 Obersten über seine Streitwagen geboten und gesagt: Ihr sollt weder gegen Kleine noch Große kämpfen, sondern nur gegen den König von Israel!32Und es geschah, als die Obersten der Streitwagen Josaphat sahen, da sprachen sie: Gewiss ist dieser der König von Israel! Und sie wandten sich zum Kampf gegen ihn; und Josaphat schrie.33Und es geschah, als die Obersten der Streitwagen sahen, dass er nicht der König von Israel war, da ließen sie von ihm ab.34Ein Mann aber spannte den Bogen aufs Geratewohl und traf den König von Israel zwischen den Tragbändern des Panzers und dem Panzer. Da sprach er zu seinem Wagenlenker: Wende um und bringe mich aus dem Heer; denn ich bin verwundet!35Aber der Kampf wurde immer heftiger an jenem Tag. So blieb der König auf dem Streitwagen stehen, den Aramäern gegenüber, und er starb am Abend, und das Blut floss von der Wunde mitten in den Streitwagen.36Und als die Sonne unterging, ertönte der Ruf durch das Lager: Jedermann gehe in seine Stadt und in sein Land!37Und so starb der König; und er kam nach Samaria, und man begrub den König in Samaria.38Und als man den Streitwagen beim Teich von Samaria wusch, da leckten die Hunde sein Blut, während die Huren [dort] badeten, nach dem Wort des HERRN, das er geredet hatte.39Was aber mehr von Ahab zu sagen ist, und alles, was er getan hat, und das elfenbeinerne Haus, das er baute, und alle Städte, die er erbaut hat, steht das nicht geschrieben im Buch der Chronik der Könige von Israel?40So legte sich Ahab zu seinen Vätern; und Ahasja, sein Sohn, wurde König an seiner Stelle.
König Josaphat von Juda
41Josaphat aber, der Sohn Asas, war König über Juda geworden im vierten Jahr [der Regierung] Ahabs, des Königs von Israel.42Und Josaphat war 35 Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte 25 Jahre lang in Jerusalem. Und der Name seiner Mutter war Asuba, eine Tochter Silhis.43Und er wandelte in allen Wegen seines Vaters Asa und wich nicht davon, indem er tat, was recht war in den Augen des HERRN.44Doch kamen die Höhen nicht weg; denn das Volk opferte und räucherte noch auf den Höhen.45Und Josaphat schloss Frieden mit dem König von Israel.46Was aber mehr von Josaphat zu sagen ist, und seine Macht, die er ausgeübt, und wie er gekämpft hat, ist das nicht aufgezeichnet im Buch der Chronik der Könige von Juda?47Er rottete auch die noch übrigen Tempelhurer aus dem Land aus, die zur Zeit seines Vaters Asa übrig geblieben waren.48Und es gab [damals] keinen König in Edom; ein Statthalter regierte.49Und Josaphat hatte Tarsis schiffe machen lassen, die nach Ophir fahren sollten, um Gold zu holen; aber sie fuhren nicht, denn sie zerschellten in Ezjon-Geber.50Damals sprach Ahasja, der Sohn Ahabs, zu Josaphat: Lass meine Knechte mit deinen Knechten auf den Schiffen fahren! Josaphat aber wollte nicht.51Und Josaphat legte sich zu seinen Vätern und wurde begraben bei seinen Vätern in der Stadt Davids, seines Vaters. Und Joram, sein Sohn, wurde König an seiner Stelle.
König Ahasja von Israel
52Ahasja, der Sohn Ahabs, wurde König über Israel in Samaria, im siebzehnten Jahr [der Regierung] Josaphats, des Königs von Juda, und er regierte zwei Jahre lang über Israel.53Er tat, was böse war in den Augen des HERRN, und wandelte auf dem Weg seines Vaters und seiner Mutter und auf dem Weg Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats, der Israel zur Sünde verführt hatte.54Und er diente dem Baal und betete ihn an und erzürnte den HERRN, den Gott Israels, ganz wie es sein Vater getan hatte.

Ahab and the False Prophets
1For three years Syria and Israel continued without war.2But in the third year Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.3And the king of Israel said to his servants, “Do you know that Ramoth-gilead belongs to us, and we keep quiet and do not take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”4And he said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle at Ramoth-gilead?” And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”5And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Inquire first for the word of the Lord.”6Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go to battle against Ramoth-gilead, or shall I refrain?” And they said, “Go up, for the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.”7But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not here another prophet of the Lord of whom we may inquire?”8And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord, Micaiah the son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but evil.” And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say so.”9Then the king of Israel summoned an officer and said, “Bring quickly Micaiah the son of Imlah.”10Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting on their thrones, arrayed in their robes, at the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets were prophesying before them.11And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made for himself horns of iron and said, “Thus says the Lord, ‘With these you shall push the Syrians until they are destroyed.’”12And all the prophets prophesied so and said, “Go up to Ramoth-gilead and triumph; the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.”
Micaiah Prophesies Against Ahab
13And the messenger who went to summon Micaiah said to him, “Behold, the words of the prophets with one accord are favorable to the king. Let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably.”14But Micaiah said, “As the Lord lives, what the Lord says to me, that I will speak.”15And when he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we refrain?” And he answered him, “Go up and triumph; the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.”16But the king said to him, “How many times shall I make you swear that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?”17And he said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And the Lord said, ‘These have no master; let each return to his home in peace.’”18And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”19And Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing beside him on his right hand and on his left;20and the Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one said one thing, and another said another.21Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, saying, ‘I will entice him.’22And the Lord said to him, ‘By what means?’ And he said, ‘I will go out, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And he said, ‘You are to entice him, and you shall succeed; go out and do so.’23Now therefore behold, the Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; the Lord has declared disaster for you.”24Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, “How did the Spirit of the Lord go from me to speak to you?”25And Micaiah said, “Behold, you shall see on that day when you go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.”26And the king of Israel said, “Seize Micaiah, and take him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son,27and say, ‘Thus says the king, “Put this fellow in prison and feed him meager rations of bread and water, until I come in peace.”’”28And Micaiah said, “If you return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me.” And he said, “Hear, all you peoples!”
Ahab Killed in Battle
29So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.30And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your robes.” And the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.31Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, “Fight with neither small nor great, but only with the king of Israel.”32And when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “It is surely the king of Israel.” So they turned to fight against him. And Jehoshaphat cried out.33And when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.34But a certain man drew his bow at random* and struck the king of Israel between the scale armor and the breastplate. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around and carry me out of the battle, for I am wounded.”35And the battle continued that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, until at evening he died. And the blood of the wound flowed into the bottom of the chariot.36And about sunset a cry went through the army, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country!”37So the king died, and was brought to Samaria. And they buried the king in Samaria.38And they washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood, and the prostitutes washed themselves in it, according to the word of the Lord that he had spoken.39Now the rest of the acts of Ahab and all that he did, and the ivory house that he built and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?40So Ahab slept with his fathers, and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.
Jehoshaphat Reigns in Judah
41Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.42Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.43He walked in all the way of Asa his father. He did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord. Yet the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and made offerings on the high places.44Jehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel.45Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?46And from the land he exterminated the remnant of the male cult prostitutes who remained in the days of his father Asa.47There was no king in Edom; a deputy was king.48Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they did not go, for the ships were wrecked at Ezion-geber.49Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships,” but Jehoshaphat was not willing.50And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father, and Jehoram his son reigned in his place.
Ahaziah Reigns in Israel
51Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel.52He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and walked in the way of his father and in the way of his mother and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.53He served Baal and worshiped him and provoked the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger in every way that his father had done.
