Despre divorț

1 După ce a terminat de spus aceste cuvinte, Isus a plecat din Galileea și a venit în hotarele Iudeei, dincolo de Iordan. 2 L‑au urmat mulțimi mari de oameni și acolo El i‑a vindecat pe cei bolnavi. 3 Niște farisei au venit la El ca să‑L pună la încercare și au zis: – Îi este îngăduit unui bărbat să divorțeze de soția lui din orice motiv? 4 Isus, răspunzând, a zis: – Oare n‑ați citit că, de la început, Creatorul „i‑a făcut bărbat și femeie“*? 5 Și apoi a zis: „De aceea bărbatul își va lăsa tatăl și mama și se va alipi de soția lui, iar cei doi vor fi un singur trup.“* 6 Așa că nu mai sunt doi, ci un singur trup. Deci, ceea ce Dumnezeu a unit* omul să nu despartă! 7 Ei I‑au zis: – Atunci de ce a poruncit Moise ca soțul să‑i dea soției o scrisoare de despărțire și să divorțeze de ea*? 8 Isus a zis: – Din cauza inimilor voastre împietrite v‑a dat voie Moise să divorțați de soțiile voastre, însă la început nu a fost așa. 9 Dar Eu vă spun că oricine divorțează de soția lui, în afară de caz de curvie*, și se căsătorește cu alta, comite adulter. 10 Ucenicii I‑au zis: – Dacă acesta este motivul* bărbatului față de soție, nu este de folos să te căsătorești! 11 Dar El le‑a zis: – Nu toți primesc cuvântul acesta, ci numai aceia cărora le‑a fost dat. 12 Căci există eunuci care s‑au născut așa din pântecul mamei lor, există eunuci care au fost făcuți eunuci de către oameni și există eunuci care s‑au făcut ei înșiși eunuci* de dragul Împărăției Cerurilor. Cel ce poate să primească cuvântul acesta, să‑l primească!

Isus și copilașii

13 Atunci au fost aduși la El niște copilași, ca să‑Și pună mâinile peste ei și să Se roage pentru ei, dar ucenicii i‑au mustrat. 14 Isus însă le‑a zis: „Lăsați copilașii și nu‑i opriți să vină la Mine, pentru că Împărăția Cerurilor este a celor ca ei!“ 15 Apoi Și‑a pus mâinile peste ei și a plecat de acolo.

Isus și tânărul bogat

16 Și iată că un om, apropiindu‑se de Isus, a zis: – Învățătorule, ce lucru bun să fac, ca să am viață veșnică? 17 Isus i‑a zis: – De ce Mă întrebi despre „ce lucru bun“? Unul e Cel Ce este bun. Dar dacă vrei să intri în viață, păzește poruncile! 18 El i‑a zis: – Care? Isus a zis: – „Să nu ucizi“, „Să nu comiți adulter“, „Să nu furi“, „Să nu depui mărturie falsă“, 19 „Cinstește‑i pe tatăl tău și pe mama ta“* și „Să‑l iubești pe semenul tău ca pe tine însuți“*. 20 Tânărul I‑a spus: – Pe toate acestea le‑am păzit. Ce‑mi mai lipsește? 21 Isus i‑a spus: – Dacă vrei să fii desăvârșit, du‑te, vinde‑ți averile și dă săracilor, și vei avea astfel o comoară în ceruri. Apoi vino, urmează‑Mă! 22 Când a auzit cuvintele acestea, tânărul a plecat întristat, pentru că avea multe averi. 23 Isus le‑a zis ucenicilor Săi: – Adevărat vă spun, cu greu va intra cel bogat în Împărăția Cerurilor! 24 Din nou vă spun, este mai ușor să treacă o cămilă prin urechea acului, decât să intre cel bogat în Împărăția lui Dumnezeu! 25 Când au auzit lucrul acesta, ucenicii au rămas foarte uimiți și au zis: – Atunci cine poate fi mântuit? 26 Uitându‑Se la ei, Isus le‑a zis: – Lucrul acesta este imposibil pentru oameni, dar pentru Dumnezeu toate lucrurile sunt posibile. 27 Atunci Petru, răspunzând, I‑a zis: – Iată, noi am lăsat totul și Te‑am urmat. Noi ce vom avea? 28 Isus le‑a zis: – Adevărat vă spun că la reînnoirea tuturor lucrurilor, când Fiul Omului va sta pe tronul slavei Sale, voi, cei care M‑ați urmat, veți sta, de asemenea, pe douăsprezece tronuri și le veți judeca pe cele douăsprezece seminții ale lui Israel. 29 Și oricine își lasă case sau frați sau surori sau tată sau mamă sau soție sau copii sau ogoare de dragul Numelui Meu, va primi de o sută de ori mai mult și va moșteni viața veșnică. 30 Dar mulți dintre cei dintâi vor fi cei din urmă, iar cei din urmă vor fi cei dintâi.

Jesus teaches about divorce

1 When Jesus finished saying these things, he left Galilee. He went into the area of Judea on the other side of the River Jordan. 2 Large crowds followed him. He healed them there. 3 Some Pharisees came to test Jesus. They asked, ‘Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?’ 4 Jesus replied, ‘Haven’t you read that in the beginning the Creator “made them male and female”? 5 He said, “That’s why a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. The two will become one.” 6 They are no longer two, but one. So no one should separate what God has joined together.’ 7 They asked, ‘Then why did Moses command that a man can give his wife a letter of divorce and send her away?’ 8 Jesus replied, ‘Moses let you divorce your wives because you were stubborn. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 Here is what I tell you. Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery. A man may divorce his wife only if she has not been faithful to him.’ 10 Here is what the disciples said to him. ‘If that’s the way it is between a husband and wife, it is better not to get married.’ 11 Jesus replied, ‘Not everyone can accept the idea of staying single. Only those who have been helped to live without getting married can accept it. 12 Some men are not able to have children because they were born that way. Some have been made that way by other people. Others have chosen to live that way in order to serve the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.’

Little children are brought to Jesus

13 Some people brought little children to Jesus. They wanted him to place his hands on the children and pray for them. But the disciples told them not to do it. 14 Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me. Don’t keep them away. The kingdom of heaven belongs to people like them.’ 15 Jesus placed his hands on them to bless them. Then he went on from there.

Rich people and the kingdom of God

16 Just then, a man came up to Jesus. He asked, ‘Teacher, what good thing must I do to receive eternal life?’ 17 ‘Why do you ask me about what is good?’ Jesus replied. ‘There is only one who is good. If you want to enter the kingdom, obey the commandments.’ 18 ‘Which ones?’ the man asked. Jesus said, ‘ “Do not murder. Do not commit adultery. Do not steal. Do not be a false witness. 19 Honour your father and mother.” And “love your neighbour as you love yourself.” ’ 20 ‘I have obeyed all those commandments,’ the young man said. ‘What else do I need to do?’ 21 Jesus answered, ‘If you want to be perfect, go and sell everything you have. Give the money to those who are poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.’ 22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad. He was very rich. 23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘What I’m about to tell you is true. It is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. But it is even harder for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.’ 25 When the disciples heard this, they were really amazed. They asked, ‘Then who can be saved?’ 26 Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With people, this is impossible. But with God, all things are possible.’ 27 Peter answered him, ‘We have left everything to follow you! What reward will be given to us?’ 28 ‘What I’m about to tell you is true,’ Jesus said to them. ‘When all things are made new, the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne. Then you who have followed me will also sit on 12 thrones. You will judge the 12 tribes of Israel. 29 Suppose anyone has left houses, brothers or sisters, father or mother, husband or wife, children or fields because of me. Anyone who has done that will receive 100 times as much. They will also receive eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last. And many who are last will be first.
