Isus hrănește peste patru mii de oameni

1 În zilele acelea s‑a adunat din nou o mare mulțime de oameni și nu aveau ce să mănânce. Isus i‑a chemat pe ucenici și le‑a zis: 2 – Mi‑e milă de cei din mulțime, pentru că sunt deja trei zile de când ei stau cu Mine și n‑au ce să mănânce, 3 iar dacă îi las să plece acasă flămânzi, vor leșina pe drum, mai ales că unii dintre ei au venit de departe. 4 Ucenicii Lui I‑au răspuns: – De unde ar putea lua cineva pâini aici, în pustie, ca să‑i sature pe acești oameni? 5 Isus i‑a întrebat: – Câte pâini aveți? Ei au zis: – Șapte. 6 Isus i‑a poruncit mulțimii să se așeze pe pământ. Și după ce a luat cele șapte pâini și a mulțumit, le‑a frânt și le‑a dat ucenicilor Săi ca să le împartă, iar ei le‑au împărțit mulțimii. 7 Mai aveau și câțiva peștișori. Fariseii cer un semn

11 Fariseii au venit și au început să discute aprins cu Isus, căutând un semn din cer* de la El ca să‑L pună la încercare. 12 Însă Isus, oftând adânc în duhul Său, a zis: „De ce caută această generație un semn? Adevărat vă spun că acestei generații nu i se va da niciun semn.“ 13 Apoi i‑a lăsat, S‑a urcat iarăși în barcă și S‑a dus de cealaltă parte a mării.

Drojdia fariseilor și a lui Irod

14 Ucenicii uitaseră să ia pâini și nu aveau cu ei în barcă decât o pâine. 15 Isus le‑a poruncit, zicând: – Aveți grijă, feriți‑vă de drojdia fariseilor și de drojdia lui Irod! 16 Ei vorbeau unii cu alții despre faptul că nu aveau pâini. 17 Cunoscând aceasta, Isus le‑a zis: – De ce vorbiți între voi că n‑aveți pâini? Tot nu înțelegeți, nici nu pricepeți? Aveți inima împietrită? 18 Aveți ochi, dar nu vedeți și aveți urechi, dar nu auziți?* Nu vă mai aduceți aminte, 19 atunci când am frânt cele cinci pâini la cei cinci mii de oameni, câte coșnițe pline cu firimituri ați ridicat? Isus vindecă un orb la Betsaida

22 Când au ajuns în Betsaida, I‑au adus un orb și L‑au rugat să Se atingă de el. 23 Isus l‑a luat pe orb de mână și l‑a dus afară din sat. A scuipat pe ochii acestuia, Și‑a pus mâinile peste el și l‑a întrebat: – Vezi ceva? 24 Omul s‑a uitat și a zis: – Văd niște oameni, dar mi se par ca niște pomi care umblă. 25 Atunci Isus Și‑a pus din nou mâinile peste ochii acestuia, iar el a privit țintă și i‑a revenit vederea. 27 Isus S‑a dus împreună cu ucenicii Lui în satele Cezareei lui Filip*. Pe drum, Isus i‑a întrebat pe ucenicii Săi, zicându‑le: – Cine zic oamenii că sunt Eu? 28 Ei I‑au răspuns, zicând: – Unii zic că ești Ioan Botezătorul, alții zic că ești Ilie, iar alții spun despre Tine că ești unul dintre profeți. 29 El i‑a întrebat: – Dar voi, cine ziceți că sunt Eu? Isus vorbește despre moartea și învierea Sa

31 Apoi a început să‑i învețe că Fiul Omului trebuie să sufere multe* și să fie respins de către bătrâni*, de către conducătorii preoților și de către cărturari, să fie omorât, iar după trei zile să învie. 32 Le vorbea deschis despre aceasta. Prețul uceniciei

34 Apoi i‑a chemat pe cei din mulțime alături de ucenicii Săi și le‑a zis: „Dacă vrea cineva să vină după Mine, să se lepede de sine, să‑și ia crucea și să Mă urmeze. 35 Căci oricine vrea să‑și salveze viața, o va pierde, dar cel ce‑și pierde viața de dragul Meu și de dragul Evangheliei, o va salva. 36 Într-adevăr, la ce i‑ar folosi unui om să câștige întreaga lume, dacă și‑ar pierde sufletul? 37 Sau ce va da un om în schimbul sufletului său? 38 Căci de cel ce îi va fi rușine de Mine și de cuvintele Mele, în această generație adulteră și păcătoasă, de acela Îi va fi rușine și Fiului Omului când va veni în slava Tatălui Său, cu sfinții îngeri.“

Jesus feeds the four thousand

1 During those days another large crowd gathered. They had nothing to eat. So Jesus called for his disciples to come to him. He said, 2 ‘I feel deep concern for these people. They have already been with me three days. They don’t have anything to eat. 3 If I send them away hungry, they will become too weak on their way home. Some of them have come from far away.’ 4 His disciples answered him. ‘There is nothing here,’ they said. ‘Where can anyone get enough bread to feed them?’ 5 ‘How many loaves do you have?’ Jesus asked. ‘Seven’, they replied. 6 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. He took the seven loaves and gave thanks to God. Then he broke them and gave them to his disciples. They passed the pieces of bread around to the people. 7 The disciples also had a few small fish. Jesus gave thanks for them too. He told the disciples to pass them around. 8 The people ate and were satisfied. After that, the disciples picked up seven baskets of leftover pieces. 9 About 4,000 people were there. After Jesus sent them away, 10 he got into a boat with his disciples. And watch out for the yeast of Herod.’ 16 They talked about this with each other. They said, ‘He must be saying this because we don’t have any bread.’ 17 Jesus knew what they were saying. So he asked them, ‘Why are you talking about having no bread? Why can’t you see or understand? Are you stubborn? 18 Do you have eyes and still don’t see? Do you have ears and still don’t hear? Jesus heals a blind man at Bethsaida

22 Jesus and his disciples came to Bethsaida. Some people brought a blind man to him. They begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand. Then he led him outside the village. He spat on the man’s eyes and placed his hands on him. ‘Do you see anything?’ Jesus asked. 24 The man looked up. He said, ‘I see people. They look like trees walking around.’ 25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened so that he could see again. He saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home. He told him, ‘Don’t even go into the village.’

Peter says that Jesus is the Messiah

27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, ‘Who do people say I am?’ 28 They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist. Others say Elijah. Still others say one of the prophets.’ 29 ‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah.’ 30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.

Jesus tells about his coming death

31 Jesus then began to teach his disciples. He taught them that the Son of Man must suffer many things. He taught them that the elders would not accept him. The chief priests and the teachers of the law would not accept him either. He must be killed and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke clearly about this. Peter took Jesus to one side and began to scold him. 33 Jesus turned and looked at his disciples. He scolded Peter. ‘Get behind me, Satan!’ he said. ‘You are not thinking about the things God cares about. Instead, you are thinking only about the things humans care about.’

You must pick up your cross

34 Jesus called the crowd to him along with his disciples. He said, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must say no to themselves. They must pick up their cross and follow me. 35 Whoever wants to save their life will lose it. But whoever loses their life for me and for the good news will save it. 36 What good is it if someone gains the whole world but loses their soul? 37 Or what can anyone trade for their soul? 38 Suppose anyone is ashamed of me and my words among these adulterous and sinful people. Then the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.’
