Isus și tradiția bătrânilor

1 Fariseii și unii dintre cărturarii care veniseră de la Ierusalim s‑au adunat la El 2 și i‑au văzut pe câțiva dintre ucenicii Lui că mănâncă pâine cu mâinile întinate, adică nespălate. 3 (Căci fariseii și toți iudeii nu mănâncă dacă nu‑și spală cu atenție mâinile,* ținând astfel tradiția bătrânilor*. 4 Iar când se întorc de la piață, nu mănâncă dacă nu s‑au spălat*. Și mai sunt multe alte lucruri pe care le‑au primit ei să le țină, cum ar fi: spălarea paharelor, a urcioarelor, a vaselor de bronz și a paturilor.) 5 Atunci fariseii și cărturarii L‑au întrebat pe Isus: – De ce ucenicii Tăi nu umblă potrivit cu tradiția bătrânilor, ci mănâncă cu mâinile întinate? 6 El le‑a răspuns: – Ipocriților! Bine a profețit Isaia despre voi, așa cum este scris: „Poporul acesta Mă cinstește cu buzele, dar inima lui este departe de Mine! 7 Degeaba însă Mi se închină ei, dând* ca învățături niște porunci de‑ale oamenilor!“* 8 Voi, lăsând porunca lui Dumnezeu, țineți strâns tradiția oamenilor: spălarea urcioarelor și a cănilor și multe alte lucruri de felul acesta pe care le faceți. 9 Apoi le‑a zis: – Și ați respins frumos porunca lui Dumnezeu ca să păstrați* tradiția voastră! 10 Căci Moise a zis: „Cinstește‑i pe tatăl tău și pe mama ta*“ și „Cel ce își vorbește de rău tatăl sau mama să fie pedepsit cu moartea.“* 11 Însă voi ziceți: „Dacă un om spune tatălui său sau mamei sale: «Orice ajutor ai putea primi de la mine este korban*, – adică este deja închinat ca dar lui Dumnezeu»“ –, 12 pe acela nu‑l mai lăsați să facă nimic pentru tatăl sau mama lui!* 13 Și desființați astfel Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu prin tradiția* voastră pe care o răspândiți. Și faceți multe alte lucruri de felul acesta.

Lucrurile care îl întinează pe om

14 Isus a chemat din nou mulțimea și a zis: „Ascultați‑Mă cu toții și înțelegeți! 15 Nu există nimic din afara omului, care, intrând în el, să‑l poată întina, ci lucrurile care ies din om, acelea îl întinează!“ 16 Dacă are cineva urechi de auzit, să audă! 17 După ce a lăsat mulțimea și a intrat în casă, ucenicii Lui L‑au întrebat despre pildă. 18 El le‑a zis: „Și voi sunteți tot fără pricepere? Nu înțelegeți că orice intră în om din afară nu‑l poate întina, 19 fiindcă nu intră în inima lui, ci în stomac, iar apoi iese în latrină, el dând afară astfel toată mâncarea?“* 20 Apoi a zis: „Ceea ce iese din om, aceea îl întinează pe om. 21 Căci dinăuntru, din inima omului, ies gândurile rele, curviile*, furturile, crimele, 22 adulterele, lăcomiile, răutățile, viclenia, depravarea, ochiul rău*, blasfemia, mândria și nesăbuința. 23 Toate aceste rele ies dinăuntru și îl întinează pe om.“

Credința femeii siro-feniciene

24 Isus a plecat de acolo și S‑a dus în hotarele Tyrului și ale Sidonului. Dorind să nu știe nimeni că Se află acolo, a intrat într‑o casă, dar n‑a putut rămâne neobservat, 25 ci imediat, o femeie care auzise despre El și a cărei fetiță avea un duh necurat, a venit la El și I‑a căzut la picioare. 26 Femeia era o grecoaică, originară din Siro-Fenicia*. Ea L‑a rugat să alunge demonul din fiica ei, 27 dar Isus i‑a zis: – Lasă să se sature mai întâi copiii, căci nu este bine să iei pâinea copiilor și s‑o arunci la căței. 28 Însă ea a răspuns și i‑a zis: – Da, Doamne, dar și cățeii de sub masă mănâncă din firimiturile copiilor. 29 Atunci El i‑a zis: – Pentru răspunsul acesta, du‑te. Demonul a ieșit din fiica ta. 30 Ea a plecat acasă și a găsit copilul culcat pe pat, iar demonul ieșise.

Isus vindecă un surdo‑mut

31 Atunci Isus a ieșit iarăși din hotarele Tyrului și S‑a dus, prin Sidon, la Marea Galileei, în mijlocul hotarelor Decapolisului*. 32 Au adus la El un surd, care totodată vorbea greu, și L‑au rugat să‑Și pună mâna peste el. 33 Isus l‑a luat deoparte din mulțime, Și‑a pus degetele în urechile lui și i‑a atins limba cu scuipatul Lui. 34 Apoi a privit spre cer, a oftat și i‑a zis: „Efata!“, care înseamnă: „Deschide‑te!“ 35 Și imediat i s‑au deschis urechile, i s‑a descleștat limba* și a început să vorbească corect. 36 Isus le‑a poruncit să nu spună nimănui, dar cu cât le poruncea să nu spună, cu atât ei proclamau aceasta mai mult. 37 Ei erau uimiți peste măsură și ziceau: „El pe toate le face bine. Chiar și pe surzi îi face să audă, iar pe muți să vorbească!“

What makes people ‘unclean’?

1 The Pharisees gathered around Jesus. So did some of the teachers of the law. All of them had come from Jerusalem. 2 They saw some of his disciples eating food with ‘unclean’ hands. That means they were not washed. 3 The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands to make them ‘clean’. That’s what the elders teach. 4 When they come from the market, they do not eat unless they wash. And they follow many other teachings. For example, they wash cups, pitchers, and kettles in a special way. 5 So the Pharisees and the teachers of the law questioned Jesus. ‘Why don’t your disciples live by what the elders teach?’ they asked. ‘Why do they eat their food with “unclean” hands?’ 6 He replied, ‘Isaiah was right. He prophesied about you people who pretend to be good. He said, ‘ “These people honour me by what they say. But their hearts are far away from me. 7 Their worship doesn’t mean anything to me. They teach nothing but human rules.” 8 You have let go of God’s commands. And you are holding on to teachings that people have made up.’ 9 Jesus continued speaking, ‘You have a fine way of setting aside God’s commands! You do this so you can follow your own teachings. 10 Moses said, “Honour your father and mother.” He also said, “Anyone who asks for bad things to happen to their father or mother must be put to death.” 11 But you allow people to say that what might have been used to help their parents is Corban. Corban means A Gift Set Apart for God. 12 So you no longer let them do anything for their parents. 13 You make the word of God useless by putting your own teachings in its place. And you do many things like this.’ 14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him. He said, ‘Listen to me, everyone. Understand this. 15 Nothing outside of a person can make them “unclean” by going into them. It is what comes out of them that makes them “unclean”. ’ 17 Then he left the crowd and entered the house. His disciples asked him about this teaching. 18 ‘Don’t you understand?’ Jesus asked. ‘Don’t you see? Nothing that enters a person from the outside can make them “unclean”. 19 It doesn’t go into their heart. It goes into their stomach. Then it goes out of the body.’ In saying this, Jesus was calling all foods ‘clean’. 20 He went on to say, ‘What comes out of a person is what makes them “unclean”. 21 Evil thoughts come from the inside, from a person’s heart. So do sexual sins, stealing and murder. 22 Adultery, greed, hate and cheating come from a person’s heart too. So do desires that are not pure, and wanting what belongs to others. And so do telling lies about others and being proud and being foolish. 23 All these evil things come from inside a person and make them “unclean”. ’

Jesus honours a Greek woman’s faith

24 Jesus went from there to a place near Tyre. He entered a house. He did not want anyone to know where he was. But he could not keep it a secret. 25 Soon a woman heard about him. An evil spirit controlled her little daughter. The woman came to Jesus and fell at his feet. 26 She was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter. 27 ‘First let the children eat all they want,’ he told her. ‘It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.’ 28 ‘Lord’, she replied, ‘even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.’ 29 Then he told her, ‘That was a good reply. You may go. The demon has left your daughter.’ 30 So she went home and found her child lying on the bed. And the demon was gone.

Jesus heals a man who could not hear or speak

31 Then Jesus left the area of Tyre and went through Sidon. He went down to the Sea of Galilee and into the area known as the Ten Cities. 32 There some people brought a man to Jesus. The man was deaf and could hardly speak. They begged Jesus to place his hand on the man. 33 Jesus took the man to one side, away from the crowd. He put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spat and touched the man’s tongue. 34 Jesus looked up to heaven. With a deep sigh, he said to the man, ‘Ephphatha!’ That means ‘Be opened!’ 35 The man’s ears were opened. His tongue was freed up, and he began to speak clearly. 36 Jesus ordered the people not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were really amazed. ‘He has done everything well,’ they said. ‘He even makes deaf people able to hear. And he makes those who can’t speak able to talk.’
