1 A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes. 2 From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things, but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence. 3 Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. 4 A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. 5 The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves obnoxious and bring shame on themselves. 6 Righteousness guards the person of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner. 7 One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth. 8 A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. 9 The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out. 10 Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. 11 Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow. 12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. 13 Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it, but whoever respects a command is rewarded. 14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death. 15 Good judgment wins favour, but the way of the unfaithful leads to their destruction.* 16 All who are prudent act with* knowledge, but fools expose their folly. 17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy brings healing. 18 Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honoured. 19 A longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil. 20 Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. 21 Trouble pursues the sinner, but the righteous are rewarded with good things. 22 A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. 23 An unploughed field produces food for the poor, but injustice sweeps it away. 24 Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. 25 The righteous eat to their hearts’ content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry.

1 جوان عاقل تأديب پدر خود را میپذيرد، ولی جوانی كه همه چيز را به باد مسخره میگيرد از پذيرفتن آن سر باز میزند. 2 سخنان مرد نيک حتی برای خود او نيكوست و جانش را سير میكند، اما شخص بدانديش فقط تشنهٔ ظلم است. 3 هر كه زبان خود را نگه دارد جان خود را حفظ میكند، اما كسی كه نسنجيده سخن بگويد خود را هلاک خواهد كرد. 4 آدم تنبل آنچه را كه آرزو میكند به دست نمیآورد، اما شخص كوشا كامياب میشود. 5 شخص درستكار از دروغ گفتن نفرت دارد، اما آدم دروغگو رسوا و خوار میشود. 6 صداقت درستكاران آنها را حفظ میكند، اما شرارت بدكاران آنها را به نابودی میكشاند. 7 هستند كسانی كه وانمود میكنند ثروتمندند در حالی که چيزی ندارند، و هستند كسانی كه خود را فقير نشان میدهند اما صاحب ثروت هنگفتی میباشند. 8 ثروت شخص پولدار صرف حفاظت جان او میشود، اما جان آدم فقير را خطری تهديد نمیكند. 9 زندگی شخص نيک مانند چراغی نورانی میدرخشد، ولی زندگی گناهكاران مثل چراغی است كه در حال خاموشی است. 10 تكبر باعث نزاع میشود، ولی شخص دانا نصيحت را میپذيرد. 11 ثروتی كه از راه نادرست به دست بيايد طولی نمیكشد كه از دست میرود؛ اما دارايی كه با كار و كوشش جمع شود، به تدریج زياد میگردد. 12 آرزويی كه انجام آن به تعويق افتاده باشد دل را بيمار میكند، اما برآورده شدن مراد، شادی و حيات میبخشد. 13 هر كه دستوری را كه به او دادهاند خوار بشمارد بیسزا نخواهد ماند، اما آنكه آن را اطاعت كند پاداش خواهد يافت. 14 تعليم مرد دانا چشمهٔ حيات است و شخص را از دامهای مرگ میرهاند. 15 دانايی، احترام میآورد ولی خيانت به هلاكت منتهی میشود. 16 مرد دانا سنجيده عمل میكند، اما آدم نادان حماقت خود را بروز میدهد. 17 قاصدی كه قابل اعتماد نباشد باعث گرفتاری میشود، اما پيک امين موجب آرامش است. 18 فقر و رسوايی دامنگير كسی میشود كه تأديب را نمیپذيرد، اما شخصی كه آن را بپذيرد مورد احترام واقع خواهد شد. 19 برآورده شدن آرزوها لذتبخش است، اما افراد نادان در پی آرزوهای ناپاک خود هستند و نمیخواهند از آنها دست بردارند. 20 با اشخاص دانا معاشرت كن و دانا خواهی شد، با احمقان بنشين و زيان خواهی ديد. 21 بلا دامنگير گناهكاران میشود، اما چيزهای خوب نصيب نيكان میگردد. 22 شخص نيک حتی برای نوههايش ميراث باقی میگذارد، اما ثروتی كه گناهكاران اندوختهاند به درستكاران میرسد. 23 زمين آدم فقير ممكن است محصول فراوان بدهد، ولی ظالمان آن را از چنگ او در میآورند. 24 كسی كه فرزند خود را تنبيه نمیكند او را دوست ندارد، اما كسی كه فرزندش را دوست دارد از تأديب او كوتاهی نمیكند. 25 شخص درستكار از خوراكی كه دارد میخورد و سير میشود، ولی آدم بدكار گرسنگی میكشد.
