1Then the word of the Lord came to me:2‘You must not marry and have sons or daughters in this place.’3For this is what the Lord says about the sons and daughters born in this land and about the women who are their mothers and the men who are their fathers:4‘They will die of deadly diseases. They will not be mourned or buried but will be like dung lying on the ground. They will perish by sword and famine, and their dead bodies will become food for the birds and the wild animals.’5For this is what the Lord says: ‘Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal; do not go to mourn or show sympathy, because I have withdrawn my blessing, my love and my pity from this people,’ declares the Lord.6‘Both high and low will die in this land. They will not be buried or mourned, and no-one will cut themselves or shave their head for the dead.7No-one will offer food to comfort those who mourn for the dead – not even for a father or a mother – nor will anyone give them a drink to console them.8‘And do not enter a house where there is feasting and sit down to eat and drink.9For this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Before your eyes and in your days I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and bridegroom in this place.10‘When you tell these people all this and they ask you, “Why has the Lord decreed such a great disaster against us? What wrong have we done? What sin have we committed against the Lord our God?”11then say to them, “It is because your ancestors forsook me,” declares the Lord, “and followed other gods and served and worshipped them. They forsook me and did not keep my law.12But you have behaved more wickedly than your ancestors. See how all of you are following the stubbornness of your evil hearts instead of obeying me.13So I will throw you out of this land into a land neither you nor your ancestors have known, and there you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favour.”14‘However, the days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when it will no longer be said, “As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,”15but it will be said, “As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.” For I will restore them to the land I gave to their ancestors.16‘But now I will send for many fishermen,’ declares the Lord, ‘and they will catch them. After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them down on every mountain and hill and from the crevices of the rocks.17My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from me, nor is their sin concealed from my eyes.18I will repay them double for their wickedness and their sin, because they have defiled my land with the lifeless forms of their vile images and have filled my inheritance with their detestable idols.’19Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, ‘Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good.20Do people make their own gods? Yes, but they are not gods!’21‘Therefore I will teach them – this time I will teach them my power and might. Then they will know that my name is the Lord.

1بار ديگر خداوند با من سخن گفت و فرمود:2«تو نبايد در چنين مكانی ازدواج كنی و صاحب فرزند شوی،3چون كودكانی كه در اينجا به دنیا بيايند همراه پدران و مادرانشان4در اثر بيماريهای كشنده خواهند مرد؛ كسی برای آنها ماتم نخواهد گرفت؛ جنازههايشان دفن نخواهد شد بلكه همچون فضله بر روی زمين باقی خواهد ماند. آنها در اثر جنگ و قحطی كشته خواهند شد و لاشههايشان را لاشخورها و جانوران خواهند خورد.5من بركت خود را از ايشان گرفتهام و از احسان و رحمت خود محرومشان كردهام؛ پس تو برای آنها نه ماتم بگير و نه گريه كن!6در اين سرزمين چه ثروتمند و چه فقير، همه خواهند مرد، ولی جنازههايشان دفن نخواهد شد؛ نه كسی برای آنها ماتم خواهد گرفت، نه خود را برای ايشان مجروح خواهد كرد و نه موهای سرش را خواهد تراشيد،*7و نه كسی برای تسلیشان با آنها بر سر سفره خواهد نشست؛ حتی در مرگ والدينشان نيز هيچكس با ايشان همدردی نخواهد كرد!8«پس تو از هم اكنون ديگر در مهمانيها و جشنهای آنها شركت نكن، و حتی با ايشان غذا هم نخور!9چون من، خداوند قادر متعال، خدای بنیاسرائيل در طول زندگیتان و در برابر چشمانتان، به تمام خندهها و خوشیها، به همه نغمههای شاد، و همهٔ جشنهای عروسی پايان خواهم داد.10«وقتی تمام اين چيزها را به مردم بازگو كنی، خواهند پرسيد: ”چرا خداوند چنين مجازات سختی برای ما در نظر گرفته است؟ مگر تقصيرمان چيست؟ به خداوند، خدایمان چه گناهی كردهايم؟“11آنگاه به ايشان بگو كه خداوند چنين پاسخ میدهد: ”علت اينست كه پدران شما مرا ترک كرده، از بتها پيروی نمودند و قوانين مرا اطاعت نكردند.12ولی شما از پدرانتان هم بدكارتر هستيد. شما در پی هوسهای گناهآلود خود میرويد و نمیخواهيد مرا پيروی كنيد؛13از اين رو شما را از اين سرزمين بيرون انداخته، به سرزمينی خواهم راند كه هرگز نه خود شما آنجا بودهايد و نه اجدادتان؛ در آنجا میتوانيد شبانه روز به بتپرستی بپردازيد و من هم ديگر بر شما رحم نخواهم نمود.“»14با اين حال خداوند میفرمايد: «زمانی میآيد كه مردم هرگاه بخواهند در مورد كارهای شگفتانگيز من گفتگو كنند، ديگر اعمال عجيب مرا به هنگام بيرون آوردن بنیاسرائيل از مصر، ذكر نخواهند نمود، بلكه در اين باره سخن خواهند گفت كه من چگونه بنیاسرائيل را از سرزمين شمال و همه سرزمينهايی كه ايشان را به آنها رانده بودم، باز آوردهام. بلی، من ايشان را به سرزمينی كه به پدرانشان دادهام باز خواهم گرداند!»

16خداوند میفرمايد: «اكنون به دنبال ماهيگيران بسيار میفرستم تا بيايند و شما را از اعماق دريا كه در آنجا از ترس خشم من خود را پنهان كردهايد، صيد كنند! همچنين به دنبال شكارچيان بسيار خواهم فرستاد تا شما را شكار كنند، همانگونه كه گوزن را در کوهها و تپهها، و بز كوهی را در ميان صخرهها شكار میكنند.17من با دقت مراقب رفتار شما هستم و هيچ عمل شما از نظر من مخفی نيست؛ هرگز نمیتوانيد گناهانتان را از من پنهان كنيد؛18من به سبب همهٔ آنها شما را دو برابر مجازات میكنم، چون با بتهای نفرتانگيز خود، زمين مرا آلوده كردهايد و آن را با اعمال بدتان پر ساختهايد.»

19ای خداوند، ای قوت من، ای پشتيبان من، كه به هنگام سختی پناهگاهم هستی، قومها از سراسر جهان نزد تو آمده، خواهند گفت: «پدران ما چقدر نادان بودند كه خدايان پوچ و دروغين را پيروی میكردند!20آيا انسان میتواند برای خود خدا بسازد؟ بتی كه به دست انسان ساخته شود خدا نيست!»21خداوند میگويد: «قدرت و توانايی خود را به آنها نشان خواهم داد و سرانجام به ايشان خواهم فهماند كه تنها من خداوند هستم.»
