1Bel bows down, Nebo stoops low; their idols are borne by beasts of burden.* The images that are carried about are burdensome, a burden for the weary.2They stoop and bow down together; unable to rescue the burden, they themselves go off into captivity.3‘Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob, all the remnant of the people of Israel, you whom I have upheld since your birth, and have carried since you were born.4Even to your old age and grey hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.5‘With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?6Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god, and they bow down and worship it.7They lift it to their shoulders and carry it; they set it up in its place, and there it stands. From that spot it cannot move. Even though someone cries out to it, it cannot answer; it cannot save them from their troubles.8‘Remember this, keep it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels.9Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.10I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, “My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.”11From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfil my purpose. What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that I will do.12Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are now far from my righteousness.13I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. 1«زمانی مردم بابل بتهای خود، ”بل“ و ”نبو“ را میپرستيدند، اما اينک اين دو بت روی گاری گذاشته شده و چارپايانِ خسته آنها را میكشند.2خدايان بابل اسير شدهاند و به جای ديگری برده میشوند؛ آنها قادر نيستند خود را نجات دهند.3«ای بازماندگان بنیاسرائيل، به من گوش دهيد. من شما را آفريدهام و از بدو تولد تاكنون از شما نگه داری كردهام.4من خدای شما هستم و تا وقتی پير شويد و موهايتان سفيد شود از شما مراقبت خواهم كرد. من شما را آفريدهام و از شما نگه داری خواهم نمود. شما را با خود خواهم برد و نجات دهندهٔ شما خواهم بود.»5خداوند میگويد: «مرا با چه كسی مقايسه میكنيد؟ آيا كسی را میتوانيد پيدا كنيد كه با من برابری كند؟6آيا مرا به بتها تشبيه میكنيد كه مردم با طلا و نقرهٔ خود آن را میسازند؟ آنها زرگر را اجير میكنند تا ثروتشان را بگيرد و از آن خدايی بسازد؛ سپس زانو میزنند و آن را سجده میكنند!7بت را بر دوش میگيرند و به اين طرف و آن طرف میبرند. هنگامی كه آن را بر زمين میگذارند همانجا میماند، چون نمیتواند حركت كند! وقتی كسی نزدش دعا میكند، جوابی نمیدهد، چون بت نمیتواند ناراحتی او را برطرف سازد.8«ای گناهكاران اين را فراموش نكنيد،9و به ياد داشته باشيد كه من بارها شما را از رويدادهای آينده آگاه ساختهام. زيرا تنها من خدا هستم و كسی ديگر مانند من نيست كه10بتواند به شما بگويد در آينده چه رخ خواهد داد. آنچه بگويم واقع خواهد شد و هر چه اراده كنم به انجام خواهد رسيد.11مردی* را از مشرق، از آن سرزمين دور دست فرا میخوانم. او مانند يک پرندهٔ شكاری فرود خواهد آمد و آنچه را اراده نمودهام انجام خواهد داد. آنچه گفتهام واقع خواهد شد.12ای مردم دير باور كه فكر میكنيد آزادی شما دور است. به من گوش دهيد.13من روز آزاديتان را نزديک آوردهام. من تأخير نخواهم كرد و اورشليم را نجات خواهم داد و اسرائيل را سرافراز خواهم ساخت.»
