Jesaja 59 | King James Version

1 Behold, the LORD' hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

3 For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.

4 None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.

5 They hatch cockatrice'eggs, and weave the spider' web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper.

6 Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.

7 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.

8 The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.

9 Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.

10 We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men .

11 We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.

12 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them;

13 In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.

14 And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.

15 Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it , and it displeased him that there was no judgment.

16 And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.

17 For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke.

18 According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence.

19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

20 And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.

21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed' seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

Le colpe di Giuda

1 Ecco, la mano del Signore non è troppo corta per salvare, né il suo orecchio troppo duro per udire;

2 ma le vostre iniquità vi hanno separato dal vostro Dio; i vostri peccati gli hanno fatto nascondere la faccia da voi, per non darvi più ascolto.

3 Le vostre mani infatti sono contaminate dal sangue, le vostre dita dall’iniquità; le vostre labbra proferiscono menzogna, la vostra lingua sussurra perversità.

4 Nessuno muove causa con giustizia, nessuno la discute con verità; si appoggiano su ciò che non è, dicono menzogne, concepiscono il male, partoriscono l’iniquità.

5 Covano uova di serpente, tessono tele di ragno; chi mangia le loro uova muore, e dall’uovo che uno schiaccia esce fuori una vipera.

6 Le loro tele non diventeranno vestiti, né costoro si copriranno delle loro opere; le loro opere sono opere d’iniquità, nelle loro mani vi sono atti di violenza.

7 I loro piedi corrono al male, essi si affrettano a spargere sangue innocente; i loro pensieri sono pensieri iniqui, la desolazione e la rovina sono sulla loro strada.

8 La via della pace non la conoscono, non c’è equità nel loro procedere; si fanno dei sentieri tortuosi, chiunque vi cammina non conosce la pace.

9 Perciò la rettitudine è lontana da noi e non arriva fino a noi la giustizia; noi aspettiamo la luce, ma ecco le tenebre; aspettiamo il chiarore del giorno, ma camminiamo nel buio.

10 Andiamo tastando la parete come i ciechi, andiamo a tastoni come chi non ha occhi; inciampiamo in pieno mezzogiorno come nel crepuscolo, in mezzo all’abbondanza sembriamo dei morti.

11 Tutti quanti grugniamo come orsi, andiamo gemendo come colombe; aspettiamo la rettitudine, ma essa non viene; la salvezza, ma essa si allontana da noi.

12 Poiché le nostre trasgressioni si sono moltiplicate davanti a te e i nostri peccati testimoniano contro di noi; sì, i nostri peccati ci stanno davanti e le nostre iniquità le conosciamo.

13 Siamo stati ribelli al Signore e lo abbiamo rinnegato, ci siamo rifiutati di seguire il nostro Dio, abbiamo parlato di oppressione e di rivolta, abbiamo concepito e meditato in cuore parole di menzogna.

14 La rettitudine si è ritirata e la giustizia si è tenuta lontana; la verità, infatti, soccombe sulla piazza pubblica e il diritto non riesce ad avvicinarvisi.

15 La verità è scomparsa, e chi si allontana dal male si espone a essere spogliato. Il Signore ha visto, e gli è dispiaciuto che non vi sia più rettitudine;

Giudizio contro Giuda; promessa di un redentore

16 ha visto che non c’era più un uomo e si è stupito che nessuno intervenisse. Allora il suo braccio gli è venuto in aiuto, la sua giustizia lo ha sorretto;

17 egli si è rivestito di giustizia come di una corazza, si è messo in capo l’elmo della salvezza, ha indossato gli abiti della vendetta, si è avvolto di gelosia come in un mantello.

18 Egli renderà a ciascuno secondo le sue opere; il furore ai suoi avversari, il contraccambio ai suoi nemici; alle isole darà la loro retribuzione.

19 Così si temerà il nome del Signore dall’occidente e la sua gloria dall’oriente; quando l’avversario verrà come una fiumana, lo Spirito del Signore lo metterà in fuga.

20 «Un salvatore verrà per Sion e per quelli di Giacobbe che si convertiranno dalla loro rivolta», dice il Signore.

21 «Quanto a me», dice il Signore, «questo è il patto che io stabilirò con loro: il mio Spirito che riposa su di te e le mie parole che ho messe nella tua bocca non si allontaneranno mai dalla tua bocca, né dalla bocca della tua discendenza, né dalla bocca della discendenza della tua discendenza», dice il Signore, «da ora e per sempre».
