Die Herrlichkeit des Schöpfers-die Würde des Menschen

1 Für den Chormeister. Nach dem Kelterlied. Ein Psalm Davids.

2 HERR, unser Herr, / wie gewaltig ist dein Name auf der ganzen Erde, der du deine Hoheit gebreitet hast über den Himmel.*

3 Aus dem Mund der Kinder und Säuglinge hast du ein Bollwerk errichtet / wegen deiner Gegner, um zum Einhalten zu bringen Feind und Rächer.*

4 Seh ich deine Himmel, die Werke deiner Finger, Mond und Sterne, die du befestigt:

5 Was ist der Mensch, dass du seiner gedenkst, des Menschen Kind, dass du dich seiner annimmst?

6 Du hast ihn nur wenig geringer gemacht als Gott, du hast ihn gekrönt mit Pracht und Herrlichkeit.*

7 Du hast ihn als Herrscher eingesetzt über die Werke deiner Hände, alles hast du gelegt unter seine Füße:

8 Schafe und Rinder, sie alle und auch die wilden Tiere,

9 die Vögel des Himmels und die Fische im Meer, was auf den Pfaden der Meere dahinzieht.

10 HERR, unser Herr, wie gewaltig ist dein Name auf der ganzen Erde!

1 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.*

2 Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?*

5 You have made them* a little lower than the angels* and crowned them* with glory and honour.

6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their* feet:

7 all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild,

8 the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
