Die Söhne Israels hoben ihren Vater Jakob, ihre Kinder und ihre Frauen auf die Wagen, die der Pharao geschickt hatte, um ihn zu holen.6Sie nahmen ihr Vieh und ihre Habe, die sie im Land Kanaan erworben hatten, und gelangten nach Ägypten, Jakob und mit ihm alle seine Nachkommen.7Seine Söhne und Enkel, seine Töchter und Enkelinnen, alle seine Nachkommen brachte er mit nach Ägypten.8Das sind die Namen der Söhne Israels, die nach Ägypten kamen, Jakob und seine Söhne: der Erstgeborene Jakobs, Ruben;9die Söhne Rubens: Henoch, Pallu, Hezron und Karmi;10die Söhne Simeons: Jemuël, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar und Schaul, der Sohn der Kanaaniterin;11die Söhne Levis: Gerschon, Kehat und Merari;12die Söhne Judas: Er, Onan, Schela, Perez und Serach; Er und Onan waren aber in Kanaan gestorben; die Söhne des Perez waren Hezron und Hamul;13die Söhne Issachars: Tola, Puwa, Job und Schimron;14die Söhne Sebulons: Sered, Elon und Jachleel.15Das waren die Söhne Leas, die sie Jakob in Paddan-Aram geboren hatte, dazu seine Tochter Dina, an Söhnen und Töchtern insgesamt dreiunddreißig Personen.16Die Söhne Gads: Zifjon, Haggi, Schuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arod und Areli;17die Söhne Aschers: Jimna, Jischwa, Jischwi und Beria, dazu ihre Schwester Serach; die Söhne Berias: Heber und Malkiël.18Das waren die Söhne Silpas, die Laban seiner Tochter Lea mitgegeben hatte; sie alle hatte sie Jakob geboren, sechzehn Personen.19Die Söhne Rahels, der Frau Jakobs: Josef und Benjamin.20Josef hatte in Ägypten Kinder erhalten, die ihm Asenat, die Tochter Potiferas, des Priesters von On, geboren hatte: Manasse und Efraim.21Die Söhne Benjamins: Bela, Becher, Aschbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosch, Muppim, Huppim und Ard.22Das waren die Söhne Rahels, die Jakob geboren worden waren, insgesamt vierzehn Personen.23Die Söhne Dans: Huschim.*24Die Söhne Naftalis: Jachzeel, Guni, Jezer und Schillem.25Das waren die Söhne Bilhas, die Laban seiner Tochter Rahel mitgegeben hatte. Sie alle hatte Bilha Jakob geboren, insgesamt sieben Personen.26Die Gesamtzahl der Personen, die mit Jakob nach Ägypten gekommen und aus seiner Lende hervorgegangen waren, betrug ohne die Frauen der Söhne Jakobs insgesamt sechsundsechzig Personen.27Dazu kommen die Söhne Josefs, die ihm in Ägypten geboren worden waren, zwei Personen. Insgesamt waren vom Haus Jakob siebzig Personen nach Ägypten gekommen.28Jakob schickte Juda voraus zu Josef, damit er ihm den Weg nach Goschen weise. So kamen sie ins Land Goschen.29Josef ließ seinen Wagen anspannen und zog seinem Vater Israel nach Goschen entgegen. Als er ihn sah, fiel er ihm um den Hals und weinte lange.30Israel sagte zu Josef: Jetzt will ich gern sterben, nachdem ich dein Angesicht wieder gesehen habe. Du bist ja noch am Leben.31Josef sagte dann zu seinen Brüdern und zum ganzen Haus seines Vaters: Ich will hinaufgehen, den Pharao benachrichtigen und ihm sagen: Meine Brüder und alle vom Haus meines Vaters, die im Land Kanaan waren, sind zu mir gekommen.32Die Männer sind Schafhirten, ja, Viehzüchter sind sie. Ihre Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder und alles, was ihnen gehört, haben sie mitgebracht.33Wenn euch der Pharao rufen lässt und fragt, was eure Arbeit ist,34dann sagt: Deine Knechte sind von Jugend an bis jetzt Viehzüchter gewesen, wir waren es und unsere Väter waren es auch schon. Dann werdet ihr euch in Goschen niederlassen dürfen; denn den Ägyptern sind alle Schafhirten ein Gräuel.

Jacob goes to Egypt
1So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.2And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, ‘Jacob! Jacob!’ ‘Here I am,’ he replied.3‘I am God, the God of your father,’ he said. ‘Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.4I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.’5Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel’s sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him.6So Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt, taking with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan.7Jacob brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters – all his offspring.8These are the names of the sons of Israel (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob.9The sons of Reuben: Hanok, Pallu, Hezron and Karmi.10The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.11The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.12The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez and Zerah (but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan). When they arrived in the region of Goshen,29Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father* and wept for a long time.30Israel said to Joseph, ‘Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive.’31Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, ‘I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, “My brothers and my father’s household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me.32The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.”33When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, “What is your occupation?”34you should answer, “Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.” Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.’
