Die Nachkommen Esaus

1 Das ist die Geschlechterfolge Esaus, das heißt Edoms:

2 Esau nahm sich seine Frauen aus den Töchtern Kanaans: Ada, die Tochter des Hetiters Elon, Oholibama, die Tochter der Ana, einer Tochter des Hiwiters Zibon,

3 und Basemat, die Tochter Ismaels, eine Schwester Nebajots.

4 Ada gebar dem Esau Elifas, Basemat gebar Reguël

5 und Oholibama gebar Jëusch, Jalam und Korach. Das waren die Söhne Esaus, die ihm in Kanaan geboren wurden.

6 Esau nahm seine Frauen, Söhne und Töchter, alle Personen seines Hauses und seinen Besitz, all sein Vieh und seine ganze Habe, die er in Kanaan erworben hatte, und zog in ein anderes Land, fort von seinem Bruder Jakob.

7 Ihre Habe war nämlich zu groß, als dass sie zusammen hätten wohnen können. Das Land, in dem sie sich aufhielten, konnte sie wegen ihres Viehbestandes nicht ernähren.

8 So ließ sich Esau im Bergland Seïr nieder. Esau ist Edom.

9 Das ist die Geschlechterfolge Esaus, des Vaters von Edom im Bergland Seïr.

10 Die Namen der Söhne Esaus sind: Elifas, der Sohn der Ada, der Frau Esaus, und Reguël, der Sohn Basemats, der Frau Esaus.

11 Die Söhne des Elifas waren: Teman, Omar, Zefo, Gatam und Kenas.

12 Timna war die Nebenfrau des Elifas, des Sohnes Esaus. Sie gebar dem Elifas Amalek. Das waren die Söhne Adas, der Frau Esaus.

13 Die Söhne Reguëls sind: Nahat, Serach, Schamma und Misa. Das waren die Söhne Basemats, der Frau Esaus.

14 Dies waren die Söhne der Oholibama, der Frau Esaus und Tochter Anas, einer Tochter Zibons. Sie gebar dem Esau: Jëusch, Jalam und Korach.

15 Das sind die Stammesführer der Söhne Esaus: die Söhne des Elifas, des Erstgeborenen Esaus: Stammesführer Teman, Stammesführer Omar, Stammesführer Zefo, Stammesführer Kenas,

16 Stammesführer Korach, Stammesführer Gatam, Stammesführer Amalek. Das waren die Stammesführer des Elifas in Edom, lauter Söhne der Ada.

17 Das sind die Söhne Reguëls, des Sohnes Esaus: Stammesführer Nahat, Stammesführer Serach, Stammesführer Schamma, Stammesführer Misa. Das waren die Stammesführer Reguëls in Edom; sie waren die Söhne Basemats, der Frau Esaus.

18 Das sind die Söhne Oholibamas, der Frau Esaus: Stammesführer Jëusch, Stammesführer Jalam, Stammesführer Korach. Das waren die Stammesführer, die von Oholibama, der Frau Esaus und Tochter Anas, abstammten.

19 Das waren also die Söhne Esaus und deren Stammesführer. Das ist Edom.

20 Das sind die Söhne des Horiters Seïr, die Einwohner des Landes: Lotan, Schobal, Zibon, Ana,

21 Dischon, Ezer und Dischan. Das waren die Stammesführer der Horiter, der Söhne Seïrs, in Edom.

22 Die Söhne Lotans waren: Hori und Hemam. Die Schwester Lotans ist Timna.

23 Das sind die Söhne Schobals: Alwan, Manahat, Ebal, Schefi und Onam.

24 Die Söhne Zibons sind: Aja und Ana. Das ist jener Ana, der das Wasser in der Wüste fand, als er die Esel seines Vaters Zibon weidete.

25 Die Kinder Anas sind: Dischon und Oholibama, die Tochter Anas.

26 Die Söhne Dischons sind: Hemdan, Eschban, Jitran und Keran.

27 Die Söhne Ezers sind: Bilhan, Saawan und Akan.

28 Die Söhne Dischans sind: Uz und Aran.

29 Das sind die Stammesführer der Horiter: Stammesführer Lotan, Stammesführer Schobal, Stammesführer Zibon, Stammesführer Ana,

30 Stammesführer Dischon, Stammesführer Ezer, Stammesführer Dischan. Das waren die Stammesführer der Horiter nach ihren Abteilungen in Seïr.

31 Das waren die Könige, die in Edom regierten, bevor bei den Israeliten ein König regierte:

32 In Edom regierte Bela, der Sohn Beors; seine Stadt hieß Dinhaba.

33 Als Bela starb, wurde König an seiner Stelle Jobab, der Sohn Serachs aus Bozra.

34 Als Jobab starb, wurde König an seiner Stelle Huscham aus dem Land der Temaniter.

35 Als Huscham starb, wurde König an seiner Stelle Hadad, der Sohn Bedads, der Midian im Grünland von Moab schlug; seine Stadt hieß Awit.

36 Als Hadad starb, wurde König an seiner Stelle Samla aus Masreka.

37 Als Samla starb, wurde König an seiner Stelle Schaul aus Rehobot am Fluss.

38 Als Schaul starb, wurde König an seiner Stelle Baal-Hanan, der Sohn Achbors.

39 Als Baal-Hanan, der Sohn Achbors, starb, wurde König an seiner Stelle Hadar; seine Stadt hieß Pagu. Seine Frau hieß Mehetabel; sie war die Tochter Matreds und Enkelin Me-Sahabs.

40 Das sind die Namen der Stammesführer Esaus nach ihren Sippen und Orten und mit ihren Namen: Stammesführer Timna, Stammesführer Alwa, Stammesführer Jetet,

41 Stammesführer Oholibama, Stammesführer Ela, Stammesführer Pinon,

42 Stammesführer Kenas, Stammesführer Teman, Stammesführer Mibzar,

43 Stammesführer Magdiël, Stammesführer Iram. Das waren die Stammesführer Edoms nach ihren Wohnsitzen im Land ihres Eigentums. Das war Esau, der Vater Edoms.

Esau’s descendants

1 This is the account of the family line of Esau (that is, Edom).

2 Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite –

3 also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.

4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel,

5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan.

6 Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob.

7 Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock.

8 So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir.

9 This is the account of the family line of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir.

10 These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath.

11 The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz.

12 Esau’s son Eliphaz also had a concubine named Timna, who bore him Amalek. These were grandsons of Esau’s wife Adah.

13 The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.

14 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, whom she bore to Esau: Jeush, Jalam and Korah.

15 These were the chiefs among Esau’s descendants: The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau: Chiefs Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,

16 Korah,* Gatam and Amalek. These were the chiefs descended from Eliphaz in Edom; they were grandsons of Adah.

17 The sons of Esau’s son Reuel: Chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were the chiefs descended from Reuel in Edom; they were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.

18 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah: Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the chiefs descended from Esau’s wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah.

19 These were the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these were their chiefs.

20 These were the sons of Seir the Horite, who were living in the region: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

21 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite chiefs.

22 The sons of Lotan: Hori and Homam.* Timna was Lotan’s sister.

23 The sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam.

24 The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. (This is the Anah who discovered the hot springs* in the desert while he was grazing the donkeys of his father Zibeon.)

25 The children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah.

26 The sons of Dishon*: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran.

27 The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan.

28 The sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.

29 These were the Horite chiefs: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

30 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These were the Horite chiefs, according to their divisions, in the land of Seir.

The rulers of Edom

31 These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned:

32 Bela son of Beor became king of Edom. His city was named Dinhabah.

33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king.

34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king.

35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith.

36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.

37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded him as king.

38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king.

39 When Baal-Hanan son of Akbor died, Hadad* succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab.

40 These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,

42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,

43 Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied. This is the family line of Esau, the father of the Edomites.
