du hast sie vernichtet, / aber sie haben sich geweigert, Züchtigung anzunehmen.
Sie haben ihre Stirn härter gemacht als Stein, / sie haben sich geweigert umzukehren.4Ich aber dachte: Nur die geringen Leute, / nur sie handeln töricht,
weil sie den Weg des HERRN nicht kennen, / das Recht ihres Gottes.5Ich will doch lieber zu den Großen gehen / und zu ihnen reden;
denn sie kennen den Weg des HERRN, / das Recht ihres Gottes.
Doch sie haben gemeinsam das Joch zerbrochen, / die Stricke zerrissen.6Darum schlägt sie der Löwe des Waldes, / der Steppenwolf überwältigt sie.
Vor ihren Städten lauert der Panther, / alle, die herauskommen, werden zerfleischt.
Denn zahlreich sind ihre Verbrechen, / schwer wiegt ihre Abtrünnigkeit.7Weshalb sollte ich dir vergeben? / Deine Söhne haben mich verlassen / und bei Nichtgöttern geschworen.
Ich machte sie satt, doch sie trieben Ehebruch / und waren zu Gast im Dirnenhaus.8Hengste sind sie geworden, feist und geil, / jeder wiehert nach der Frau seines Nächsten.9Sollte ich diese nicht heimsuchen - Spruch des HERRN - / und an einem solchen Volk keine Vergeltung üben?10Steigt auf ihre Rebenhänge und verwüstet sie! / Doch völlig vernichten sollt ihr sie nicht.
Reißt ihre Reben weg; / denn sie gehören nicht dem HERRN.11Sie sind mir ja gänzlich untreu geworden, / das Haus Israel und das Haus Juda - Spruch des HERRN.12Sie haben den HERRN verleugnet und gesagt: / Es ist nicht so!
Kein Unheil kommt über uns, / weder Schwert noch Hunger werden wir sehen.13Doch die Propheten werden zu Wind / und das Wort ist nicht mehr bei ihnen. / So wird es ihnen ergehen.14Darum - so spricht der HERR, / der Gott der Heerscharen:
Weil ihr dieses Wort sagt: / Siehe, darum mache ich meine Worte / in deinem Mund zu Feuersglut
und dieses Volk da zum Brennholz, / das von ihr verzehrt wird.15Siehe, ich bringe über euch ein Volk aus der Ferne, / Haus Israel - Spruch des HERRN.
Ein unüberwindliches Volk ist es, / ein uraltes Volk,
ein Volk, dessen Sprache du nicht kennst / und dessen Rede du nicht verstehst.16Sein Köcher ist wie ein offenes Grab, / sie alle sind Helden.17Es frisst deine Ernte und dein Brot, / es frisst deine Söhne und Töchter,
es frisst deine Schafe und Rinder, / es frisst deinen Weinstock und Feigenbaum,
es zerschlägt mit dem Schwert / deine befestigten Städte, auf die du vertraust.18Doch auch in jenen Tagen - Spruch des HERRN - will ich euch nicht völlig vernichten.19Wenn man dann fragt: Weshalb hat der HERR, unser Gott, uns das alles angetan?, so sag zu ihnen: Wie ihr mich verlassen und fremden Göttern in eurem Land gedient habt, so müsst ihr Fremden dienen in einem Land, das euch nicht gehört.20Verkündet dies im Haus Jakob / und lasst es hören in Juda:21Hört doch dies, du törichtes Volk ohne Verstand: / Augen haben sie und sehen nicht; / Ohren haben sie und hören nicht!22Fürchtet ihr mich denn nicht - Spruch des HERRN -, / zittert ihr nicht vor meinem Angesicht?
Der ich doch dem Meer die Düne als Grenze gesetzt habe, / ein ewiges Gesetz, das es nicht übertreten kann.
Mögen seine Wellen toben, sie richten nichts aus; / mögen seine Wogen tosen, / sie können es nicht übertreten.23Dieses Volk aber hat ein störrisches, trotziges Herz. / Sie wichen vom Weg ab und gingen davon.24Sie sagten nicht in ihrem Herzen: / Lasst uns den HERRN fürchten, unseren Gott,
der Regen spendet, Frühregen / und Spätregen zur rechten Zeit, / der uns die feste Ordnung der Erntewochen bewahrt.25Eure Frevel haben diese Ordnung gestört, / eure Sünden haben das Gute von euch ferngehalten.26Ja, Frevler gibt es in meinem Volk; / sie lauern, gebückt wie Vogelsteller,
Fallen stellen sie auf, / Menschen wollen sie fangen.27Wie ein Korb mit Vögeln gefüllt ist, / so sind ihre Häuser voll Betrug;
dadurch sind sie mächtig und reich geworden, /28fett, feist.
Auch sündigen sie durch ruchloses Tun. / Das Recht pflegen sie nicht,
dem Recht der Waisen verhalfen sie nicht zum Erfolg / und die Sache der Armen entscheiden sie nicht.29Sollte ich sie nicht heimsuchen - Spruch des HERRN - / und an einem solchen Volk keine Vergeltung üben?30Wüstes, Grässliches geschieht im Land: /31Die Propheten weissagen Lüge
und die Priester richten ihre Lehre nach ihnen aus; / mein Volk aber liebt es so.
Doch was werdet ihr tun, / wenn es damit zu Ende geht?

Jerusalem Refused to Repent
1Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look and take note! Search her squares to see if you can find a man, one who does justice and seeks truth, that I may pardon her.2Though they say, “As the Lord lives,” yet they swear falsely.3O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You have struck them down, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to repent.4Then I said, “These are only the poor; they have no sense; for they do not know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God.5I will go to the great and will speak to them, for they know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God.” But they all alike had broken the yoke; they had burst the bonds.6Therefore a lion from the forest shall strike them down; a wolf from the desert shall devastate them. A leopard is watching their cities; everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many, their apostasies are great.7“How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me and have sworn by those who are no gods. When I fed them to the full, they committed adultery and trooped to the houses of whores.8They were well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for his neighbor’s wife.9Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord; and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?10“Go up through her vine rows and destroy, but make not a full end; strip away her branches, for they are not the Lord’s.11For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly treacherous to me, declares the Lord.12They have spoken falsely of the Lord and have said, ‘He will do nothing; no disaster will come upon us, nor shall we see sword or famine.13The prophets will become wind; the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them!’”
The Lord Proclaims Judgment
14Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts: “Because you have spoken this word, behold, I am making my words in your mouth a fire, and this people wood, and the fire shall consume them.15Behold, I am bringing against you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, declares the Lord. It is an enduring nation; it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you understand what they say.16Their quiver is like an open tomb; they are all mighty warriors.17They shall eat up your harvest and your food; they shall eat up your sons and your daughters; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; your fortified cities in which you trust they shall beat down with the sword.”18“But even in those days, declares the Lord, I will not make a full end of you.19And when your people say, ‘Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ you shall say to them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, so you shall serve foreigners in a land that is not yours.’”20Declare this in the house of Jacob; proclaim it in Judah:21“Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes, but see not, who have ears, but hear not.22Do you not fear me? declares the Lord. Do you not tremble before me? I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it.23But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; they have turned aside and gone away.24They do not say in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives the rain in its season, the autumn rain and the spring rain, and keeps for us the weeks appointed for the harvest.’25Your iniquities have turned these away, and your sins have kept good from you.26For wicked men are found among my people; they lurk like fowlers lying in wait.* They set a trap; they catch men.27Like a cage full of birds, their houses are full of deceit; therefore they have become great and rich;28they have grown fat and sleek. They know no bounds in deeds of evil; they judge not with justice the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy.29Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord, and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?”30An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land:31the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes?
