1A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me;2many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” *3But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.4I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill.5I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.6I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.7Arise, O Lord! Save me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked.8Salvation belongs to the Lord; your blessing be on your people!
New International Version
A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.
1Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!2Many are saying of me, ‘God will not deliver him.’*3But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.4I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.5I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.6I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.7Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.8From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.
