How Majestic Is Your Name

1 To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith.* A Psalm of David. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings* and crowned him with glory and honor.

6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet,

7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,

8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

9 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Was ist der Mensch, dass du an ihn denkst?

1 Für den Dirigenten*. Auf beschwingte Weise zu begleiten.* Ein Psalm Davids.

2 HERR, unser Herrscher*, wie berühmt ist dein Name in aller Welt! Ja, auch am Himmel zeigst du deine Größe und Herrlichkeit.

3 Schon Säuglingen und kleinen Kindern hast du dein Lob in den Mund gelegt, damit sie deine Macht bezeugen.* Das hast du so bestimmt, um deine Gegner zu beschämen, um jeden Feind und Rachsüchtigen zum Schweigen zu bringen.

4 Wenn ich den Himmel sehe, das Werk deiner Hände, den Mond und die Sterne, die du erschaffen und an ihren Ort gesetzt hast, dann staune ich:

5 Was ist der Mensch, dass du an ihn denkst? Wer ist er schon, dass du dich um ihn kümmerst!*

6 Du hast ihn nur wenig geringer gemacht als Gott*, mit Ehre und Würde hast du ihn gekrönt.

7 Du hast ihn zum Herrn eingesetzt über deine Geschöpfe, die aus deinen Händen hervorgingen; alles hast du ihm zu Füßen gelegt.

8 Du hast ihm Schafe und Rinder unterstellt und dazu alle frei lebenden Tiere in Feld und Flur,

9 die Vögel, die am Himmel fliegen, ebenso wie die Fische im Meer und alles, was die Meere durchzieht.

10 HERR, unser Herrscher, wie berühmt ist dein Name in aller Welt!
