1Digo verdad en el Mesías, no miento, y mi conciencia me da testimonio en el Espíritu Santo:2Que tengo gran tristeza y constante dolor en mi corazón,3porque desearía yo mismo ser anatema del Mesías por mis hermanos, los que son mis parientes según la carne;4quienes son israelitas, de los cuales son la adopción y la gloria, los pactos y la promulgación de la ley, las ordenanzas y las promesas;5de quienes son los patriarcas, y de los cuales, según la carne, vino el Mesías, el cual es Dios sobre todas las cosas, bendito por los siglos. La fidelidad de Dios
6No que la Palabra de Dios haya fallado, porque no todos los descendientes de Israel, son Israel;7ni porque son descendencia de Abraham, son todos hijos; sino: En Isaac te será llamada descendencia.8Es decir, no son los hijos de la carne los que son hijos de Dios, sino que los hijos de la promesa son considerados como descendencia.9Porque la palabra de la promesa es ésta: Por este tiempo vendré, y Sara tendrá un hijo.10Y no sólo esto, sino también al concebir Rebeca de uno, de Isaac nuestro padre11(porque no habiendo aún nacido, ni habiendo hecho algo bueno o malo, para que el propósito de Dios permaneciera conforme a la elección,12no por obras, sino por el que llama), le fue dicho: El mayor servirá al menor.13Como está escrito: A Jacob amé, mas a Esaú aborrecí.
La justicia de Dios
14¿Qué diremos entonces? ¿Acaso hay injusticia en la presencia de Dios? ¡De ninguna manera!15Ciertamente a Moisés dice: Tendré misericordia del que tendré misericordia, y me compadeceré del que me compadeceré.16Así, pues, no es del que quiere, ni del que corre, sino de Dios, que tiene misericordia.17Porque la Escritura dice de Faraón: Para esto te levanté: para mostrar en ti mi poder y para que mi nombre sea proclamado en toda la tierra.18Así, pues, del que quiere tiene misericordia, y al que quiere endurece.19Me dirás entonces: ¿Por qué, pues, inculpa? Porque ¿quién ha resistido a su voluntad?20En todo caso, oh hombre, ¿quién eres tú, para que alterques con Dios? ¿Dirá acaso lo moldeado al que lo moldea: Por qué me hiciste así?21¿O no tiene potestad el alfarero para hacer de la misma masa un vaso para honra y otro para deshonra?22¿Y qué, si Dios, queriendo mostrar la ira y hacer notorio su poder, soportó con mucha paciencia vasos de ira preparados para destrucción,23y para hacer notoria la riqueza de su gloria en vasos de misericordia que preparó para gloria;24a los cuales también llamó, a nosotros, no sólo de entre los judíos, sino también de entre los gentiles?25Como también en Oseas dice: Llamaré pueblo mío al que no era mi pueblo, Y amada, a la no amada.26Y sucederá que en el lugar donde les fue dicho: Vosotros no sois pueblo mío; Allí serán llamados hijos del Dios viviente.27También Isaías clama con respecto a Israel: Aunque el número de los hijos de Israel sea como la arena del mar, sólo el remanente será salvo.28Porque el Señor ejecutará su palabra con vigor y prontitud sobre la tierra.29Y como predijo Isaías: Si el Señor de los ejércitos no nos hubiera dejado descendencia, Como Sodoma habríamos llegado a ser, y seríamos semejantes a Gomorra.
El fin de la ley
30¿Qué, pues, diremos? Que los gentiles, que no perseguían justicia, alcanzaron justicia, la justicia que es por fe.31Pero Israel, que sigue la justicia de la ley, no la alcanzó en la ley.32¿Por qué? Porque no la seguían por fe sino como por obras. Tropezaron en la piedra de tropiezo,33como está escrito: He aquí pongo en Sión Piedra de tropiezo y roca de caída: El que crea en Él, no será avergonzado.

1I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,2That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.3For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:4Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;5Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.6Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.31But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.32Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;33As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
