1Digo, pues: ¿Ha desechado Dios a su pueblo? ¡De ninguna manera! Porque también yo soy israelita, de la descendencia de Abraham, de la tribu de Benjamín.2No ha desechado Dios a su pueblo que eligió de antemano. ¿O no sabéis qué dice la Escritura sobre Elías, cómo invoca a Dios contra Israel:3Señor, mataron a tus profetas, y destruyeron tus altares; Y yo he quedado solo, y buscan mi vida?4¿Pero qué le dice la divina respuesta? Me he reservado siete mil varones, quienes no doblaron rodilla delante de Baal.5Así, pues, aun en el tiempo presente ha surgido un remanente escogido por gracia.6Y si es por gracia, ya no es por obras; de otra manera, la gracia ya no es gracia.7¿Qué, pues? Lo que busca Israel no lo logró, pero los escogidos lo lograron; y los demás fueron endurecidos;8como está escrito: Dios les dio espíritu de estupor, ojos para no ver Y oídos para no oír, hasta el día de hoy.9Y David dice: Conviértase su banquete en lazo y en trampa, En tropezadero y en retribución.10Sean oscurecidos sus ojos para no ver, Y dóblales continuamente la espalda.
La riqueza de los gentiles
11Digo, pues: ¿Acaso tropezaron para caer? ¡De ninguna manera! Pero con su transgresión vino la salvación a los gentiles, para provocarlos a celos.12Y si su transgresión es riqueza del mundo, y su fracaso la riqueza de los gentiles, ¿cuánto más su plena restauración?13Porque a vosotros hablo, gentiles; por cuanto soy apóstol de los gentiles, honro mi ministerio;14por si de alguna manera puedo provocar a celos a los de mi carne, y salvar a algunos de ellos.15Porque si su exclusión es la reconciliación del mundo, ¿qué será su readmisión, sino vida entre los muertos?16Y si la primera porción es santa, también la masa; y si la raíz es santa, también las ramas.17Pero si algunas de las ramas fueron desgajadas, y tú, siendo olivo silvestre, fuiste injertado entre ellas, y llegaste a ser copartícipe de la raíz, de la rica savia del olivo;18no te jactes contra las ramas, y si te jactas, sabe que no sustentas tú a la raíz, sino la raíz a ti.19Dirás entonces: Las ramas fueron desgajadas para que yo fuera injertado.20Bien, por incredulidad fueron desgajadas, y tú por la fe estás firme. No seas arrogante, sino teme.21Porque si Dios no eximió a las ramas naturales, tampoco a ti te eximirá.22Mira, pues, la bondad y la severidad de Dios: severidad para con los que cayeron, pero bondad divina para contigo, si permaneces en la bondad, de otra manera tú también serás cortado.23Y aun ellos, si no continúan en incredulidad, serán injertados; porque poderoso es Dios para injertarlos otra vez.24Porque si tú fuiste cortado del que por naturaleza es olivo silvestre, y contra naturaleza fuiste injertado en el olivo cultivado, ¿cuánto más éstos, que son las ramas naturales, serán injertados en su propio olivo?
Misericordia para todos
25Porque no quiero hermanos que ignoréis este misterio, para que no seáis arrogantes acerca de vosotros mismos: que un endurecimiento parcial ha ocurrido a Israel, hasta que entre la plenitud de los gentiles.26Y así todo Israel será salvo, como está escrito: Vendrá de Sión el Libertador, Que quitará de Jacob la impiedad;27Y éste será mi pacto con ellos, Cuando quite sus pecados.28Ciertamente, en cuanto al evangelio, son enemigos por causa de vosotros, pero en cuanto a la elección, son muy amados por causa de los padres.29Porque irrevocables son los dones y el llamamiento de Dios.30Porque así como vosotros en un tiempo fuisteis desobedientes a Dios, pero ahora, en la desobediencia de ellos, habéis alcanzado misericordia;31así también ahora éstos fueron desobedientes, para que por la misericordia mostrada a vosotros, ellos también alcancen misericordia.32Porque a todos encerró Dios en desobediencia, para tener misericordia de todos.
Cántico a la sabiduría de Dios
33¡Oh profundidad de las riquezas, de la sabiduría y del conocimiento de Dios! ¡Cuán insondables son sus juicios e inescrutables sus caminos!34Pues ¿quién entendió la mente del Señor? ¿O quién fue su consejero?35¿O quién le dio a Él primero, para que le sea recompensado?36Porque de Él, por Él y en Él, son todas las cosas. ¡A Él sea la gloria por siempre! Amén.

1I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.2God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,3Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.4But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.5Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.6And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.7What then? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.12Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?13For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:14If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.15For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?16For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.17And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;18Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.19Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.20Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:21For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.22Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.23And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.24For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?25For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.26And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:27For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.28As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.29For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.30For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:31Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.32For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.33O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!34For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?35Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?36For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever.
