1Texto de la carta que el profeta Jeremías envió desde Jerusalem al resto de los ancianos y a los sacerdotes y profetas y al pueblo, deportados de Jerusalem a Babilonia por Nabucodonosor.2(Fue después que hubieron salido de Jerusalem el rey Jeconías, la reina madre, los eunucos, y los príncipes de Judá, con los artesanos y herreros de Jerusalem).3La envió por medio de Elasa ben Safán y de Gemarías ben Hilcías (a quienes Sedequías rey de Judá envió a Babilonia, a Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia), diciendo:4Así dice YHVH Sebaot, Dios de Israel, a todos los cautivos que Yo hice deportar de Jerusalem a Babilonia:5Edificad casas y habitadlas, plantad huertos y comed sus frutos.6Tomad mujeres y engendrad hijos e hijas, tomad mujeres para vuestros hijos, y dad vuestras hijas a maridos, para que críen hijos e hijas; multiplicaos allá, y no os dejéis disminuir.7Procurad la paz de la ciudad a la cual os hice transportar, y rogad por ella a YHVH, porque en la paz de ella tendréis vosotros paz.8Así dice YHVH Sebaot, Dios de Israel: No os engañen vuestros profetas y adivinos que viven entre vosotros, ni atendáis a los sueños que vosotros mismos soñáis.9Porque os profetizan engañosamente en mi Nombre, y Yo no los he enviado, dice YHVH.10Porque así dice YHVH: Cuando se hayan cumplido setenta años para con Babilonia, Yo os visitaré, y despertaré sobre vosotros mi buena palabra, para haceros volver a este lugar.11Porque Yo conozco mis designios sobre vosotros, dice YHVH: designios de bienestar y no de desgracia, de daros un porvenir y una esperanza.12Entonces me invocaréis, y vendréis y oraréis a mí, y Yo os escucharé.13Me buscaréis y me hallaréis, porque me buscaréis con todo vuestro corazón.14Sí, Yo seré hallado por vosotros, dice YHVH, y haré volver vuestra cautividad, y os reuniré de todas las naciones y de todos los lugares adonde os había arrojado, dice YHVH; y os haré volver al lugar de donde hice que os llevaran en cautividad.15Si vosotros habéis dicho: YHVH nos ha levantado profetas en Babilonia,16Así dice YHVH acerca del rey que está sentado sobre el trono de David, y de todo el pueblo que mora en esta ciudad: de vuestros hermanos que no salieron con vosotros en cautiverio.17Así dice YHVH Sebaot: He aquí Yo envío contra ellos la espada, el hambre y la peste, y los pondré como los higos malos, que de tan malos no se pueden comer.18Los perseguiré con la espada, el hambre y la peste, y los convertiré en objeto de horror para todos los reinos de la tierra, en maldición, espanto, burla y afrenta entre todas las naciones donde los habré arrojado;19por cuanto no oyeron mis palabras, dice YHVH, que les envié por mis siervos los profetas, madrugando y sin cesar, pero no quisisteis escuchar, dice YHVH.20¡Escuchad pues la palabra de YHVH, vosotros todos los expatriados que eché de Jerusalem a Babilonia!21así dice YHVH Sebaot, Dios de Israel, acerca de Acab ben Colaías y de Sedequías ben Maasías, que os profetizan mentiras en mi Nombre: He aquí Yo los entrego en mano de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, quien los matará ante vuestros ojos,22y dará origen a una maldición que se correrá entre los cautivos de Judá que están en Babilonia, que dirá: ¡YHVH haga contigo como con Acab y Sedequías, a quienes el rey de Babilonia asó al fuego!23Porque hicieron infamia en Israel, adulteraron con la mujer del prójimo, y dijeron palabras falsas en mi Nombre, sin que Yo los mandara. Lo sé y lo atestiguo, dice YHVH.24Y a Semaías de Nehelam hablarás, diciendo:25Así habla YHVH Sebaot, Dios de Israel, diciendo: Porque has enviado cartas en tu propio nombre a todo el pueblo que está en Jerusalem, y al sacerdote Sofonías ben Maasías, y a todos los sacerdotes, diciendo:26YHVH te ha nombrado sucesor del sacerdote Joiada, como responsable de la Casa de YHVH, para que todo el que se desmande y se haga pasar por profeta, lo lleves al calabozo y lo pongas en el cepo.27¿Por qué pues, no has reprendido ahora a Jeremías de Anatot, que se hace pasar por profeta?28Pues nos ha enviado una carta a Babilonia diciendo: El cautiverio será largo. Construíos casas, y morad en ellas, y plantad huertos y comed sus frutos.29Pero el sacerdote Sofonías había leído esta carta a oídos del profeta Jeremías,30y la palabra de YHVH llegó a Jeremías, diciendo:31Envía a decir a todos los cautivos: Así dice YHVH acerca de Semaías de Nehelam: Semaías os ha profetizado sin Yo haberlo enviado, induciéndoos a una falsa confianza.32Por tanto, así dice YHVH: Yo castigaré a Semaías de Nehelam y a su descendencia: No tendrá varón que more en medio de este pueblo, ni verá el bien que Yo haré a mi pueblo, dice YHVH; porque ha proferido palabras de rebelión contra YHVH.

1Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;2(After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)3By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,4Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;5Build ye houses, and dwell in them ; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;6Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.7And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.8For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.9For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.10For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.12Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.13And ye shall seek me, and find me , when ye shall search for me with all your heart.14And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.15Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;16Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;17Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.18And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:19Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them ; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.20Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:21Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;22And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;23Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.24Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,25Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,26The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.27Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?28For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them ; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.29And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.30Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,31Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:32Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.
